Key takeaways

  • Auriza Hero’s Grave and Auriza Side Tomb are separate locations The Side Tomb is north of the Hero’s Grave and is not part of this guide.
  • The entrance is reached from the Capital Outskirts, below the capital wall The Hermit Merchant’s Shack is a useful approach point.
  • The dungeon’s first major challenge is not the boss but the chariot network Use alcoves, ledges and the centre of the archway as safe points.
  • Open the Stonesword Key door near the Site of Grace early if you want Golden Epitaph, but be ready for Basilisks and Death Blight.
  • The chariot-destruction puzzle grants the Tree Sentinel Set and Ash of War Holy Ground.
  • The final encounter is Crucible Knight Ordovis and another Crucible Knight, not a single ordinary Crucible Knight.
  • No NPC questline is required to enter or complete the grave Spirit Ashes and multiplayer assistance are available for the boss encounter.

Note

Base game location guide. This page covers Auriza Hero’s Grave itself, including its entrance chamber, chariot corridors, lower crypts, flame-trap section and Crucible Knight boss arena. It does not include the neighbouring Auriza Side Tomb, which is a separate dungeon with its own boss and rewards.

Overview

Auriza Hero’s Grave is an optional Hero’s Grave dungeon in the Capital Outskirts, on the eastern side of Leyndell, Royal Capital. Its entrance lies below the capital’s outer wall, near the road and cliff paths south-east of Capital Rampart. The dungeon is built around moving golden chariots, Basilisks, skeletons, flame traps and a late-game Crucible Knight duo.

The grave is unusually rewarding for an optional dungeon. Its loot includes Golden Epitaph, Vulgar Militia Ashes, the Crucible Feather Talisman, the Tree Sentinel Set, Ash of War: Holy Ground, and the Crucible Axe Set and Ordovis’s Greatsword from the boss. The dungeon also contains several Grave and Ghost Glovewort items, a Stonesword Key, a Golden Rune and other smaller pickups.

The defining puzzle is the chariot system. Three chariots eventually occupy the dungeon’s main tracks. By raising a flame-trap pillar, you move one chariot’s summoning sigil into the path of the others. Activating it causes the chariots to collide and destroys all three, making the remaining exploration considerably safer and awarding the Tree Sentinel Set and Holy Ground.

Named locations directory

Nearby but outside the dungeon

The descriptive names in the second half of the first directory are functional guide labels for recognisable dungeon sections rather than separate map locations with independent game map markers.

---

The dungeon can be entered once you can reach the Capital Outskirts. It has no stated key, quest or boss requirement. The entrance is at the bottom of a cliff, so the practical challenge is finding the descending route rather than unlocking the doorway.

Vitality-boosting equipment can help against Basilisk attacks. One walkthrough specifically recommends increasing HP and Vitality, noting that a sufficiently durable character may survive a chariot impact that would otherwise be fatal. This is a contingency, not a substitute for avoiding the vehicles.

Suggested route to the entrance

---

Auriza Hero’s Grave is best understood as five connected sections:

The dungeon loops back on itself. Several pickups are intentionally safer to collect after the chariots have been destroyed, so a first pass should prioritise survival and route recognition rather than collecting every item immediately.

Suggested route to the entrance: steps

  1. 01
    Reach the Capital Outskirts.
  2. 02
From the north-western side of the outer capital, travel towards the area beneath the bridge and cliff.
  3. 03
Use the Hermit Merchant’s Shack as a rough reference point.
  4. 04
Follow the descending south-eastern path until you reach the grave entrance.
  5. 05
Take the elevator down and activate the Auriza Hero’s Grave Site of Grace.

Suggested route to the entrance: steps

  1. 01
Entrance chamber and Golden Epitaph room
  2. 02
    First chariot ramp
  3. 03
    Basilisk chambers and double-chariot ramp
  4. 04
    Beam, ladder and flame-trap section
  5. 05
Boss approach and Crucible Knight arena

Entrance chamber

The elevator deposits you in a room with the Site of Grace. Directly ahead is a Stonesword Key fog wall. Opening it requires one Stonesword Key and leads to a compact chamber containing Golden Epitaph. Two Basilisks are present, so do not assume the locked room is a harmless treasure alcove.

Golden Epitaph is a straight sword associated with the Golden Order. Once collected, return to the entrance room and take the western stairs to begin the main route.

First chariot ramp

The first chariot is not necessarily active as soon as you enter the ramp. It appears beneath a glowing sigil once you advance far enough. The safest approach is to move down the ramp, then use the side alcoves as cover.

The first important shelter is on the right after several lanterns. Skeletons occupy this area and must be dealt with carefully. A chariot may pass while a skeleton is reforming, so make sure defeated skeletons have been struck again to prevent resurrection.

After the chariot passes uphill, continue towards the bottom of the ramp and move onto the narrow central archway. A second chariot patrols the adjoining route. The space beneath the archway is a useful temporary refuge because it protects you from both vehicles.

From there, you can collect Fan Daggers from a corpse hanging over the ledge, then drop down into the lower section.

Basilisk chambers

The lower chamber contains several Basilisks that emerge from the ground. Their Death Blight spray is more dangerous than their physical attacks, particularly if you are trapped in a corner or trying to collect an item.

Kill the Basilisks before gathering the central and wall-side loot. The area contains Grave Glovewort [6] and connects to rooms containing Ghost Glovewort [5] and Grave Glovewort [5]. Another Basilisk waits in an alcove near the next corridor.

Double-chariot ramp

The next roadway contains two chariots operating on adjacent paths. The correct technique is to run in stages rather than attempt to cross the entire section at once.

Watch the nearer chariot. When it moves uphill, leave the tunnel and travel down the right side. As the other chariot turns, shift to the safer side of the ramp. Alternate sides according to the vehicles’ positions until you reach the area between the pillars.

This section contains several pickups that are best postponed:

The beams are not merely a shortcut. They are the intended way to reach the dungeon’s side rooms and the flame-trap mechanism.

---

The dungeon contains three chariots. Two operate on the visible roadway, while the third is associated with a sigil controlled by a flame-breathing pillar.

The destruction awards the Tree Sentinel Set and Ash of War: Holy Ground. The set and Ash of War are not ordinary corpses placed in a room. They are rewards for solving the chariot mechanism.

A commonly reported shortcut is to use Margit’s Shackle or Mohg’s Shackle to interact with mechanisms from a distance. This can be useful for the flame pillar, but it is an optional convenience rather than a required part of the dungeon’s intended route. The reliable, location-specific method is to reach and strike the pillar normally.

Once the chariots are destroyed, backtrack and collect the items that were previously exposed to the roadways. This is the safest way to complete the dungeon thoroughly.

---

After reaching the beam section, follow the wooden beams down and across the chamber. Watch for Basilisks in the adjoining rooms. The route eventually leads to a ladder and another chariot ramp.

The ladder route brings you to an elevator and a flame trap. The trap fires down a narrow corridor at regular intervals. Wait for the flame to stop, run past, then strike the pillar to raise it. This both opens the route and activates the chariot solution when you later reach the associated drop.

An Omen guards the Crucible Feather Talisman. You can fight it directly or collect the talisman and retreat, depending on your build and how much risk you want to take.

After the chariots are destroyed, revisit the ramps and upper ledges. Several items that were technically reachable earlier are much easier to collect without the vehicles:

---

The dungeon ends with a two-enemy boss fight against Crucible Knight Ordovis and another Crucible Knight. This is the main reason to bring a summon or multiplayer ally if you are uncomfortable fighting Crucible Knights alone. The boss arena is reached after the final stairs, where several skeletons and skeleton archers wait before the golden fog.

To destroy them

  1. 01
Progress through the chariot and beam sections until you reach the flame-trap area.
  2. 02
Use the elevator and pass the flame trap when it stops firing.
  3. 03
Strike the flame-trap pillar so that it rises.
  4. 04
Continue through the nearby route and drop into the lower alcove.
  5. 05
The raised pillar changes the position of the chariot’s summoning sigil.
  6. 06
Activate the sigil when the third chariot is aligned with the other two.
  7. 07
The vehicles collide and are destroyed.

Boss rewards

These are fixed boss rewards, not random drops. The Crucible Axe Set is associated with Ordovis’s variant of the Crucible Knight equipment, while the greatsword is his distinctive weapon.

Practical strategy

The central rule is to avoid fighting both knights at full aggression at the same time.

The boss fight is more manageable if the dungeon’s chariots have already been destroyed. This removes the need to repeat the most dangerous corridors on every attempt, although the Site of Grace and boss route still require a final run through the skeleton approach.

---

Practical strategy: steps

  1. 01
Enter with a summon, if desired.
  2. 02
Move around the arena rather than standing between both knights.
  3. 03
Keep one knight on the far side of the room while attacking the other.
  4. 04
Use pillars and spacing to interrupt their approach where possible.
  5. 05
Prioritise the knight whose attacks are currently easiest to punish.
  6. 06
Be cautious when either knight begins a Crucible attack, such as a winged lunge or tail sweep.
  7. 07
Do not become greedy after a successful counterattack. The surviving knight can close the distance quickly.

Enemy directory

The grave’s ordinary enemies are concentrated by section. Basilisks dominate the lower rooms, skeletons occupy the routes and hiding places around the chariots, and an Omen guards the Crucible Feather Talisman. The golden chariots are environmental enemies rather than conventional combat encounters, but they are responsible for most of the dungeon’s movement challenge.

Enemy directory

Chariot hazards

The chariots follow fixed tracks, but their timing makes the dungeon appear more chaotic than it is. Safe spots include:

Do not sprint blindly after a chariot passes. Another vehicle may be travelling on the adjacent path or returning after reaching the end of its track.

Basilisk hazards

Basilisks can emerge from the ground as you approach loot. If several are triggered together, retreat to a wider room rather than trying to fight in a narrow doorway. Death Blight resistance and quick ranged attacks are particularly useful here.

Skeleton hazards

Skeletons often stand in positions chosen to punish players hiding from chariots. Kill them fully by attacking their remains after they fall. If you leave one reforming, it may rise while you are waiting for the next chariot pass.

Flame traps

The flame traps are activated and manipulated by striking their pillars. Wait for a firing cycle to end, pass the trap, then attack the pillar from a safe position. The raised pillar is essential to the chariot puzzle.

Upgrade materials and plants

The precise route to each glovewort pickup overlaps with the chariot and Basilisk sections. For a complete collection, clear the chariots first, then make a second circuit through the ramps, side rooms and beam paths.

Crafting materials

The dungeon’s broader loot listings also identify smaller crafting pickups, including:

These are ordinary environmental materials rather than unique dungeon rewards. Their presence and exact corpse or ground placements can be less prominent than the named weapons, talismans and ashes, so do not mistake a guide’s omission of a minor material for proof that the material is absent.

This route is designed to reduce repeated deaths and backtracking.

---

Hero’s Graves are funerary dungeons associated with the remains and memory of important warriors. Auriza Hero’s Grave reinforces that theme through its monumental architecture, repeated Erdtree imagery, heavily armoured guardians and the presence of Crucible Knights.

The Crucible Knights are ancient warriors linked to the primordial form of the Erdtree, known as the Crucible. Their equipment and incantations refer to traits that later became associated with the Crucible, including horns, tails and wings. The presence of two of them at the end of Auriza Hero’s Grave makes the dungeon feel less like a simple burial site and more like a guarded military crypt.

The Tree Sentinel Set is thematically appropriate for the area surrounding Leyndell. Its acquisition through the chariot puzzle links the dungeon’s gold-coloured vehicles and capital-road imagery with the mounted guardians seen in the overworld. The reward is a mechanical and visual continuation of the Tree Sentinel motif rather than an NPC quest reward.

After defeating the boss

---

Is Auriza Hero’s Grave required?

No. It is optional content in the base game. It has valuable rewards, but it is not required to enter Leyndell or complete the main story.

Is Auriza Side Tomb part of Auriza Hero’s Grave?

No. Auriza Side Tomb is a separate nearby dungeon. It should be documented separately because it has a different layout, boss and reward set.

Do I need to defeat the Tree Sentinel outside Leyndell first?

No. The overworld Tree Sentinel encounter is not a prerequisite for entering this grave.

What do I get for destroying the chariots?

Destroying all three chariots grants Ash of War: Holy Ground and the Tree Sentinel Set.

Can I skip the chariot puzzle?

You can reach the boss without fully solving it, but the puzzle is strongly recommended. Destroying the chariots makes the dungeon safer and provides two of its most distinctive rewards.

Are the boss rewards random?

No. Ordovis’s Greatsword and the Crucible Axe Set are fixed rewards from the Crucible Knight duo. Smaller environmental materials and enemy drops should be treated separately from these guaranteed rewards.

Can I summon help?

Yes. Spirit Ashes and multiplayer assistance can be used for the boss encounter. The dungeon also has a summoning pool near the Site of Grace, making it practical to summon help before attempting the Crucible Knight duo.

This guide is scoped to the base-game Auriza Hero’s Grave, not Auriza Side Tomb, Leyndell as a whole or any later game continuity. The major boundaries, boss identity, chariot puzzle, rewards and route structure are corroborated by multiple walkthroughs and location listings.

Some minor crafting-material placements are listed by location databases but are not described consistently in the prose walkthroughs. They are therefore kept as a directory rather than assigned an unverified exact room or corpse. The guide does not claim that every decorative architectural feature or every ordinary material pickup has been independently catalogued.
