Key takeaways
- Bring two Stonesword Keys The entrance is sealed by a two-key Imp Statue, despite some guides describing it as requiring only one. Multiple location checklists and walkthroughs identify the entrance as a two-key seal.
- The dungeon is below Perfumer’s Ruins, not part of the ruins themselves The ruins are a separate overworld location with their own enemies and loot.
- The lower pit contains Winged Misbegotten Ashes Do not simply follow the upper corridor past the Grave Glovewort. Drop into the lower chamber and search the corpse against the wall.
- The lever is on the route to the boss, but the Rune Arc and Prattling Pate are nearby side pickups.
- Perfumer Tricia is usually the priority target in the boss fight She supports the Misbegotten Warrior, while the Warrior is the more aggressive melee threat.
- The dungeon has one Site of Grace and one boss arena There are no merchants, quest NPCs, summonable friendly characters or permanent services inside.

Introduction
Unsightly Catacombs is a compact but unusually characterful dungeon beneath the western Altus Plateau. It lies below Perfumer’s Ruins, in the cliffside west of the Abandoned Coffin area and near the transition towards Mt Gelmir. Unlike many catacombs, it contains no standard imp or skeleton theme. Its inhabitants are mainly Misbegotten and Omen, creatures treated as outcasts by the Golden Order and other societies in the Lands Between.
The dungeon is worth visiting even if you are not completing every optional area. It contains a useful ranged Spirit Ash, several Grave and Ghost Glovewort pickups, a Rune Arc, and a boss reward that summons the supporting Perfumer encountered in the final fight. The route is straightforward once its vertical layout is understood, but the sleeping Misbegotten in the lower chambers can punish careless movement.
Location and boundaries
Unsightly Catacombs is an enclosed minor dungeon in south-western Altus Plateau. Its entrance is built into the cliff below Perfumer’s Ruins. The dungeon’s name refers to the interior catacomb complex only. It does not include:
The safest approach is to travel from the Abandoned Coffin Site of Grace, head north-west, then veer left before reaching Perfumer’s Ruins. Look for the path descending towards the cliff wall. The sealed entrance and Imp Statue sit at the end of this route.
The two-key requirement is important because the dungeon is easy to confuse with nearby one-key or unsealed locations. The entrance is consistently listed by several independent checklists as requiring two Stonesword Keys, while some shorter guides simplify this to “a Stonesword Key”. The two-key listing is the better-supported version.
Nearby named places
Only the first three are directly relevant to finding the entrance. The other places are neighbouring but separate locations.

Internal layout
The catacombs are arranged over several connected levels rather than as a large branching complex. The broad route is:
The dungeon has a strong vertical rhythm. Most of the exploration consists of descending through staircases and a pit, then climbing slightly back towards the lever and boss entrance. The lower rooms are dark, so a torch or lantern is useful, particularly when trying to identify sleeping enemies and corpse pickups.
Internal layout: steps
- 01Entrance and Site of Grace
- 02Upper Misbegotten corridors
- 03Descending stairway and lower passage
- 04Pit containing sleeping Misbegotten and Winged Misbegotten Ashes

Enemies and hazards
Misbegotten
Misbegotten make up most of the dungeon’s ordinary opposition. They appear in several forms, including enemies lying in ambush, larger axe-wielding variants, and groups gathered around the lower corpse chambers.
The first Misbegotten encountered after the Site of Grace is positioned to catch players who attack the obvious sleeping enemy without checking the nearby corner. A safer approach is to clear the active ambusher first, then deal with the sleeping foe.
Later rooms include larger Misbegotten with long-reaching melee attacks. Avoid fighting several in the same corridor where possible, since their wide swings can cover most of the passage.
Omen
Omen are associated with the dungeon in location directories, although the route is primarily defined by Misbegotten encounters. Their presence reinforces the catacombs’ role as a place for beings rejected or hidden by the dominant order. Treat them as close-range threats with strong stagger resistance and enough reach to punish panic healing.
Sleeping enemies
Several Misbegotten in the lower pit are initially asleep or inactive. You can:
The safest option for most characters is to collect the Winged Misbegotten Ashes first, then retreat to a wider section before fighting.
Complete walkthrough
1. Enter and activate the Site of Grace
Use the two Stonesword Keys at the Imp Statue and enter the dungeon. Activate the Unsightly Catacombs Site of Grace immediately.
From the grace, descend the stairs. A Misbegotten lies ahead, with another positioned around the right-hand corner. Do not rush directly at the obvious target. Check the corner first, then clear the enemies one at a time.
2. Cross the upper corridors
Continue into the next hall. Two larger Misbegotten patrol or wait on opposing sides of the passage. Pull one towards the entrance if necessary rather than engaging both in the centre.
Collect the Grave Glovewort in this section. Glovewort is fixed dungeon loot, not a random drop, and is used for upgrading regular Spirit Ashes. One of the Grave Glovewort [4] pickups is located in the upper staircase area, while additional plants are found deeper in the dungeon.
Take the central stairs down to the next level.
3. Descend towards the pit
At the next level, watch for a Misbegotten concealed near the right-hand side. Collect the Grave Violet nearby, then continue along the passage.
The eastern route leads towards another Misbegotten and a hound. Clear the enemies before collecting the Grave Glovewort [5] near the wall.
Continue towards the southern passage and the next stairway. You will find another Grave Glovewort [4] on the way. The route then reaches a pit or drop beside the staircase.
4. Drop into the lower chamber
Drop into the pit carefully. The lower area contains several sleeping Misbegotten and the corpse carrying Winged Misbegotten Ashes. The corpse is positioned against the southern wall or near the edge of the chamber, depending on your approach.
A Ghost Glovewort [5] is also found in this lower section. The recommended order is:
The Winged Misbegotten Ashes summon a flying Misbegotten that attacks from above with ranged weapons. They are a distinctive reward and one of the main reasons to explore the dungeon even if you intend to avoid the boss.
5. Follow the northern corridor
From the pit, take the northern corridor. Another Grave Glovewort [4] lies along this route. Continue up the stairs until you reach a room containing a statue and the dungeon lever.
Pull the lever to open the boss door. Do not leave immediately. The surrounding corridors contain the Rune Arc and Prattling Pate “Apologies”, and both can be collected before entering the boss arena.
6. Collect the side loot
In the lever area, explore the nearby corridors rather than heading straight for the fog door.
Prattling Pate “Apologies” is a reusable voice-emitting tool. It produces the spoken phrase “Apologies” when used. It is not a weapon, spell or quest key, and there is no shop or NPC inside Unsightly Catacombs associated with it.
7. Enter the boss room
Once the lever has been pulled, return to the opened boss door. The arena contains two bosses:
4. Drop into the lower chamber
- 01Drop down.
- 02Turn towards the wall and collect Winged Misbegotten Ashes.
- 03Collect the Ghost Glovewort [5].
- 04Either sneak back out or prepare to fight the sleeping group.
Boss: Perfumer Tricia and Misbegotten Warrior
This is a duo encounter rather than a single large boss. The Misbegotten Warrior applies direct melee pressure with sweeping sword attacks, while Perfumer Tricia stays further back and supports the fight with Perfumer abilities.
The most practical strategy is usually to attack Perfumer Tricia first. Guides specifically identify her as the more important target because she can support or buff the Misbegotten Warrior, making the melee enemy harder to handle if she is left alive.
Suggested approach
Melee characters should avoid trading blows with the Warrior while Tricia remains active. Ranged characters can pressure Tricia from the opposite side of the arena, but should still watch for the Warrior’s advancing attacks.
The bosses reward Perfumer Tricia Ashes, allowing you to summon a Spirit Ash version of the Perfumer. The fight also awards runes; one walkthrough directory records the duo’s reward as 9,400 runes.
Suggested approach
- 01Enter and immediately create distance from both enemies.
- 02Keep moving around the arena so the Warrior cannot pin you against a wall.
- 03Close on Tricia when the Warrior is positioned far enough away.
- 04Use a Spirit Ash or co-op ally to distract the Warrior if needed.
- 05Defeat Tricia first.
- 06Finish the Misbegotten Warrior once the support effects are removed.
Items and collectibles directory
The following directory consolidates the fixed loot reported for the dungeon. It distinguishes upgrade materials from unique rewards and does not include ordinary enemy drops.
Spirit-upgrade materials
The three Grave Glovewort [4] locations are described as being in the initial staircase room, along the corridor reached after dropping into the pit, and in the dark hall before the boss door. The dungeon’s other listed upgrade materials follow the same fixed layout and are not procedural.
Crafting material
Grave Violet is reported in the lower passage after descending from the initial chambers. Root Resin appears in location-level material directories, but the exact pickup placement is less consistently described in the walkthrough sources consulted. It should be treated as a fixed environmental pickup rather than a boss reward or random drop.
Ordinary enemy drops
Misbegotten may drop their equipment and runes, but these are enemy drops rather than guaranteed location rewards. One location directory specifically records the Iron Cleaver among the possible Misbegotten-related drops.
Checkpoints and facilities
Unsightly Catacombs Site of Grace
The dungeon contains one named Site of Grace at the entrance. It provides the normal rest, fast-travel, respawn and character-management functions associated with a Site of Grace.
Summoning Pool
A Summoning Pool is located within the dungeon near the early route, before the deeper turn into the catacombs. It is a multiplayer facility rather than a permanent NPC or merchant service.
No merchants or quest NPCs
There are no verified merchants, ordinary residents, quest givers or shops inside the catacombs. Perfumer Tricia is encountered as a boss and later becomes available as a Spirit Ash reward, but she is not a resident NPC who can be spoken to in the dungeon.
Lore and environmental reading
The location’s enemy composition is its strongest lore signal. The catacombs contain Misbegotten and Omen rather than the imps, skeletons or undead creatures commonly associated with other burial dungeons. The inhabitants are surrounded by corpses and treated as disposable or hidden beings. This fits the wider Elden Ring pattern in which the Golden Order’s idealised society excludes people and creatures considered impure, accursed or malformed.
The name “Unsightly” is therefore more than a description of the dungeon’s appearance. It reflects the social judgement imposed on its inhabitants. The presence of a Perfumer alongside a Misbegotten is also notable. Perfumers are associated with healing, support and refined alchemical craft, yet Perfumer Tricia fights beside a creature that the established order rejects. The pairing makes the boss encounter feel like a meeting of two marginalised or displaced figures rather than a conventional guardian battle.
This is an interpretation of the dungeon’s presentation rather than a directly stated character biography. The game does not provide a dedicated conversation or item description that fully explains why Tricia and the Misbegotten Warrior are together.
