About this guide
Scope: Base game Elden Ring. This guide treats Seluvis’s Rise itself as the tower, its immediate exterior and its directly attached quest content. The wider Three Sisters area, Seluvis’s hidden puppet cellar, Pidia’s storehouse beneath Caria Manor and the neighbouring Ranni’s Rise and Renna’s Rise are covered separately where they connect to the tower, but are not silently folded into its boundaries.
Overview
Seluvis’s Rise is one of the three towers in the Three Sisters sub-region of western Liurnia of the Lakes. It is the south-western tower, standing south of Ranni’s Rise and overlooking the rear of Caria Manor. The tower is both a small location in its own right and the main base of operations for Preceptor Seluvis, one of the most morally dubious characters attached to Ranni’s questline.
The Rise contains little conventional dungeon combat. Its importance comes from character progression, sorcery purchases, Spirit Ashes, a Memory Stone, several quest decisions and the discovery of Seluvis’s disturbing puppet collection. Its contents also change significantly as Ranni’s quest advances.
Location and boundaries
Seluvis’s Rise stands in the Three Sisters, a plateau behind Caria Manor. The Three Sisters contains three named towers:
Seluvis’s Rise is therefore not another name for the whole Three Sisters region, nor is it part of the interior of Caria Manor. Caria Manor is the approach dungeon and regional gateway, while Seluvis’s Rise is an independent tower in the open area beyond the manor.
Nearby but separate
The following places are connected to Seluvis’s story but should not be treated as physical parts of Seluvis’s Rise:
This separation matters because Seluvis’s tower provides the dialogue and purchases, while the hidden cellar reveals the physical evidence behind his puppet operation. Pidia’s inventory and death are also handled at a different location beneath the manor.

Reaching Seluvis’s Rise
From Liurnia
The usual route begins at Caria Manor in north-western Liurnia.
The entrance is blocked before the appropriate Ranni dialogue has been completed. Several guides describe the barrier as being removed after speaking with Ranni and her retainers, rather than through a separate key or puzzle.
Practical route from Ranni’s Rise
From the Site of Grace at Ranni’s Rise, leave the tower and ride south. Seluvis’s Rise is the squat, isolated tower below and to the south-west. The ground around the Three Sisters is uneven, so approaching from the tower entrance is safer than attempting blind drops from the cliffs.
The area is open enough for Torrent, although the tower itself is entered on foot. If you are trying to reach Seluvis quickly for his quest, fast travel to Ranni’s Rise and make the short ride south rather than approaching again from Caria Manor.
---
From Liurnia
- 01Enter Caria Manor and make your way through its hand-spider-filled grounds and upper structures.
- 02Defeat Royal Knight Loretta at the end of the manor.
- 03Leave the manor through the rear exit to reach the Three Sisters.
- 04Travel south or south-east to Ranni’s Rise.
- 05Speak to Ranni and agree to enter her service.
- 06Speak with the spectral versions of War Counselor Iji, Blaidd the Half-Wolf and Preceptor Seluvis.
- 07Return to Ranni and exhaust her dialogue.
- 08Travel south to Seluvis’s Rise.
The tower interior
Seluvis’s Rise is a compact vertical building. Its interior is more like a character residence and study than a combat dungeon.
The main floor contains Seluvis and the initial quest interaction. Stairs and ladders lead upwards to the tower’s upper section, where a chest contains the area’s permanent physical reward.
Memory Stone
A Memory Stone is found in a chest at the top of Seluvis’s Rise. A Memory Stone permanently increases the number of spell memory slots available to the player by one. It is useful for any character using multiple sorceries or incantations, particularly a build that has not yet collected several tower rewards.

Memory Stone: Acquisition steps
- 01Enter Seluvis’s Rise after unlocking it through Ranni’s introduction.
- 02Speak with Seluvis if you are progressing his quest.
- 03Climb through the tower using the interior stairs and ladder.
- 04Open the chest at the top to receive the Memory Stone.
Preceptor Seluvis
Preceptor Seluvis is a sorcerer in Ranni’s service and the resident of the tower. He speaks to the Tarnished with open contempt, presenting himself as superior and cultured while treating living people as materials for his puppet experiments.
His tower dialogue develops in stages. At first, Seluvis gives the player a task involving a potion. After that task is resolved, he can offer sorceries and eventually Spirit Ashes representing his puppets. His quest is closely tied to Nepheli Loux, Gideon Ofnir, the Dung Eater, Ranni and Pidia.
Seluvis’s initial dialogue
After you have spoken to Seluvis’s projection at Ranni’s Rise, visit the physical Seluvis at his own tower. Accept his request and he gives you Seluvis’s Potion.
The potion is not a normal consumable. It is a quest item with three possible destinations:
The available route depends on the progress of the relevant character quests. Seluvis’s Potion can be handed to Gideon for disposal, given to Nepheli after the required developments in her story, or given to the Dung Eater after his own prison and invasion steps have been completed.
Recommended caution
If you want to preserve the widest range of character outcomes, do not give the potion impulsively. In particular:
The game does not present the potion as an openly harmful item when Seluvis hands it over. Its consequences become clearer through dialogue and later environmental evidence.
---
Seluvis’s initial dialogue
| Recipient | Broad result |
|---|---|
| Nepheli Loux | Advances the puppet route associated with Nepheli |
| Dung Eater | Unlocks the Dung Eater Puppet route |
| Gideon Ofnir | Gideon disposes of the potion, avoiding the direct transformation of Nepheli or the Dung Eater |
Seluvis’s sorcery shop
Once the potion stage has been resolved, return to Seluvis and exhaust his dialogue. He can sell a selection of sorceries, including several Carian and glintstone spells.
His inventory is not all available from the beginning. Some spells require handing over sorcery scrolls, including the Academy Scroll, Conspectus Scroll and Royal House Scroll. Other spells are available through Seluvis without those scroll requirements. The following inventory is recorded for Preceptor Seluvis:
Carian Retaliation is especially relevant for players collecting defensive Carian sorceries. It can be purchased from Seluvis after the required introduction and dialogue, rather than being obtained as a tower chest reward.

| Sorcery | Requirement or note |
|---|---|
| Swift Glintstone Shard | Academy Scroll |
| Great Glintstone Shard | Academy Scroll |
| Glintstone Cometshard | Conspectus Scroll |

Seluvis’s puppet shop
Seluvis’s puppet shop is not immediately available simply because you have entered the tower. It requires investigation of his hidden chambers in the wider Three Sisters area.
Unlocking the shop
The cellar is not physically inside Seluvis’s Rise. It is an associated Three Sisters location and should be recorded separately when mapping the area.
Puppet inventory
The Dung Eater Puppet and Dolores the Sleeping Arrow Puppet are not freely interchangeable in every playthrough. The potion choice determines which character-related puppet route is available. The Dung Eater Puppet requires the Dung Eater’s own prison and invasion stages to be completed before the purchase becomes possible.
Starlight Shards
Starlight Shards are the currency used for Seluvis’s puppet purchases. They are not bought from Seluvis and are acquired from fixed locations around the Lands Between. Before opening the puppet shop, it is worth checking your inventory so that you can buy a puppet immediately after the cellar investigation.
---
Unlocking the shop
- 01Accept Seluvis’s request and obtain Seluvis’s Potion.
- 02Resolve the potion by giving it to Nepheli, giving it to the Dung Eater or asking Gideon to dispose of it.
- 03Return to Seluvis and exhaust his dialogue.
- 04Travel to the ruins north-east of Ranni’s Rise.
- 05Find the illusory floor leading down into Seluvis’s puppet cellar.
- 06Interact with the puppet-related message and inspect the hidden chamber.
- 07Return to Seluvis and select the dialogue concerning his chambers.
- 08Purchase a puppet with Starlight Shards.
Puppet inventory
| Puppet Spirit Ash | Cost | Condition |
|---|---|---|
| Finger Maiden Therolina Puppet | 2 Starlight Shards | Available after the puppet shop is opened |
| Jarwight Puppet | 3 Starlight Shards | Available after the puppet shop is opened |
| Dolores the Sleeping Arrow Puppet | 5 Starlight Shards | Route-dependent availability |
| Dung Eater Puppet | 5 Starlight Shards | Requires the Dung Eater potion route and further progression |
The Amber Starlight branch
After purchasing at least one puppet and continuing Seluvis’s dialogue, he may discuss a scheme involving Ranni. He asks for an Amber Starlight, found in a small grotto in Altus Plateau near the Altus Highway Junction area. Giving it to him rewards the Magic Scorpion Charm.
Seluvis then provides an Amber Draught intended for Ranni.
Safe progression order
For a playthrough focused on collecting Seluvis’s rewards while preserving Ranni’s quest:
---
Safe progression order
- 01Meet Ranni and unlock Seluvis’s Rise.
- 02Take Seluvis’s Potion.
- 03Resolve the potion through the route you prefer.
- 04Investigate the puppet cellar.
- 05Buy any desired puppet.
- 06Obtain the Amber Starlight.
- 07Give it to Seluvis and collect the Magic Scorpion Charm.
- 08Do not give the Amber Draught to Ranni unless you deliberately want to see that branch.
- 09Continue Ranni’s quest by obtaining and delivering the Fingerslayer Blade when ready.
- 10Return to Seluvis’s Rise after the relevant progression to collect his later remains.
Seluvis’s death state
Seluvis does not remain permanently available throughout the entire game. He is found dead in his tower after certain Ranni-related progression points, including after giving Ranni the Fingerslayer Blade or attempting to use the Amber Draught on her.
The Bell Bearing can be given to the Twin Maiden Husks so that relevant shop stock can be recovered there. Seluvis’s death is therefore not a reason to delay the tower indefinitely, but it does mark the end of his living dialogue and quest interactions.

| Missability | The corpse does not appear until the relevant progression state has been reached. |
Characters and associated residents
Story-associated characters
These characters are connected to the tower’s quest content but are not ordinary residents of Seluvis’s Rise:
Factions
No formal faction controls Seluvis’s Rise in the same way that a fort or legacy dungeon may belong to an army. The tower is associated with:
Seluvis is nominally one of Ranni’s retainers, but his private scheme against her makes his loyalty questionable.
---
Story-associated characters
| Name | Details |
|---|---|
| Ranni the Witch | met at Ranni’s Rise. |
| War Counselor Iji | introduced as one of Ranni’s retainers. |
| Blaidd the Half-Wolf | introduced through Ranni’s service and later found in other regions. |
| Nepheli Loux | possible recipient of Seluvis’s Potion. |
| Gideon Ofnir | can dispose of Seluvis’s Potion. |
| Dung Eater | possible recipient of Seluvis’s Potion. |
| Pidia, Carian Servant | keeper of puppets and merchant below Caria Manor, reached through a separate concealed route. |
Enemies, bosses and hazards
Seluvis’s Rise is not structured around a boss fight. Its principal threats are quest consequences and the possibility of making an unwanted character decision.
The approach through Caria Manor is substantially more dangerous than the tower itself. The manor contains hostile hands, spectral soldiers and other hazards before the player reaches Royal Knight Loretta. Once in the Three Sisters, exploration is comparatively open, with the main dangers coming from the wider region rather than from a dedicated Seluvis’s Rise combat encounter.
Practical hazards
No separate boss, Evergaol or conventional dungeon checkpoint is required for Seluvis’s Rise itself.
---
Recommended exploration route
For a first playthrough, the following order minimises accidental quest loss:
---
Recommended exploration route: steps
- 01Complete Caria Manor and defeat Royal Knight Loretta.
- 02Enter the Three Sisters and activate Ranni’s service.
- 03Speak to Ranni’s retainers at Ranni’s Rise.
- 04Visit Seluvis’s Rise and collect Seluvis’s Potion.
- 05Decide whether Nepheli, the Dung Eater or Gideon should receive it.
- 06Return to Seluvis and exhaust all available dialogue.
- 07Collect the Memory Stone from the tower roof.
- 08Search the ruins north-east of Ranni’s Rise for the separate puppet cellar.
- 09Return to Seluvis and purchase the puppet you want.
- 10Continue Ranni’s quest until the Amber Starlight branch becomes available.
- 11Give Seluvis the Amber Starlight if you want the Magic Scorpion Charm.
- 12Avoid giving the Amber Draught to Ranni unless you accept the consequences.
- 13After the relevant Ranni progression, revisit Seluvis’s Rise for the Bell Bearing and Preceptor’s Set.

Lore and significance
Seluvis’s Rise is deliberately modest as a physical location. Its importance comes from the contrast between the refined language of a Carian preceptor and the grim evidence hidden below the Three Sisters. Seluvis describes puppets as objects to cherish, but his method involves coercion, bodily transformation and the removal of another person’s will.
The tower also exposes tensions within Ranni’s faction. Seluvis is one of her retainers, yet he secretly attempts to turn Ranni into a puppet. His private project makes the tower a useful counterpoint to Ranni’s stated opposition to the control imposed by the Greater Will and the Two Fingers.
The puppets also connect Seluvis to other characters. Dolores the Sleeping Arrow was associated with Gideon, while the potion branches tie Seluvis to Nepheli and the Dung Eater. Pidia’s separate storehouse beneath Caria Manor shows that the operation extends beyond the tower itself.
Research and boundary note
The most reliable distinction supported by the researched location and character material is:
Some online guides use “Seluvis’s Rise” loosely for Seluvis’s entire quest area. This guide does not. The hidden puppet cellar and Pidia’s storehouse are included only as clearly labelled associated locations, not as parts of the tower itself.
Research and boundary note
| Name | Details |
|---|---|
| Seluvis’s Rise | tower, Seluvis, Memory Stone, potion dialogue, sorcery shop and later corpse. |
| Three Sisters | the wider open sub-region containing all three rises and the hidden puppet cellar. |
| Caria Manor | the neighbouring legacy dungeon and Pidia’s separate access route. |
| Ranni’s Rise and Renna’s Rise | distinct towers with their own progression and rewards. |
