Key takeaways
- The Church of Inhibition is in eastern Liurnia, on the hill north-west of Frenzied Flame Village and north-east of Bellum Church.
- Festering Fingerprint Vyke invades outside the church, rather than appearing inside the building.
- Vyke drops the Fingerprint Grape, a unique quest item needed by Hyetta at Bellum Church.
- The church contains a Sacred Tear and the complete Finger Maiden clothing set Finger Maiden Fillet, Finger Maiden Robe and Finger Maiden Shoes.
- The dead maiden can be used for White-Faced Varre’s quest, allowing the Lord of Blood’s Favor to be soaked in her blood.

About this guide
Scope: Base game Elden Ring. This guide covers the Church of Inhibition itself, its immediate approach, the invasion area outside the church and the connected Frenzied Flame Village outskirts. Frenzied Flame Village, Bellum Church and the rest of Bellum Highway are treated as neighbouring locations rather than being folded into the church’s boundaries.
Overview
The Church of Inhibition is a ruined Golden Order church on a high northern hill in eastern Liurnia of the Lakes. It is a small location, but one of the most important optional points of interest in Liurnia because it connects three separate threads: White-Faced Varre’s quest, Hyetta’s journey towards the Frenzied Flame, and the backstory of Vyke, the Tarnished who came closer to becoming Elden Lord than anyone before the player character.
The church itself contains a Site of Grace, a Sacred Tear and the remains of an unnamed Finger Maiden. On the approach, Festering Fingerprint Vyke invades. Defeating him rewards the unique Fingerprint Grape, which is required for a later stage of Hyetta’s quest, as well as Vyke’s War Spear.
Overview and boundaries
The Church of Inhibition stands on a bare, elevated hill above the northern edge of the Frenzied Flame Village area. Its immediate surroundings consist of the ruined churchyard, the path approaching from the village and the short stretch where Festering Fingerprint Vyke invades.
The nearby Frenzied Flame Village is a separate settlement. It contains its own enemies, towers and madness hazard, and should not be treated as part of the church interior or churchyard. The church is the destination at the top of the hill, not the whole village region.
Likewise, Bellum Church is a separate church to the south-west. It is important to the Church of Inhibition because Hyetta moves there and asks for the Fingerprint Grape, but Bellum Church is not a subarea of the Church of Inhibition. Church listings place both buildings in Liurnia and along the Bellum Highway, while keeping them as distinct locations.

Geography and approach
The church is positioned on a steep hill in north-eastern Liurnia. From Bellum Church, follow the road north-east towards the Grand Lift of Dectus. As the road reaches the Frenzied Flame Village area, turn towards the hill and climb the slope behind the village. The church can be reached from the north-western side of the village rather than by approaching through the main settlement.
Guides commonly recommend approaching from the north or north-east and keeping close to the eastern cliffs where possible. This reduces the time spent exposed to the village’s madness-inducing towers and avoids some of the more concentrated enemy activity.
Navigation directory
The church has no lift, dungeon entrance, hidden basement or alternate interior route. Its significance comes from the encounter and quest items rather than from a large layout.
---
A practical route is
- 01Start at Bellum Church.
- 02Follow the main road north-east.
- 03Continue towards the Grand Lift of Dectus.
- 04Turn south-east or south around the edge of the Frenzied Flame Village outskirts.
- 05Avoid lingering beneath the village’s frenzied towers.
- 06Climb the hill behind the village.
- 07Expect Festering Fingerprint Vyke to invade on the approach.
- 08Enter the church and activate the Site of Grace before exploring further.
Hazards on the approach
The greatest danger is not the church itself but the Frenzied Flame Village. Frenzied Flame enemies and the village’s towers can inflict Madness. Madness buildup is especially dangerous because it can stagger the player and deal a large burst of damage once triggered.
The safest approach is to ride quickly through the exposed village outskirts, activate the church’s Site of Grace and then return to deal with Vyke or collect anything missed. The tower enemies can be killed to reduce the pressure on the route, but this is optional if the objective is simply to reach the church.
Practical precautions
The madness towers are part of the connected Frenzied Flame Village area, not fixtures of the church itself. They should therefore be treated as an approach hazard rather than as a church landmark.

The Church of Inhibition
The church is a small, roofless or partially ruined structure with a statue at the rear, a corpse beside the Site of Grace and scattered vegetation around the churchyard. There are no merchants, blacksmiths, quest-givers or conventional services inside.
The Church of Inhibition is listed among the churches that contain Sacred Tears. Sacred Tears improve the strength of the Crimson and Cerulean Flask’s restorative effects after being applied at a Site of Grace.
Landmark directory
The rear statue is not a separate named landmark in the game’s map system, but it is the visual marker beside the Sacred Tear.

Residents and associated characters
Unnamed Finger Maiden
A dead Finger Maiden sits beside the Site of Grace. She is not an interactive NPC and has no dialogue, but her corpse has two important uses.
First, she carries the Finger Maiden clothing set. Secondly, her body can be used to soak the Lord of Blood’s Favor during White-Faced Varre’s quest. This is one of the most convenient locations for that objective if the player has reached Liurnia.
The identity of the maiden is never confirmed in ordinary dialogue. Her placement strongly connects her with the Finger Maiden system and with Vyke’s story, but the game does not definitively state that she was Vyke’s maiden. Some reference material describes her as possibly having guided Vyke, which should be treated as an interpretation rather than an established fact.
Festering Fingerprint Vyke
Festering Fingerprint Vyke is a hostile NPC invader who appears on the path leading to the church. He is a separate encounter from Roundtable Knight Vyke, the boss found in Lord Contender’s Evergaol.
He can also heal once with a Crimson Flask, like many humanoid invaders. His attacks apply or threaten Madness, making him particularly dangerous if the player is already suffering buildup from the village.
Drops
Vyke’s War Spear requires Strength, Dexterity and Faith, causes Madness buildup and carries the unique Frenzyflame Thrust skill. The skill launches the user forward and creates a Frenzied Flame explosion, but it also inflicts Madness buildup on the wielder.
Vyke’s other appearance
The Vyke encountered here must not be confused with Roundtable Knight Vyke in Lord Contender’s Evergaol. That later encounter awards the Fingerprint Set, Vyke’s Dragonbolt and runes, while the Church of Inhibition invasion awards the Fingerprint Grape and Vyke’s War Spear.

Drops
| Drop | Type | Importance |
|---|---|---|
| Furlcalling Finger Remedy | Multiplayer item | Fixed reward from the invasion |
| Fingerprint Grape | Key item | Required for Hyetta’s quest |
| Vyke’s War Spear | Great spear | Unique weapon with Madness-related properties |
Items and collectibles
Fixed items
The Fingerprint Grape is described as Vyke’s inflamed eyeball, marked by the same fingerprint burn that damaged his body. When given to Hyetta, it leads her towards the “distant light” and advances her attempt to become a Finger Maiden.
Materials and minor pickups
Reference listings also associate the church area with ordinary materials such as:
These are environmental pickups rather than unique rewards. Their exact availability can be easy to overlook because they are scattered around the churchyard and approach rather than displayed in prominent treasure chests. The major fixed rewards are the Sacred Tear, Finger Maiden Set and Vyke’s drops.

Fixed items
| Item | Location | Notes |
|---|---|---|
| Sacred Tear | Beside the statue at the rear of the church | Improves Flask potency at a Site of Grace |
| Finger Maiden Fillet | On the Finger Maiden corpse | Part of the Finger Maiden Set |
| Finger Maiden Robe | On the Finger Maiden corpse | Part of the Finger Maiden Set |
| Finger Maiden Shoes | On the Finger Maiden corpse | Part of the Finger Maiden Set |
| Furlcalling Finger Remedy | Dropped by Festering Fingerprint Vyke | Multiplayer item |
| Fingerprint Grape | Dropped by Festering Fingerprint Vyke | Unique Hyetta quest item |
| Vyke’s War Spear | Dropped by Festering Fingerprint Vyke | Great spear with Frenzyflame Thrust |
Hyetta’s quest
The Church of Inhibition is not where Hyetta stands, but it supplies the item needed for her next stage. By this point in her quest, Hyetta has appeared at several locations in Liurnia and received three Shabriri Grapes.
She then moves to Bellum Church, where she asks for a Fingerprint Grape. The player must defeat Festering Fingerprint Vyke near the Church of Inhibition, take the grape back to Hyetta and exhaust her dialogue. She subsequently moves on to the Frenzied Flame Proscription in the Subterranean Shunning-Grounds, provided the wider quest conditions are met.
Recommended order
The Fingerprint Grape is a unique quest item rather than a normal consumable. It is not a random drop and is not purchased from a merchant.
Progression warning
If the invasion does not trigger, check that:
A past patch addressed a problem that could prevent Edgar the Revenger and Festering Fingerprint Vyke from invading after all Liurnia bosses had been defeated. This is worth remembering when troubleshooting an apparently missing invasion, although modern versions may behave differently depending on platform and patch state.
---
Recommended order
- 01Meet Hyetta at her earlier Liurnia locations.
- 02Give her the three Shabriri Grapes required by her quest.
- 03Continue her dialogue at Gate Town Bridge.
- 04Travel to Bellum Church and speak with her there.
- 05Visit the Church of Inhibition.
- 06Defeat Festering Fingerprint Vyke.
- 07Take the Fingerprint Grape to Hyetta at Bellum Church.
- 08Exhaust her dialogue and reload or rest if she does not immediately move.
- 09Continue to the Frenzied Flame Proscription later in the game.
White-Faced Varre’s quest
The Finger Maiden corpse provides one of the possible locations for soaking the Lord of Blood’s Favor in maiden blood.
This is not a separate church mission and does not produce a church-specific reward, but it makes the location important for players following Varre’s route to Mohgwyn Palace.
The dead maiden at the Church of Inhibition is distinct from the maiden at the Chapel of Anticipation. Both can be relevant to Varre’s objective, but they are separate bodies in separate locations.
---
To use it
- 01Obtain the Lord of Blood’s Favor from Varre at the Rose Church stage of his quest.
- 02Travel to the Church of Inhibition.
- 03Interact with the dead Finger Maiden.
- 04Use the resulting blood-soaked cloth for Varre’s quest.
Lore and interpretation
The church’s imagery brings together the Golden Order and the Frenzied Flame.
The building is a ruined church associated with the Golden Order, yet its most important visitor is Vyke, a Tarnished who was scorched by the Flame of Frenzy. Vyke’s weapon is described as being burned from within by the same yellow flame that afflicted him. The Fingerprint Grape similarly presents his damaged eye as a grape-like object marked by a fingerprint burn.
Vyke’s wider story is revealed through the Fingerprint armour, his Evergaol encounter and related item descriptions. He was once a Roundtable Knight and came exceptionally close to becoming Elden Lord. He later descended beneath the capital and was touched by the Frenzied Flame. The exact reason is deliberately uncertain. The game suggests possible links to his Finger Maiden, but does not provide a complete account of his decision.
The dead maiden therefore creates a suggestive visual parallel:
The church does not explain this chain directly. Its story is assembled from item descriptions, NPC progression and the contrast between the Finger Maidens’ association with the Two Fingers and Hyetta’s eventual path towards the Three Fingers.
