Introduction

Perfumer’s Grotto is a small optional cave dungeon in the Altus Plateau, hidden beside the road leading towards the Capital Outskirts. It is occupied by Perfumers and Miranda plants, and culminates in a two-enemy boss encounter against Omenkiller and Miranda the Blighted Bloom. Its most useful reward is the Great Omenkiller Cleaver, while its chests and corpses provide perfume-making materials, Living Jar Shards and other crafting supplies.

The cave is also notable because its deepest chamber visually overlaps with the nearby Altus Tunnel. This is a visual and environmental connection rather than a normal shortcut: the two dungeons are separate areas with separate entrances, Site of Grace locations and progression. Do not mistake the Withered Astel cavern seen from the grotto for an undiscovered branch of the same dungeon.

Location and boundaries

Perfumer’s Grotto lies in the southern part of the Altus Plateau, near the route from Altus Highway Junction towards the Capital Outskirts. The entrance is not on the main road itself. Instead, follow the lower path beside the large stairway leading towards the capital, then look for a narrow recess in the cliff. A large poison flower blocks the cave mouth.

The safest way to identify the location is to use the surrounding road and cliff as landmarks:

The area immediately outside the entrance is not part of the dungeon proper. It belongs to the open Altus Plateau and may contain other roaming wildlife and hazards. In particular, a Runebear can make the approach dangerous, so travelling on Torrent and dismounting only at the entrance is often the simplest option.

Included subareas

The grotto is compact, but it has several recognisable sections:

The Altus Tunnel is a neighbouring but separate dungeon. Its chambers can be seen from the grotto’s deep cavern, and the two areas create the impression that they should connect. They do not provide a conventional back-and-forth route. The items and encounters visible on the opposite side belong to Altus Tunnel, not to Perfumer’s Grotto.

Access and recommended preparation

There is no known quest, key item or Stonesword Key requirement for entering Perfumer’s Grotto. The main requirement is reaching the Altus Plateau by any available route.

The dungeon’s most important hazards are poison, ranged perfume attacks and cramped combat spaces. Consider bringing:

The grotto contains a Site of Grace near the entrance. A summoning pool is also found deeper in the dungeon near the route towards the boss, making it convenient for co-operative play.

Geography and environmental design

Perfumer’s Grotto is a natural cave that has been adapted into a Perfumer refuge. Its interior is dominated by moss, exposed roots, hanging rock formations and Miranda growths. The plants are not merely decorative. Miranda Sprouts and larger flowers occupy the main routes and make the cave’s open spaces hazardous.

The deeper section opens into a dramatic cavern where a Withered Astel hangs over a large root. This Astel is not the dungeon’s named boss and does not replace the final encounter. It is a powerful enemy occupying a side section of the grotto’s wider cave environment. The chamber also provides the visual sightline towards the separate Altus Tunnel.

Residents and enemies

Perfumer’s Grotto has no friendly NPCs, merchants or quest characters. Its inhabitants are hostile Perfumers and the Miranda plant life they cultivate or shelter among.

Named and notable enemies

The regular Perfumers can use perfume-based attacks, including explosive or damaging clouds. They are particularly troublesome when allowed to attack from behind Miranda plants or from a higher ledge. Taking them out before clearing the flowers usually makes the rooms much safer.

The Withered Astel is best treated as a separate elite encounter. It can attack across the cavern and may be difficult to reach safely in melee because of the surrounding roots and drops. Ranged attacks are useful, although patient melee players can also work around the terrain. The area’s layout makes it possible to explore the chamber without treating the Astel as the final boss.

Loot and collectible directory

The following named rewards and collectible types are associated with the grotto in the base game. Some materials may appear as fixed pickups, while others can be obtained from corpses or enemy drops.

Fixed and notable loot

The two chests in the lower plant-filled section contain a Perfume Bottle and Living Jar Shard ×10. Another Living Jar Shard pickup is found earlier in the dungeon. The root-filled cavern contains Arteria Leaf ×3, while Miranda Powder, Warming Stone and Golden Rune [5] can be found on corpses or in the later sections before the boss.

Crafting materials and enemy drops

The grotto is a useful place to gather materials connected with poison and perfume crafting. Reported dungeon materials include:

Perfumers may also drop pieces of Perfumer equipment, although these are not guaranteed rewards. In particular, the Perfumer’s Shield is a rare enemy drop rather than a fixed chest reward. Treat equipment farming as random rather than part of the dungeon’s guaranteed treasure.

Walkthrough

1. Activate the Site of Grace

Enter past the giant poison flower and rest at the Perfumer’s Grotto Site of Grace. The opening tunnel is relatively safe, but the first proper chamber contains Perfumers and plant enemies.

2. Clear the first Perfumer chamber

Move carefully into the wider room. One Perfumer can be approached from behind, allowing a critical attack or a quick opening strike. Avoid standing in the middle of the room while multiple enemies are active, since perfume clouds and plant attacks can overlap.

After clearing the room, search the lower area and nearby corpses before moving on. This is where the first Living Jar Shard reward can be collected.

3. Search the lower chamber

The next chamber contains a drop to a lower plant-filled area. A Perfumer stands among Miranda enemies. Drop down only after checking the positions of the enemies below, then prioritise the Perfumer so that its ranged attacks do not continue while you fight the plants.

Search beside the large root and open both chests. These provide:

The Perfume Bottle is especially useful for characters developing a perfume-based crafting setup, since it expands the capacity for storing perfume mixtures.

4. Enter the large root cavern

Continue through the tunnel until it opens into the large cavern. Be alert for the Withered Astel. It may attack while you are navigating the roots, and the terrain can make retreat awkward.

Collect the Arteria Leaf ×3 from the root area, then inspect the visible platforms and corpses. Some apparent routes and items across the chasm belong to the Altus Tunnel section seen through the cavern. They are not reached by simply jumping from the grotto side.

5. Prepare at the summoning pool

Continue towards the boss route and activate the summoning pool if you intend to summon another player. Rest at the Site of Grace first if you need to recover flasks or change equipment.

Before entering the fog, equip poison resistance or curing items and consider using a Spirit Ash. The boss arena permits summons, and separating the two enemies greatly reduces the pressure of the encounter.

6. Defeat Omenkiller and Miranda the Blighted Bloom

The boss fight combines an aggressive humanoid enemy with a stationary Miranda flower.

Omenkiller uses quick cleaver attacks, jumping strikes and short-range fire attacks. Its movement makes it the immediate threat. Keep moving around the arena and avoid being trapped against the walls.

Miranda the Blighted Bloom remains largely stationary but uses poison clouds and area attacks. Its attacks can punish players who focus entirely on Omenkiller without watching the arena.

Alternatively, characters with strong ranged damage can kill Miranda first while a summon holds Omenkiller’s attention. The best order depends on your build, but fighting both enemies in the centre of the room is usually less safe than drawing one away from the other.

Defeating the encounter awards the Great Omenkiller Cleaver and the usual boss runes. The Omenkiller’s listed reward for this Altus Plateau encounter is the cleaver, while the Omenkiller found elsewhere in the game has different rewards.

6. Defeat Omenkiller and Miranda the Blighted Bloom: A practical order is

  1. 01
    Distract or separate Omenkiller.
  2. 02
Attack Omenkiller during its recovery animations.
  3. 03
Keep Miranda’s position in view while fighting.
  4. 04
Once Omenkiller is defeated, circle Miranda and punish it between its area attacks.

Boss strategy

Omenkiller

Omenkiller is vulnerable to the usual stagger tactics, although its mobility makes some slow weapons difficult to use safely. Jumping heavy attacks, guard counters and well-timed charged attacks can interrupt it. Do not greedily attack after its fire animation begins. Move out of the burning area first, then re-engage.

If using a summon, let the summon draw Omenkiller away from Miranda. This prevents the boss from repeatedly crossing the arena while you attempt to attack the flower.

Miranda the Blighted Bloom

Miranda cannot chase the player like Omenkiller, but its area attacks cover a significant part of the arena. Watch for the poison cloud and magical light attacks, then approach during the recovery period.

Fire damage is a natural choice against plant enemies, but a build without fire remains perfectly viable. The main requirement is patience: attack between area effects rather than standing in the flower’s damaging zones.

Nearby connections

Perfumer’s Grotto is close to several important Altus Plateau routes:

The connection with Altus Tunnel is the source of most navigation confusion. The two dungeons are geographically adjacent and share visual space, but their entrances and internal routes should be treated separately. If you are trying to reach the blue-lit mine chambers or a platform containing an item visible across the cavern, leave the grotto and locate the Altus Tunnel entrance elsewhere on the plateau.
