Key takeaways
- Night’s Sacred Ground is a subarea of Nokron, Eternal City, not the whole of Nokron or the Ancestral Woods.
- Its access route begins at Ancestral Woods, where you jump across rooftops and ruined arches rather than following a normal road.
- The Mimic Tear Ashes require one Stonesword Key and are found inside the chapel-like building.
- The Fingerslayer Blade chest is progression-locked You must have spoken to Ranni at Ranni’s Rise and selected the option to serve her before the chest can be opened.
- There is no boss fight in Night’s Sacred Ground itself The Mimic Tear boss belongs to the wider Nokron route and is encountered before the Ancestral Woods approach.
- The safest practical route is to reach the Site of Grace first, then explore back through the chapel and rooftops, rather than trying to clear every enemy while making the initial descent.
Note
Base game guide. This article covers Night’s Sacred Ground as a district within Nokron, Eternal City. It does not treat the whole of Nokron, Ancestral Woods, Siofra River, or the Mimic Tear boss arena as part of Night’s Sacred Ground, although those places form its approach and immediate surroundings.
Overview
Night’s Sacred Ground is a compact but unusually important district in Nokron, Eternal City, one of the underground areas beneath Limgrave. It is reached from the Ancestral Woods Site of Grace by descending across a chain of rooftops and ruined buildings. The district consists of an elevated approach, a chapel-like structure, a lower street or courtyard, and the chamber beneath the enormous corpse seated on a throne-like chair.
Despite its modest size, Night’s Sacred Ground contains two of Nokron’s most valuable rewards:
The area also contains the Black Whetblade, a Nox Flowing Hammer, a Larval Tear, a Celestial Dew, and several smaller pickups. Its enemies are mainly Silver Tears and Nox-related enemies, with a Mimic Tear that can transform into a large Troll-like foe.
The district is not a traditional legacy dungeon. There is no area boss and no separate dungeon map. Its difficulty comes from vertical navigation, ambushes, transforming enemies, and the threat of the giant metal ball inside the chapel.
---
Included within Night’s Sacred Ground
The area is described as a district of Nokron reached by traversing rooftops south of Ancestral Woods. Its principal structure can be entered through a window after crossing the top of a large gate.
Nearby but separate areas
The following places are connected to Night’s Sacred Ground but should not be counted as part of it:
Nokron’s route only becomes available after Starscourge Radahn is defeated and a star creates the crater near Fort Haight in Limgrave.
---
Night’s Sacred Ground is vertically arranged. It is not a flat street that can be entered from a conventional gate.
The approach begins high above the district. From Ancestral Woods, the player drops onto a lower roof and follows narrow ledges, broken arches and building tops. Several jumps are required, and some apparently dead-end roofs lead to small loot pickups rather than the main route.
The chapel-like structure is the visual centre of the upper section. It has an open interior with an altar, a barred or sealed side room, and a large metal ball trap. Leaving the chapel leads down to the named Site of Grace and the lower street.
The lowest part of the district is more open. Silver Tears and Mimic Tears occupy the road and courtyard, while the enormous corpse seated on the chair marks the final treasure chamber. The Fingerslayer Blade is in the room beneath this figure.
Nearby but separate areas
| Name | Details |
|---|---|
| Ancestral Woods | the approach area and starting point for the rooftop descent. |
| Mimic Tear arena | the earlier Nokron boss arena. |
| Nokron, Eternal City | the wider underground city containing several districts and landmarks. |
| Hallowhorn Grounds | a separate landmark in Nokron. |
| Siofra Aqueduct | a separate route leading towards the Valiant Gargoyle encounter. |
| Siofra River | the broader underground region containing Nokron and other subterranean areas. |

The Sending Gate near the giant corpse returns the player to the Ancestral Woods area, making it a useful exit after collecting the Fingerslayer Blade.

Requirements for reaching the area
To reach Night’s Sacred Ground through the normal progression route, you need to:
The area itself does not require a Stonesword Key for entry. The key is only required for the sealed room containing the Mimic Tear Ashes.
Requirements for reaching the area: steps
- 01Defeat Starscourge Radahn.
- 02Enter Nokron through the crater created in southern Limgrave.
- 03Progress through Nokron and defeat the Mimic Tear boss.
- 04Cross into Ancestral Woods.
- 05Find the Ancestral Woods Site of Grace.
- 06Descend over the rooftops into Night’s Sacred Ground.
Recommended route
A useful safety rule is to activate the Site of Grace immediately after leaving the chapel. If you die on the lower route, you will not need to repeat the rooftop section.
---
Night’s Sacred Ground has no inhabitants, merchants, smiths or conventional businesses. Its buildings are ruins and religious or ceremonial structures rather than functioning facilities.
Recommended route: steps
- 01From Ancestral Woods, move towards the edge overlooking the ruined buildings.
- 02Drop onto the broad roof below rather than attempting to jump directly to the distant chapel.
- 03Follow the roofs and ledges, checking side platforms for loot.
- 04Cross the broken arch and enter the chapel through the open window.
- 05Collect the Black Whetblade near the altar.
- 06Use a Stonesword Key at the imp seal if you want the Mimic Tear Ashes.
- 07Deal with or avoid the rolling metal ball.
- 08Leave through the main exit and activate the Night’s Sacred Ground Site of Grace.
- 09Search the lower street for the remaining pickups.
- 10Open the chest beneath the giant seated corpse if the Ranni quest condition has been met.
- 11Use the nearby Sending Gate to return towards Ancestral Woods.
Night’s Sacred Ground Site of Grace
The Site of Grace is found at the lowest level of the district, after leaving the chapel-like building. It provides:
It is also the most useful staging point for collecting the Fingerslayer Blade.
Sending Gate
A Sending Gate stands near the large corpse and the Fingerslayer Blade chamber. It transports the player back to the Ancestral Woods area. This is not a shop or permanent transport hub, and it should not be confused with the ordinary fast-travel function of the Site of Grace.
Services directory
---
There are no friendly NPCs permanently residing in Night’s Sacred Ground.
The area is associated with the Nox and with the fallen civilisation of the Eternal Cities. Its hostile inhabitants include Nox Swordstresses and Nox Nightmaidens, while the Silver Tears appear to be part of the artificial or transformed life associated with Nokron.
Services directory
| Name | Details |
|---|---|
| Night’s Sacred Ground Site of Grace | checkpoint and fast travel |
| Sending Gate | return route towards Ancestral Woods |
| Stonesword Key seal | optional access mechanism, not a service facility |
Named characters connected to the area
Ranni the Witch
Ranni does not appear in Night’s Sacred Ground, but the district is directly tied to her questline. After meeting her at Ranni’s Rise and choosing to serve her, the player can open the Fingerslayer Blade chest. The blade is then returned to Ranni in exchange for the Carian Inverted Statue.
Blaidd the Half-Wolf
Blaidd is associated with the wider Nokron and Ranni progression, but he is not a resident or encounter within Night’s Sacred Ground itself.
Faction directory
The Nox connection is expressed through the enemies, architecture and loot rather than through a local NPC dialogue scene.

Enemy directory
These enemies are listed for Night’s Sacred Ground by the area’s location data.
Enemy directory
Silver Tears and Mimic Tears
The lower street is populated by Silver Tears. Some apparently inert or harmless forms can transform when approached or attacked. A Mimic Tear in the open area can take the form of a much larger Troll-like enemy, making it the most dangerous individual ambush in the district.
Do not assume that every motionless blob is scenery. If you are collecting items in the lower courtyard, keep enough distance to react to a transformation.
Nox Swordstress and Nox Nightmaiden
The Nox enemies use fast, sweeping attacks and can punish players who fight close to ledges or narrow rooftops. On the upper route, it is often safer to lure one enemy at a time rather than fighting in the middle of a jump sequence.
Their presence also distinguishes Night’s Sacred Ground from the more purely spectral or animal-filled parts of Nokron.
Rolling metal ball
Inside the chapel is a large metal ball that rolls towards the player. The room is designed as a trap, and the ball can crush the player if they hesitate in the centre of the passage.
The safest response is to move towards a doorway or side opening so that the ball collides with the structure. Once it is immobilised, attack it to destroy it. A killable metal ball of this type rewards a Larval Tear, according to the area walkthrough sources.
Environmental hazards
---
The area has a relatively high concentration of important rewards for its size.
Major rewards
The area’s main location listing records the Black Whetblade, Mimic Tear Ashes, Fingerslayer Blade, Celestial Dew, Smithing Stone [3], Nox Flowing Hammer, Golden Rune [7], Soft Cotton, Rejuvenating Boluses, Rune Arc and Silver Tear Husk among its notable contents.
Note on the Great Ghost Glovewort
Some walkthroughs describe a Great Ghost Glovewort in the vicinity of the Fingerslayer Blade route. Because the item is sometimes grouped with nearby Nokron pickups rather than consistently listed under the district heading, treat it as part of the immediate Night’s Sacred Ground collection route, but not as evidence that the whole surrounding Nokron district belongs to this location.
Major rewards
| Item | Location | Function or significance |
|---|---|---|
| Black Whetblade | Chapel, near the altar | Unlocks additional affinity options when applying Ashes of War |
| Mimic Tear Ashes | Sealed chapel room | Spirit Ash summon; requires a Stonesword Key |
| Fingerslayer Blade | Chest beneath the giant seated corpse | Key item for Ranni’s quest |
| Larval Tear | Destroyed rolling metal ball | Used for rebirth and attribute respec |
| Nox Flowing Hammer | Upper or chapel section | Weapon pickup |
| Celestial Dew | Corpse in the district | Used at the Church of Vows for absolution |
| Great Ghost Glovewort | Near the Fingerslayer Blade route | Upgrades renowned Spirit Ashes |
| Smithing Stone [3] | Rooftop or district pickup | Weapon upgrade material |
| Golden Rune [7] | Lower or rooftop route | Consumable rune item |
| Soft Cotton | Ground pickup | Consumable item |
| Rejuvenating Boluses | Ground pickup | Removes Death blight build-up |
| Rune Arc | Ground pickup | Activates a Great Rune |
| Silver Tear Husk | Multiple material pickups | Crafting material |

Lower street and corpse route
Not every minor pickup is equally easy to distinguish from the wider Nokron route in secondary location databases. The directory above therefore separates confidently attributed Night’s Sacred Ground rewards from nearby Nokron loot rather than claiming unsupported precision for every corpse.

Chapel-like building
1. Reach Ancestral Woods
After entering Nokron and defeating the Mimic Tear boss, continue into Ancestral Woods. Activate the Ancestral Woods Site of Grace before beginning the descent. The route to Night’s Sacred Ground starts from the high ground near the edge of the ruins.
2. Descend across the rooftops
Look for the lower roof beneath the Ancestral Woods position. Drop carefully and follow the connected roofs and ledges. The route is deliberately irregular, so use the architecture as a guide:
3. Enter the chapel
The chapel can be entered through a window after crossing the upper structure. Once inside, search the altar area for the Black Whetblade.
The chapel is the most important optional exploration point because it contains the sealed room for the Mimic Tear Ashes. You do not need to complete the lower street first.
4. Collect the Mimic Tear Ashes
Use one Stonesword Key on the imp seal. Enter the room and open the chest to obtain the Mimic Tear Ashes. The Ashes summon a copy of the player rather than a conventional fixed creature. The item is one of the district’s defining rewards and is consistently identified as being behind the Stonesword Key door.
5. Deal with the rolling ball
Proceed carefully through the chapel. When the large metal ball begins rolling, sprint towards the exit or a side doorway so that it cannot pin you in the middle of the room.
After it becomes stuck, destroy it for the Larval Tear. This reward is useful even if you have no immediate plans to respec, because Larval Tears are limited consumables rather than an infinitely renewable resource.
6. Activate the Site of Grace
Leave the chapel and descend to the lower level. Activate Night’s Sacred Ground Site of Grace before attempting the courtyard.
This grace is positioned after the chapel and before the long Silver Tear route, making it the natural division between the optional upper loot and the quest-critical lower section.
7. Cross the Silver Tear street
The lower route contains several Silver Tears and Mimic Tears. You can fight them for runes and materials, or sprint through if your priority is the Fingerslayer Blade.
The main caution is the large transforming Mimic Tear. Keep the fight away from walls and stairs if possible. Ranged characters can provoke the transformation from a distance, while melee characters should avoid committing to long attacks before confirming the enemy’s form.
8. Open the Fingerslayer Blade chest
At the far end of the route, locate the chamber beneath the enormous seated corpse. The chest contains the Fingerslayer Blade, the hidden treasure of Nokron.
If the chest says that you are not destined to open it, return to Ranni’s Rise and speak to Ranni. You must have selected the dialogue option to serve her. The chest is progression-locked rather than permanently missable.
9. Return the blade to Ranni
Take the Fingerslayer Blade back to Ranni. She rewards you with the Carian Inverted Statue, which opens the next stage of the Carian Study Hall and contributes to the progression of her questline.
---
Night’s Sacred Ground has one major progression state: the Fingerslayer Blade chest changes according to the player’s progress with Ranni.
After serving Ranni
The blade is a quest item rather than an ordinary weapon. Its description identifies it as the hidden treasure of the Eternal City and as proof of the Nox’s treason against the Greater Will.
Missability and locking notes
The principal missability concern is not permanent loss but attempting the chest before the correct quest state. If it remains locked, continue Ranni’s dialogue at Ranni’s Rise rather than repeatedly returning to Nokron.
There is no known local merchant, NPC quest giver or optional boss in Night’s Sacred Ground whose availability changes through ordinary area reloads. The important progression change is the Ranni-related chest.
---
Night’s Sacred Ground is presented as part of the ruined Eternal City civilisation. The area’s architecture, Nox enemies, artificial Silver Tears and the corpse beneath the throne all point towards a place of ritual importance rather than an ordinary residential district.
The Fingerslayer Blade is the clearest lore object in the area. Its description says it was born from a corpse and represents the high treason committed by the Eternal City. Its intended use against the Greater Will’s vassals explains why Ranni seeks it and why the chest is gated behind her quest progression.
The giant corpse is not presented as a normal boss or interactable NPC. It functions as a visual and ceremonial landmark above the treasure chamber. The player is encouraged to read the chamber, corpse and blade together: this is a hidden vault beneath the remains of a fallen underground civilisation.
The Silver Tears further reinforce the area’s theme of imitation and artificial life. The player encounters enemies that look like inert material, then reshape themselves into humanoid or larger forms. This makes the district’s environmental storytelling mechanical as well as visual.

Is Night’s Sacred Ground the same as Nokron?
No. Night’s Sacred Ground is a named district within Nokron, Eternal City. Nokron also includes the Mimic Tear area, Ancestral Woods, Hallowhorn Grounds and routes towards the Siofra Aqueduct.
Is there a boss in Night’s Sacred Ground?
No. The area has dangerous enemies, including a Troll-form Mimic Tear, but no named boss encounter. The Mimic Tear boss belongs to the earlier Nokron route.
Why can’t I open the chest?
You have not reached the required stage of Ranni’s quest. Speak to Ranni at Ranni’s Rise and choose to serve her. The Fingerslayer Blade chest is explicitly locked until that progression state is met.
Do I need a Stonesword Key to enter the area?
No. You need a Stonesword Key only for the sealed room containing the Mimic Tear Ashes.
Can I skip the enemies?
Yes. Most enemies can be bypassed, especially on the lower route. However, the transforming Mimic Tear can block the approach to the final chamber, so be prepared to dodge, retreat or fight.
What is the most important item here?
For general exploration, the Mimic Tear Ashes are the most valuable optional reward. For progression, the Fingerslayer Blade is essential to Ranni’s questline.
