Note
Base game guide. This page covers Sainted Hero’s Grave itself, its entrance guardian and the immediately associated exterior approach in the Altus Plateau. It does not merge the dungeon with nearby Stormcaller Church, Leyndell, Royal Capital, Rampartside Path or other Hero’s Graves.
Overview
Sainted Hero’s Grave is an optional Hero’s Grave dungeon in the Altus Plateau, west of Leyndell, Royal Capital. It is built around a recurring environmental puzzle: several enemies are shrouded in darkness and cannot be harmed normally until they are drawn into circles of light cast by dungeon statues. The grave combines narrow corridors, lift-blades, undead ambushes, Royal Revenants and a hidden route through a collapsing floor.
The dungeon’s main reward is Ancient Dragon Knight Kristoff Ashes, obtained by defeating its boss, the Ancient Hero of Zamor. It also contains the Dragoncrest Shield Talisman +1, Crimson Seed Talisman, Leyndell Soldier Ashes, a Prattling Pate “Let’s Get to It”, spirit- and grave-glovewort, and several minor materials. A separate Black Knife Assassin stands outside the entrance and drops the Black Knife weapon. That assassin is an exterior encounter, not the dungeon’s final boss.
Geography and boundaries
Sainted Hero’s Grave is a large stone burial complex built into a hill in central-western Altus Plateau. Its exterior is recognisable by the monumental stone structure and the Black Knife Assassin waiting directly before the entrance.

Access and approach
Sainted Hero’s Grave is available once the player can reach the Altus Plateau. No quest, boss kill or dungeon key is required to enter the grave itself. However, the Black Knife Assassin blocks the doorway and must be defeated before the entrance becomes usable.
Recommended approach
From the Altus Plateau road near Rampartside Path, follow the road west towards the hill. If approaching from Leyndell, leave the outer capital-wall area and travel along the plateau road rather than trying to enter the capital through the grave. The grave is an optional side location, not a route into Leyndell.
The approach is relatively exposed, so use Torrent to close the distance if the surrounding enemies are causing trouble. You can also fight the Black Knife Assassin on the open ground outside rather than in the doorway.
Entrance guardian: Black Knife Assassin
The Black Knife Assassin outside Sainted Hero’s Grave is a distinct named encounter from the Black Knife Assassins found elsewhere in the game. It drops the Black Knife, a faith-scaling dagger with the Blade of Death skill. It does not drop the Black Knifeprint, which belongs to a different location and encounter. Eldenpedia lists the Sainted Hero’s Grave assassin separately from the invisible assassin in Sage’s Cave and records the Black Knife as its drop.

Checkpoint and internal layout
After the long lift descends, activate the Sainted Hero’s Grave Site of Grace. This is the dungeon’s only listed checkpoint. From the grace, the route divides into:
The lift is worth remembering. If you die after descending, the grace allows you to return without repeating the exterior assassin fight.
---
Dungeon mechanic: circles of light
Several enemies appear blackened or shadow-coated. These enemies are resistant or immune to ordinary damage while outside the dungeon’s light circles. The correct method is to attract them into a bright circular patch projected by a statue.
The mechanic applies most importantly to the shadowy imps and the Grave Warden. It does not mean every enemy in the grave is invulnerable. Sorcerers, ordinary undead and Royal Revenants can be fought normally, although the Revenants are particularly vulnerable to area healing.

Walkthrough
1. Site of Grace and the first Stonesword Key room
From the Site of Grace, turn towards the entrance of the crypt. The nearby fog door is opened with a Stonesword Key. Inside is a small room with a sorcerer and the Crimson Seed Talisman.
The Crimson Seed Talisman improves the amount restored by the player’s Flask of Crimson Tears. It is a useful early or mid-game talisman for characters who rely heavily on flask healing, but it is not essential to completing the grave.
Decision: If Stonesword Keys are scarce, you can leave this room for later. The deeper Stonesword Key room contains the dungeon’s more generally useful defensive talisman.
2. First crypt intersection
Return to the main passage and continue deeper until the route divides. Take the forward route and turn right into the room with sorcerers above the stairs. Eliminate the sorcerers first if possible. Their spells can make the cramped stairs more dangerous than the melee enemies.
A side route beneath the staircase leads to a Royal Revenant encounter. This is optional.
3. Royal Revenant and nearby glovewort
The first Royal Revenant can be triggered beneath the staircase. Royal Revenants are aggressive, teleporting enemies with rapid multi-hit attacks. They are also exceptionally vulnerable to healing incantations. Heal and similar area-healing effects can damage them, often through terrain or from the stairs above.
Defeating this Revenant gives Ghost Glovewort [4]. A Grave Glovewort [5] can be collected in the area behind where it appears. If you do not need the material immediately, it is reasonable to postpone the fight or run past it, especially on a first attempt.
4. First light room and shadow imps
Return to the intersection and take the lower southward route. An imp stands near a circle of light. Defeat it, then continue until a shadow-coated enemy drops down.
Do not waste attacks on the shadow enemy while it is outside the light. Instead:
Continue east and down the stairs. In the next room, the light is around the corner. A sorcerer waits below the stairs while two shadow imps patrol near the illuminated area. Run around the corner, draw the imps into the light and defeat them. Then return for the sorcerer and collect the nearby glovewort.
5. Collapsing-floor chamber
Proceed through the doorway and down into the next chamber. The sandy-looking floor collapses when you move across it, dropping you into a lower room surrounded by shadow imps.
This fall is part of the intended route. You do not need to avoid it. Once you land:
Collect Grave Glovewort [3] in the south-east portion of the lower room. Then operate the lever on the north side. This opens the way towards the blade corridor.
6. Blade corridor and upper route
The next passage contains falling blades and ordinary undead. The blades move vertically through slots in the floor. Watch their cycle rather than trying to sprint continuously.
The upper route contains more undead and leads to sorcerers positioned above a lower floor. Clear the high-ground sorcerers first. One is deeper in the corner, so do not assume the first visible caster is the only threat.
7. Second Stonesword Key room
A second fog door is found in this upper section. It requires Stonesword Keys and contains:
Dragoncrest Shield Talisman +1 improves physical damage negation. It is one of the most valuable rewards in the dungeon, particularly for melee characters and players learning the timing of physical attacks. The item is not obtained from the boss, and opening this side room is optional.
The first Stonesword Key branch gives the Crimson Seed Talisman, while the deeper branch gives Dragoncrest Shield Talisman +1. If you can open only one on an early visit, the Dragoncrest talisman is usually the stronger general-purpose choice.
8. Returning through the collapsing floor
From the upper route, use the short tunnel and drop back into the collapsing-floor chamber. This time, land on the middle level rather than falling all the way to the bottom. The Leyndell Soldier Ashes can be collected from the northern side.
These Spirit Ashes summon Leyndell soldiers. They are a fixed collectible, not a random drop. After collecting them, drop through the central opening and return to the blade corridor.
9. Horseman and locked boss route
Move north through the blades and continue along the corridor. An undead horseman appears near the corner. The surrounding zombies can be cleared first to create more room, although they are not all mandatory.
The horseman is mobile but has limited space in which to manoeuvre. Strike the horse when possible and avoid becoming trapped between it and the corridor walls. Ranged characters can punish it as it turns; melee characters should wait for its attack recovery rather than pursuing every movement.
Defeating the horseman does not immediately open the boss door. Continue east, pass the first pair of blades and turn into the side archway. Climb the ladder.
10. Royal Revenant chamber and upper bridge
At the top of the ladder, look down before dropping. A Royal Revenant waits below, and another can appear after you enter the chamber. The corpse contains Human Bone Shard ×5. The Ghost Glovewort reward associated with the Revenants is useful, but the fight is optional and can be avoided by dropping carefully and crouch-walking along the side.
After passing the chamber, cross the upper bridge over the blade corridor. A corpse hanging over the edge contains Root Resin ×3. Continue west up the stairs to collect Prattling Pate “Let’s Get to It”.
The path ends near the shadowy Grave Warden. Collect the glovewort in the area if safe, then prepare to lure the Warden back to the earlier light circle.
11. Grave Warden
The Grave Warden is the dungeon’s progression gate. It is not the final boss, but the boss door remains closed until it is defeated.
The Warden may hesitate at the edge of the light. If it refuses to enter, make a safe attack to provoke a swing, then retreat again. The aim is not to fight it in darkness. Once the Grave Warden dies, the previously sealed route opens.
12. Ancient Hero of Zamor
Return through the blade corridor, turn east at the far end and pass the final blades. Follow the stairs to the fog gate. An ordinary zombie on the approach can be ignored or killed before entering.
The Ancient Hero of Zamor uses frost-based attacks, rapid sword swings and evasive movement. The arena is more forgiving than the Evergaol version because Spirit Ashes and multiplayer assistance are available.
The boss drops Ancient Dragon Knight Kristoff Ashes. The dungeon is complete once the boss is defeated, although you can return to collect any skipped materials.

Enemies and bosses directory
Ordinary dungeon enemies
The exact presentation of the ordinary undead can vary by room and route, but the dungeon’s fixed notable enemies include sorcerers, imps, Revenants and the Grave Warden. The location directory records Imp, Revenant Follower, Royal Revenant, Putrid Corpse and Grave Warden Duelist among the dungeon’s enemy types.

Hazards and secrets
Light is the real weapon
The dungeon’s light circles are not decoration. If an enemy appears blackened, look for the nearest circle or the statue projecting it. Fighting outside the light wastes time and can make the enemy seem invincible.
Healing damages Royal Revenants
Royal Revenants are among the most dangerous enemies in the grave, but they are unusually vulnerable to area healing. If you have Heal, use it when the Revenant closes in. The spell can damage it even when the enemy is partly obscured by the staircase or nearby architecture.
Do not spend every Stonesword Key immediately
The first locked room is close to the Site of Grace and offers the Crimson Seed Talisman. The second locked room is deeper in the dungeon and offers Dragoncrest Shield Talisman +1. Both are worthwhile, but the second reward is often more broadly useful.
The collapsing floor is intentional
The fall into the light-filled chamber is not a failed jump or a trap that blocks progress. It is the route to the lever, lower glovewort and later return path.
The Grave Warden must be moved
The Warden is designed to be fought in the light. If you attack it in its starting room, your damage will be ineffective. Lead it back through the corridor instead.

Lore and atmosphere
Sainted Hero’s Grave belongs to the wider group of Hero’s Graves scattered across the Lands Between. These locations present burial architecture associated with revered warriors and test the player through elaborate traps rather than a simple linear crypt. The presence of a Zamor hero as the final opponent links the dungeon to the ancient warrior culture represented elsewhere by Zamor ruins, Zamor knights and the Hero of Zamor.
The grave also reinforces the separation between several groups of warriors in the base game:
The golden-lineage visual motifs noted in the location’s gallery and the Leyndell soldier reward place the crypt aesthetically within Altus Plateau’s royal and funerary landscape, but the game does not identify a named resident, quest giver or active faction settlement within the dungeon.
---
Progression changes and missability
Sainted Hero’s Grave has no known quest-state transformation comparable to Leyndell changing into Leyndell, Ashen Capital. Its layout, Site of Grace, rewards and boss remain available as optional base-game content.
