Key takeaways

  • Street of Sages Ruins lies in the north-west corner of the Swamp of Aeonia, rather than in Sellia or the general Caelid overworld.
  • The Meteorite Staff is in a broken tower in the south-western section of the ruins, guarded by Miranda Sprouts.
  • Rock Sling is in a chest in an underground cellar associated with the ruins.
  • The staff and spell work particularly well together because the Meteorite Staff boosts gravity sorceries, while Rock Sling deals physical damage and applies strong stance pressure.
  • The ruin has no Site of Grace, merchant, quest NPC or named boss.
  • The surrounding swamp is more dangerous than the ruins themselves Scarlet Rot buildup, poor visibility and hostile creatures make Torrent and rot-curing supplies useful.

Note

Base game guide. This article covers the named overworld location Street of Sages Ruins in Caelid, including the ruin buildings and the immediately associated cellar. It does not merge in nearby Caelid Waypoint Ruins, Sellia, Sellia Crystal Tunnel, Caelid Catacombs or the wider Swamp of Aeonia.

Overview

Street of Sages Ruins is a small but unusually rewarding ruin complex in the north-western part of the Swamp of Aeonia, Caelid. Its broken buildings are occupied by fungal spellcasters and Miranda Sprouts, while the surrounding swamp exposes the player to Scarlet Rot. The location contains no named NPC, Site of Grace or conventional boss encounter, but it is one of the most valuable early detours for an Intelligence build.

The ruin’s main prizes are the Meteorite Staff and Rock Sling, a combination that can carry a sorcery-focused character through a substantial part of the early and mid-game. It also contains the complete Perfumer’s Traveling Set, a Perfume Bottle, a Golden Rune [4] and crafting materials.

Boundaries and neighbouring locations

The ruins occupy a broken settlement on relatively firm ground within the north-western Aeonia swamp. Their map marker is close to several other points of interest, which can make the area appear larger than it is.

Caelid itself is divided into the broad sub-regions of Swamp of Aeonia and Greyoll’s Dragonbarrow. Street of Sages Ruins belongs to the former, not Dragonbarrow.

Excluded from this guide’s scope

This distinction matters because map guides sometimes place all nearby items under a broad “Street of Sages Ruins” heading, while some are actually in the surrounding swamp or another named ruin.

Geography and layout

Street of Sages Ruins is a low, sprawling collection of collapsed stone buildings. Most of the structures have open roofs or broken walls, allowing the player to move between courtyards without following a fixed dungeon route. The complex is not arranged as a conventional corridor dungeon. Instead, it is a cluster of rooms, ruined streets and partially submerged areas.

The location is easiest to understand as three practical sections:

The southern section is the most important target for a quick visit. The Meteorite Staff is inside a broken tower occupied by Miranda Sprouts. The body carrying the staff is positioned in the tower’s interior, with the enemies obstructing the approach.

The cellar is not a fully developed underground dungeon. It is a short, enclosed room reached through stairs or an opening in the northern portion of the ruins. The chest containing Rock Sling is easy to miss if the player searches only the upper courtyards.

There is no internal Site of Grace, lift, fog gate or dungeon entrance marker. Once the player has collected the rewards, the area is effectively complete.

Access and routes

Route from the Swamp of Aeonia

The most straightforward normal route is to enter the swamp and travel towards its north-western side. The ruins stand on firmer ground than much of the surrounding water, but the approach can still trigger Scarlet Rot if the player remains in the swamp for too long.

The exact approach can vary depending on which side of the swamp the player enters from. There is no required key, quest state or stat threshold for entering the ruins.

Route from Sellia Crystal Tunnel

A common early-game route uses the trapped transporter chest in the Dragon-Burnt Ruins in Limgrave. That chest sends the player to Sellia Crystal Tunnel. After escaping the tunnel and resting at its Site of Grace, the player can travel downhill into the swamp and head west towards the ruins.

This route is dangerous for a low-level character because Sellia Crystal Tunnel contains miners and a more punishing early-game enemy environment. It is nevertheless a useful shortcut for players specifically seeking the Meteorite Staff and Rock Sling at the beginning of a playthrough. The Meteorite Staff’s location is described as being in the north-western corner of the swamp, while the tunnel route is a recognised early access method.

Route from the Swamp of Aeonia: A practical route is

  1. 01
Enter the Swamp of Aeonia from a nearby Site of Grace.
  2. 02
Use Torrent to cross the shallow swamp quickly.
  3. 03
Aim for the ruined stone buildings on the north-west side.
  4. 04
Dismount when entering tight interiors, since Torrent can make looting and turning around awkward.
  5. 05
Search the southern buildings first for the Meteorite Staff.
  6. 06
Sweep the central rooms for the Perfumer items.
  7. 07
Finish at the northern cellar and open the chest containing Rock Sling.

Enemies and hazards

Miranda Sprouts

Miranda Sprouts occupy the broken tower containing the Meteorite Staff. They are stationary plant enemies that can inflict poison or other status effects through their attacks, depending on the variant and distance.

They are dangerous mainly because the staff corpse is placed behind or among them in a confined space. A player who rushes directly into the tower may be hit repeatedly before having room to retreat. Clearing the plants from outside with arrows, spells or fire is safer than standing in the middle of the room.

The Meteorite Staff page specifically identifies the broken tower as being occupied by Miranda Sprouts.

Fungal sorcerers

The ruins also contain fungal spellcaster enemies. They use ranged attacks and can be awkward to fight across broken walls and uneven ground. Their attacks are easier to avoid if the player closes the distance quickly or uses the ruins as cover.

Because the settlement contains several open courtyards, it is possible to draw one enemy into a safer area before engaging. This is preferable to fighting while also standing in swamp water.

Scarlet Rot

The largest danger comes from the surrounding Swamp of Aeonia rather than from the ruin buildings. Remaining in the red swamp water causes Scarlet Rot buildup. Once the meter is full, the player loses health rapidly until the effect expires or is cured.

Use Torrent to reduce exposure time, but do not rely on speed alone. The approach can involve dismounting, turning around or navigating around ruined walls. Preserving enough healing and rot-curing resources for the return journey is sensible.

No boss encounter

Street of Sages Ruins does not contain a named boss or a fog-gate arena. The enemies inside are ordinary encounters, and the rewards are obtained directly from corpses and a chest. Do not confuse the ruins with nearby Caelid Catacombs, which have a separate dungeon structure and boss encounter.

Loot and collectibles

The following are the principal verified rewards within the ruin complex.

Meteorite Staff

The Meteorite Staff is found on a corpse in a broken tower in the south-western section of Street of Sages Ruins. Miranda Sprouts guard the room.

It requires 18 Intelligence and has high early-game sorcery scaling. Its passive effect boosts gravity sorceries, but the staff cannot be upgraded, infused or strengthened. The weapon’s combination of strong starting performance and accessibility is why the location is a popular early detour for Intelligence characters.

The staff is especially useful when paired with Rock Sling, although it is not restricted to that spell. It can also be held in the off hand later to retain its gravity-sorcery bonus while another staff handles general spellcasting.

Rock Sling

Rock Sling is found in a treasure chest in the cellar beneath the northern part of the ruins. It is a gravity sorcery requiring 18 Intelligence and one memory slot.

The spell summons three rocks and launches them at the target. It deals physical damage rather than ordinary glintstone magic damage, and its projectiles can apply substantial stance pressure. The spell can also be cast while riding Torrent, although Torrent slows during the casting animation.

To obtain it, locate the cellar entrance in the northern ruins, descend and open the chest. There is no key requirement.

Armour

The ruins contain the complete Perfumer’s Traveling Set on a corpse. The set consists of:

The set is found together rather than assembled from separate locations. It is the unaltered version of the set and can later be altered at a Site of Grace or by Boc where the normal alteration system permits.

The armour’s item descriptions associate travelling perfumers with the search for new aromatics and flower gardens, including possible treatments for Misbegotten, Omens and other people regarded as impure. That description gives the set a thematic connection to Caelid’s rot, flowers and perfuming materials, although the ruins do not contain a named perfumer NPC.

Crafting and miscellaneous loot

A Perfume Bottle can be collected in the ruins. Perfume Bottles are reusable crafting vessels for perfume items, including aromatics and spraymists. The Caelid bottle is specifically listed as being in Street of Sages Ruins.

A Golden Rune [4] is also listed among the location’s notable loot. It can be consumed for runes or sold, but it is a fixed pickup rather than a repeatable resource.

The ruins and their immediate surroundings also provide crafting materials, including Aeonian Butterflies. These are fixed or local-world pickups rather than a special reward from a boss. The exact availability of minor materials may vary after collection, but the main named rewards do not depend on random generation.

Crafting-material directory

The available sources consistently identify the Meteorite Staff, Rock Sling, Perfumer’s Traveling Set, Perfume Bottle and Golden Rune [4] as the meaningful fixed rewards of the ruins.

Factions, residents and characters

Street of Sages Ruins has no named resident, merchant or quest character. The enemies present are hostile inhabitants rather than members of a faction with dialogue or an identifiable named leader.

Ordinary inhabitants and enemies

The wider Swamp of Aeonia is associated with Scarlet Rot and the aftermath of the battle between Malenia and Radahn, but characters connected with that story, including Millicent and Sage Gowry, are encountered at other named locations. They should not be listed as residents of Street of Sages Ruins.

The Perfumer equipment provides an environmental and thematic connection to the broader perfumer tradition of the Lands Between, but no perfumer NPC is present in the ruins. The existence of a Perfume Bottle and the armour set does not establish that the location functioned as a shop or service facility.

Buildings, services and facilities

Services

There are no confirmed services at Street of Sages Ruins.

The presence of the Perfumer’s Traveling Set and a Perfume Bottle should not be interpreted as evidence that the ruins contain a working perfume business. They are loot items, not services.

Lore and environmental reading

The name “Street of Sages” suggests a former settlement or district associated with learned figures, but the game does not provide a named historical account of the settlement. The ruins are now overrun by plants, swamp contamination and fungal enemies.

The environmental contrast is significant. A place whose name implies learning and scholarship lies in a region devastated by Scarlet Rot. The Meteorite Staff and Rock Sling also give the location a secondary connection to gravity sorcery and the study of celestial forces. Rock Sling’s description links the technique to the young General Radahn and his Alabaster Lord mentor, while the Meteorite Staff is described as containing a dark purple glintstone said to be a fragment of a meteorite.

That connection does not mean that the ruins were a Radahn stronghold or a dedicated gravity-magic academy. The available item descriptions establish an association between the rewards and gravity sorcery, but they do not identify Street of Sages Ruins as the place where Radahn studied.

The Perfumer equipment adds another layer. Its descriptions portray travelling perfumers as healers searching for aromatics and flower gardens to aid people considered impure. In a swamp dominated by rot and hostile plants, the set can be read as evidence of a failed or abandoned attempt to work with local flora. This is an environmental interpretation rather than a confirmed event in the location’s history.

---

Progression changes and missability

The main loot in Street of Sages Ruins is not tied to a quest or major world-state transition. The Meteorite Staff, Rock Sling, Perfumer’s Traveling Set and Perfume Bottle can normally be collected whenever the player reaches the area.

The main practical missability issue is navigational rather than progression-based. Players often collect the Meteorite Staff and leave without finding the northern cellar containing Rock Sling. Conversely, players searching only the cellar can miss the staff in the south-western tower.

The location can also be dangerous to revisit after accumulating runes because it has no local checkpoint. If killed in the swamp, the recovery route may expose the player to the same Scarlet Rot hazard again.
