Key takeaways
- Renna’s Rise is a small, self-contained tower, not the whole Three Sisters area.
- It becomes accessible after advancing Ranni’s questline, normally by giving Ranni the Fingerslayer Blade from Nokron.
- The tower contains the Snow Witch Hat, Snow Witch Robe and Snow Witch Skirt in a chest on an upper floor. The set has no separate glove piece.
- A waygate at the top sends the player to Ainsel River Main, a separate underground area.
- The waygate is an important route into the northern section of Ainsel River and advances Ranni’s quest through the Miniature Ranni encounter.
- Renna’s Rise has no shop, resident NPC, regular dungeon boss or independent questline of its own.
About this guide
Base game location guide. Major quest spoilers for Ranni’s questline.
Overview
Renna’s Rise is the northernmost of the three towers in the Three Sisters sub-region of northern Liurnia of the Lakes. It stands beyond Caria Manor, north-east of Ranni’s Rise, and is initially sealed. Unlike Ranni’s Rise, it is not a major residence or NPC hub. Its importance is almost entirely tied to two rewards: the Snow Witch Set and a waygate to Ainsel River Main.
The tower is named for Renna, the identity Ranni uses when she first meets the Tarnished at the Church of Elleh. It should not be confused with Ranni’s Rise, where Ranni, Blaidd, Seluvis and Iji gather during the early stages of Ranni’s quest. The two are separate locations with different entrances, rewards and progression states.
Boundaries and related locations
Renna’s Rise should be treated as the tower itself and its immediate entrance area. It does not include the neighbouring towers or the wider garden around them.
The presence of the waygate does not make Ainsel River Main part of Renna’s Rise. It is a separate area with its own enemies, Site of Grace, items and quest encounters. The same applies to Nokstella, the Lake of Rot and the areas beyond them. Ainsel River Main can also be reached by another route involving Deeproot Depths, so the waygate is a major route rather than the only possible connection.
Reaching Renna’s Rise
1. Reach the Three Sisters
Complete or pass through Caria Manor in north-western Liurnia. The route ends at the Royal Moongazing Grounds, after the fight with Royal Knight Loretta. From there, the Three Sisters area opens out to the south.
At this stage, Ranni’s Rise and Seluvis’s Rise are accessible, but Renna’s Rise remains sealed. The tower’s inaccessible state is deliberate rather than a missing key or puzzle.
2. Begin Ranni’s quest
Go to Ranni’s Rise and speak with Ranni at the top. Depending on the player’s progression, the exact dialogue and the point at which the quest becomes available can vary. Ranni’s quest is also connected to earlier events involving Sorcerer Rogier and Starscourge Radahn, but those variations do not change Renna’s eventual function.
You must progress through the quest until Ranni receives the Fingerslayer Blade.
3. Obtain the Fingerslayer Blade
The Fingerslayer Blade is found in Nokron, Eternal City, in the Night’s Sacred Ground section. Nokron becomes accessible after defeating Starscourge Radahn and entering the crater south of Mistwood.
Return to Ranni’s Rise and give the blade to Ranni. In return, Ranni gives the Carian Inverted Statue. After the relevant dialogue and area reload, the seal on Renna’s Rise is removed. The Carian Inverted Statue itself is used at the Carian Study Hall and is not a Renna’s Rise item.
4. Enter the tower
Travel to Renna’s Rise. The entrance is now open. The tower is compact and contains no labyrinthine side route. Climb through the interior and continue upwards.
Walkthrough
Lower entrance
The entrance chamber is a simple stone interior. There is no merchant, Site of Grace, summon sign or quest-giving character here. The tower is safe in the usual sense that it contains no ordinary enemy patrols or dungeon boss.
The most important navigation detail is that the tower has two separate rewards at different heights:
Snow Witch Set
Climb the ladder inside the tower. When you reach the upper level, turn around rather than immediately continuing outside towards the waygate. A chest is positioned on the upper floor, near the ladder route. Open it to obtain the three pieces of the Snow Witch Set.
The Snow Witch Set is light armour associated with Ranni’s snow-witch identity. The hat, robe and skirt are fixed rewards from the chest, not random drops. The chest is one of the main reasons to return to the tower after unlocking it.
Waygate to Ainsel River Main
Continue to the highest accessible part of the tower. The waygate is positioned at the top. Interact with it to teleport to Ainsel River Main. This is a one-way area transition rather than a conventional lift or doorway.
The player arrives beside a coffin containing the Miniature Ranni item. From there, follow the route to the nearby Site of Grace and rest. The dialogue option to speak with Miniature Ranni appears at the Site of Grace. Selecting it repeatedly advances Ranni’s quest and eventually begins the search for the Baleful Shadow.
Recommended order
There is no requirement to defeat a boss inside Renna’s Rise before using the portal.
Lower entrance
- 01The Snow Witch Set is obtained from a chest on an upper floor.
- 02The waygate is found at the top of the tower.
Snow Witch Set: The set includes

|---|---|---|
| Snow Witch Hat | Chest in Renna’s Rise | Head armour |
| Snow Witch Robe | Chest in Renna’s Rise | Chest armour |
| Snow Witch Skirt | Chest in Renna’s Rise | Leg armour |
| Snow Witch Gloves | Not present | The set has no glove piece |
Recommended order: For a first visit, use this order
- 01Enter Renna’s Rise after the seal opens.
- 02Climb to the upper floor.
- 03Turn back and loot the chest containing the Snow Witch Set.
- 04Continue to the top.
- 05Activate the waygate.
- 06Pick up Miniature Ranni in Ainsel River Main.
- 07Rest at the nearby Site of Grace.
- 08Choose Talk to Miniature Ranni repeatedly until the dialogue is exhausted.
Items and collectibles directory
Fixed items
The first three items are physically located in Renna’s Rise. Miniature Ranni is not. It is listed here because it is the first important collectible reached by the tower’s waygate and is the practical continuation of the area’s quest route.
Quest-related items associated with the unlock
These items are connected to Renna’s Rise’s progression but are found elsewhere:
The Cursemark of Death is relevant to the wider questline, but it is not required to enter Renna’s Rise in the normal sequence. The key progression event for opening the tower is giving Ranni the Fingerslayer Blade and advancing the resulting dialogue. The tower’s waygate then takes the player into the next underground stage of the quest.
Residents, enemies and services
Residents and visitors
Renna’s Rise contains no permanent resident NPC. Ranni is not found there during the ordinary quest sequence. She occupies Ranni’s Rise, the separate central tower.
Named characters connected with the location are present elsewhere:
Enemies and bosses
There are no confirmed regular enemy groups or boss encounters inside Renna’s Rise. The tower is a traversal and quest-transition location rather than a combat dungeon.
The wider Three Sisters region contains dangerous encounters, including the Glintstone Dragon Adula, but that dragon is not an enemy inside Renna’s Rise. It should not be included in the tower’s enemy directory. Ranni’s Rise is also guarded by wolves in some progression states, but those encounters belong to the neighbouring tower area, not Renna’s Rise.
Services
Its useful functions are limited to fixed loot and transport to Ainsel River Main.
Progression changes
Before Ranni’s quest advances
The tower is sealed. Approaching it too early does not provide an alternative key or environmental puzzle that can be solved by ordinary exploration.
After giving Ranni the Fingerslayer Blade
Renna’s Rise opens. The Snow Witch Set becomes available, and the waygate can be used. This is the principal progression change associated with the location.
After travelling through the waygate
Ainsel River Main becomes available as a fast-travel destination once its Site of Grace is activated. The player can then obtain Miniature Ranni and continue the underground portion of Ranni’s quest.
Later visits
After the waygate has been used, Renna’s Rise remains useful as a direct route to Ainsel River Main. There is no separate boss rematch, shop stock change or rotating encounter associated with returning to the tower.
Practical checklist
Before leaving the area, confirm that you have:
Common mistakes
“I am at Ranni’s Rise, but the armour is not here”
The Snow Witch Set is in Renna’s Rise, the northern tower. Ranni’s Rise is the central tower where Ranni is encountered. The names are similar, but the locations are not interchangeable.
“Renna’s Rise is still sealed”
Advance Ranni’s quest until you have returned the Fingerslayer Blade to her. Exhaust the relevant dialogue, then reload the area or travel away and return if the seal has not visibly updated.
“The portal took me somewhere new, so is that still Renna’s Rise?”
No. The portal leads to Ainsel River Main, a separate underground area. The transition is intentionally abrupt, but the destination has its own map section, enemies, Site of Grace and quest progression.
“I found the tower but there is no boss”
That is expected. Renna’s Rise is not a combat dungeon. Its content is the Snow Witch Set and the waygate.
Lore and significance
Renna’s Rise reflects Ranni’s association with snow, witchcraft and the cold regions connected to her past. The Snow Witch Set found there is a direct visual and thematic link to the identity Ranni adopts when first approaching the Tarnished as “Renna”. The tower therefore functions less as a conventional residence and more as a concealed departure point for Ranni’s deeper plans.
Its waygate also reinforces the structure of Ranni’s quest. The player moves from the Carian stronghold in Liurnia to Nokron, then from Renna’s Rise into the northern underground waterways and eternal cities. The tower is the hinge between the surface quest hub and the Ainsel River section. The route ultimately contributes to the questline that can unlock the Age of the Stars ending.
