About this guide
Base game guide. Major spoilers: this guide names the dungeon’s enemies, collectibles, boss and rewards.
Overview
Consecrated Snowfield Catacombs is an optional catacomb dungeon in the Consecrated Snowfield, a hidden sub-region of the Mountaintops of the Giants. It lies in the south-eastern part of the Snowfield, close to the routes leading towards the Haligtree and the Inner Consecrated Snowfield area. The dungeon is not part of the larger Haligtree itself, and it should not be confused with nearby locations such as Hidden Path to the Haligtree, Cave of the Forlorn or Yelough Anix Tunnel.
Its main identity is a combination of late-game catacomb enemies and environmental traps. Two frost-emitting pillars fill parts of the dungeon with mist that can inflict Frostbite. The layout also uses vertical rooms, concealed approaches and a boss route that is less direct than the entrance suggests. The final encounter is the Putrid Grave Warden Duelist, whose reward includes the Rotten Gravekeeper Cloak and a Great Grave Glovewort.
The location is entirely optional in the base game. It contains no required Great Rune, main-story boss or NPC quest step. Its importance is practical rather than narrative: it provides high-level grave glovewort, a distinctive armour reward and a late-game test of positioning against frost traps and powerful dungeon guardians.

Geography
The entrance is in the snowy wilderness of the Consecrated Snowfield, south-east of the main Inner Consecrated Snowfield route and north-east of the approach from the Hidden Path to the Haligtree. The surrounding overworld is subject to the Snowfield’s heavy mist and poor visibility, so the entrance can be easier to locate by travelling between Sites of Grace than by trying to identify it from a distance.
The catacombs themselves are a sealed underground dungeon. Once inside, the outdoor snow, wandering field enemies and regional weather are replaced by stone corridors, burial chambers and mechanical frost hazards.
Canonical place directory
Only the first name in this list identifies the dungeon itself. The remaining names are regional or neighbouring locations used to establish its position and access route.

Subareas
The dungeon has no separately named internal districts or independently accessible child areas. Its practical sections are:
These are descriptive route sections rather than separate map locations. They should not be treated as additional catacombs.

Subareas: steps
- 01Entrance and Site of Grace
- 02Imp corridors and burial passages

- 04Watchdog and Cleanrot Knight chambers

Reaching the Consecrated Snowfield
The Consecrated Snowfield is a late-game progression area. To reach it, obtain both halves of the Haligtree Secret Medallion and bring them to the Grand Lift of Rold. At the lift, change the action prompt so that it reads Hoist Secret Medallion, rather than using the ordinary Rold Medallion route.
Once the lift has transported you to the Hidden Path to the Haligtree, leave that dungeon and enter the Consecrated Snowfield. From there, travel through the snowfield towards the catacombs’ south-eastern position.
Recommended approach
The surrounding Snowfield contains other dungeons and field encounters. They are not part of Consecrated Snowfield Catacombs and should be handled as separate locations.
---
A practical order is
- 01Activate the first Snowfield Site of Grace after leaving the Hidden Path.
- 02Continue through the mist while keeping the map and compass available.
- 03Locate and activate Inner Consecrated Snowfield if you have not already done so.
- 04Travel south-east from the Inner Snowfield area towards the catacombs.
- 05Activate the Consecrated Snowfield Catacombs Site of Grace before exploring.
- 06Clear the dungeon in two passes if visibility, frost buildup or enemy damage becomes difficult:
- 07first pass for the boss route and checkpoint familiarity;
- 08second pass for the remaining collectibles.
Site of Grace
The dungeon has one named Site of Grace:
It is located at the start of the dungeon and acts as the return point after death. Rest there before attempting the lower chambers, particularly if you are carrying a large rune total or are still learning the frost-pillar layout.
There are no shops, merchants, smithing facilities, quest-giving NPCs or purchasable properties inside the dungeon.
Facilities directory
---
Consecrated Snowfield Catacombs has no ordinary friendly residents or named NPCs. Its inhabitants are hostile dungeon enemies and the boss.
Site of Grace
Regular enemies
Imps
Imps occupy the early corridors and are especially dangerous when positioned around corners, doorways or elevation changes. Their small size makes them easy to overlook in the dim stone passages. Use a torch, lantern or lock-on discipline when checking side rooms.
Erdtree Burial Watchdogs
The catacombs contain Erdtree Burial Watchdogs as major dungeon guardians. Their stiff animations can make them appear predictable, but their sudden lunges, sweeping attacks and heavy vertical strikes are dangerous in confined rooms.
Avoid fighting them directly beside a frost pillar. The mist can restrict movement while the Watchdog forces you into the affected area.
Cleanrot Knights
Cleanrot Knights are among the most threatening ordinary enemies in the dungeon. Their attacks can cover a surprising distance, and their defensive posture makes careless trading inefficient. Draw them into a corridor where you can control the distance, or use a summon to divide their attention if the summoning icon is active.
Enemy directory
These names describe the verified enemy types associated with the dungeon. They should not be expanded to include nearby Snowfield field enemies or enemies found in other regional dungeons.
---
Frost-mist pillars
The defining hazard is the pair of pillars that emit frost-inflicting mist. The mist builds Frostbite while you remain inside it and can turn an otherwise manageable fight into a sudden death.
The pillars are not simply scenery. Strike a pillar to disable its active jet. Do this before committing to a fight in the room whenever possible.
Practical method
The pillars are best treated as priority targets. Killing a Watchdog or Cleanrot Knight while leaving the frost mechanism active often creates a more dangerous fight than dealing with the mechanism first.
Practical method
- 01Approach from outside the mist rather than sprinting through the centre.
- 02Watch for the pillar’s active opening and time your approach between bursts where necessary.
- 03Land a melee hit, or use a safe ranged attack if you can target the mechanism.
- 04Retreat immediately if Frostbite buildup is already high.
- 05Confirm that the mist has stopped before fighting nearby enemies.
Frostbite preparation
The dungeon does not require a particular build, but builds with poor stamina management can struggle because the mist encourages hurried movement while the enemies punish panic rolling.
---
The following route is designed to collect the dungeon’s main rewards while reducing backtracking. Exact corpse positions can be easy to miss in the mist and behind vertical structures, so search each chamber after the enemies are dead.
1. Start at the Site of Grace
Rest at Consecrated Snowfield Catacombs and prepare your consumables. This is a good point to equip a lantern or torch, although a shield, spell or weapon with a reliable light source can also help.
Proceed through the opening passages and expect Imp ambushes. Check corners before moving into the next room, especially where the corridor widens.
2. Clear the first burial passages
The initial chambers establish the dungeon’s layout. Search the side passages for minor loot and crafting materials, then continue towards the lower rooms.
Do not rush through a doorway simply because the room appears empty. Imps and larger guardians may be placed out of the first line of sight.
3. Disable the first frost mechanism
When you reach the first frost-mist section, make disabling the pillar your immediate objective. Do not fight through the mist unless you are deliberately using a high-damage sprinting strategy.
Once the jet is inactive, return to the chamber and clear the enemies methodically. Collect the nearby materials, including Grave Violet, Root Resin and Human Bone Shard where present.
4. Search the Watchdog chambers
The deeper rooms contain Erdtree Burial Watchdogs and other heavy opposition. Pull enemies into open ground and avoid allowing multiple large enemies to attack together.
If a Watchdog is present near a frost mechanism, strike the pillar first. The room becomes substantially easier once the environmental damage has been removed.
Collect the high-level grave materials in these sections, especially Grave Glovewort [8] and Grave Glovewort [9]. These are useful for upgrading Spirit Ashes and are one of the dungeon’s main practical rewards.
5. Deal with Cleanrot Knights carefully
Cleanrot Knights can punish players who approach them with a series of attacks rather than waiting for an opening. Use a shield, quick-step skill, ranged pressure or a Spirit Ash distraction according to your build.
The dungeon’s late-game scaling means that even familiar enemy types can deal severe damage. Treat each Cleanrot Knight as an elite enemy rather than an ordinary corridor foe.
A clean approach is
- 01Isolate the knight if other enemies are nearby.
- 02Bait a committed attack.
- 03Punish the recovery rather than trading into the knight’s defensive stance.
- 04Back away before stamina is exhausted.
- 05Repeat until the chamber is safe.
6. Collect the distinctive item rewards
The dungeon’s collectible directory includes the following named rewards and materials:
Crafting materials
Some entries are fixed pickups and some may be obtained through enemy or boss rewards. The Great Grave Glovewort and Rotten Gravekeeper Cloak are associated with the boss reward, while the ordinary glovewort, consumables and crafting materials are dungeon exploration rewards.
7. Find the boss route
Continue through the dungeon until you locate the lever or route that opens the boss door. The level uses its trap rooms and vertical arrangement to make the boss approach less visually obvious than the opening corridor.
If the boss door remains closed, search for an unvisited side chamber, upper ledge or mechanism room rather than assuming the dungeon is bugged. Catacomb boss doors commonly depend on a lever elsewhere in the layout.
Before entering, return to the Site of Grace if you need to replenish healing or change equipment.
---
The final boss is Putrid Grave Warden Duelist, a corrupted version of the Grave Warden Duelist archetype. The encounter takes place in the catacombs’ boss arena and awards:
One database-style guide records the reward as 78,000 Runes, alongside the cloak and Great Grave Glovewort. Rune values can be affected by game circumstances and should be treated as a recorded reference rather than the primary reason to enter the dungeon.
Combat approach
The Duelist uses a large hammer and a chained weapon, giving it both broad close-range coverage and attacks that can catch a retreating player. Its size can make the arena feel smaller than it is.
The Rotten Gravekeeper Cloak is the boss’s distinctive equipment reward. It is not a purchasable shop item and is not associated with a separate NPC or quest.
---
The following consolidated directory covers named rewards reported for the dungeon.
Boss rewards
The directory is limited to the catacombs themselves. It does not include loot from the surrounding Consecrated Snowfield, nearby overworld enemies, or neighbouring locations such as Cave of the Forlorn and Yelough Anix Tunnel.
---
Consecrated Snowfield Catacombs belongs to a wider network of late-game locations, but those locations remain separate areas.
The catacombs do not contain a shop, merchant, settlement or named NPC. The nearby overworld may contain independent encounters, but those should not be attributed to this dungeon.
---
The location has limited explicit story exposition. Its significance comes mainly from its placement. The Consecrated Snowfield is described as the final trial for those seeking Miquella’s Haligtree, and the catacombs sit within that dangerous approach. The dungeon’s burial architecture, grave materials and Grave Warden boss fit the wider Elden Ring pattern of catacombs as places where the dead, burial practices and Erdtree-associated funerary traditions have become corrupted.
The Putrid Grave Warden Duelist reflects this corruption directly. The normal Grave Warden archetype is associated with the protection of ancient graves, while the “Putrid” form links that role to the decay and hostile conditions found in the Snowfield. This is an interpretive connection based on the enemy’s name, setting and reward, not a separately stated quest narrative. The game does not provide a named faction, resident community or historical account specific to these catacombs.

The dungeon’s broad boundaries, hierarchy, boss, major enemy types, frost-pillars and principal rewards are consistently identified across the consulted location and guide references.
Some third-party guides do not expose a full item-by-item map in text, and their descriptions differ in how they order individual corpses and chambers. For that reason, this guide gives a reliable named directory and route logic without inventing exact coordinates or claiming that every corpse position has been independently mapped here. Enemy placement and minor pickup positioning can also vary in how guides label rooms. The output should therefore be treated as a researched guide rather than a frame-perfect map transcript.
