Note

Base game guide. This page covers the Divine Tower of East Altus, its approach bridge, the Fell Twins encounter and the tower’s summit. It does not include the separate Divine Tower of West Altus, the Forbidden Lands beyond the lift, Leyndell’s eastern districts or Mohgwyn Palace.

Overview

The Divine Tower of East Altus is a small but important location on the eastern side of Leyndell, Royal Capital. Its main purpose is to restore the power of Morgott’s Great Rune and Mohg’s Great Rune. Unlike most Divine Towers, which are associated with one demigod’s Great Rune, this tower serves two related Rune bearers.

The tower is reached by following the elevated route from Leyndell towards the Forbidden Lands. A darkened section of the greatbridge contains the area’s only major combat encounter, the Fell Twins. Once they are defeated, the way to the tower opens and a lift carries the player to the summit, where the Great Runes can be restored before they are equipped at a Site of Grace.

Scope and boundaries

The name Divine Tower of East Altus can refer narrowly to the tower itself or more broadly to the whole playable approach leading to it. For practical purposes, this guide treats the location as three connected parts:

The tower is not part of the Mountaintops of the Giants despite its proximity to the route that eventually leads there. Some guides describe it as being near or on the road to the Mountaintops, but its in-game regional association is Leyndell, Royal Capital.

Scope and boundaries: steps

  1. 01
The eastern Leyndell approach, where the player reaches the elevated route.
  2. 02
The greatbridge and Fell Twins arena, including the darkened transition space.
  3. 03
The Divine Tower proper, including the entrance Site of Grace, lift and summit.

The eastern bridge

The approach is an elevated bridge extending away from Leyndell’s eastern side. It is visually connected to the route leading towards the Forbidden Lands, but the tower’s bridge and the ordinary road should be treated as separate directions from the same broad approach.

The most distinctive feature is the change from normal outdoor lighting to a pitch-black encounter space. Visibility is reduced and the player is forced to fight without the usual open-world freedom. This transition is deliberate rather than an ordinary night-time effect.

Fell Twins arena

The arena occupies the darkened portion of the bridge. The player faces two Fell Twins, making positioning more important than in a conventional single-enemy boss fight. The arena is not a large dungeon and has no meaningful side paths or hidden rooms.

After victory, the darkness clears and the player can continue to the tower entrance. The first Site of Grace is located at the gate, providing a checkpoint before the lift and summit.

Tower interior

The tower itself is compact. From the gate, the player uses the large lift to ascend. The upper level contains the summit area and the colossal Two Fingers associated with the Divine Tower’s Great Rune ritual.

There is no shop, crafting station, NPC settlement or branching exploration route at the top. The summit’s function is ceremonial and mechanical: it gives the player a place to restore either of the two relevant Great Runes.

Route from Leyndell

The most direct route begins inside Leyndell and follows the eastern side of the city towards the elevated road. The commonly used navigation reference is the route from the Avenue Balcony area towards the eastern gate and the lift leading onto the upper approach. From there:

The route is easy to misread because the main road and the tower approach are close together. If you reach the ordinary descent towards the Forbidden Lands, look for the elevated bridge branching towards the tower rather than continuing down the main route. This approach is also described in route guides beginning from the Avenue Balcony area.

Route from Leyndell: steps

  1. 01
Leave the central Leyndell streets by taking the eastern route.
  2. 02
Use the lift that carries you towards the outer upper walls.
  3. 03
Follow the elevated road rather than descending immediately towards the Forbidden Lands.
  4. 04
    Continue across the greatbridge.
  5. 05
Enter the blacked-out arena and defeat the Fell Twins.
  6. 06
Activate Divine Tower of East Altus: Gate.
  7. 07
Enter the tower and use the lift.
  8. 08
Activate the appropriate Great Rune at the summit.

Access requirements

There are two separate requirements that players often confuse:

The tower can therefore be visited as part of exploration, but the summit interaction is only useful once you have obtained Morgott’s Great Rune or Mohg’s Great Rune. Morgott’s Rune comes from defeating Morgott, the Omen King in Leyndell. Mohg’s Rune comes from defeating Mohg, Lord of Blood in Mohgwyn Palace. Both are restored at this same tower.

After Leyndell changes

The wider Leyndell region changes after the main story transition that turns the capital into the Ashen Capital. The tower remains a distinct destination, but route landmarks and available city access can become less familiar. If you are returning after this transition, use the map marker and approach from the direction of the Forbidden Lands rather than assuming that every earlier Leyndell street connection remains unchanged.

The important distinction is that the tower is not removed from the game and does not become a different Divine Tower. It remains the destination for Morgott’s and Mohg’s Great Runes.

Places and facilities

Bosses and notable enemies

The Fell Twins are the area’s defining combat encounter. The Leyndell Soldier is a normal enemy associated with the approach rather than a separate boss or named character.

Bosses and notable enemies

Rewards and key objects

Omenkiller Rollo is obtained from the Fell Twins encounter. The two Great Runes are not found as ordinary loot inside the tower. They are restored there after being obtained from their respective demigod bosses.

Encounter overview

The Fell Twins fight is a paired boss encounter. Both enemies pressure the player at once, and the darkness makes it harder to monitor their positions. The fight rewards patience and separation. Attempting to attack one twin while standing between both can quickly lead to overlapping strikes.

The encounter takes place before the tower gate. Defeating the pair clears the route and allows the player to reach the Divine Tower of East Altus: Gate Site of Grace. The boss reward is the Omenkiller Rollo Spirit Ash.

Practical strategy

The darkness is the fight’s main environmental complication. There is no separate puzzle, lever or hidden route required to clear the encounter.

Practical strategy: steps

  1. 01
Do not rush into the centre. Start by observing which twin closes first.
  2. 02
Use the arena edges carefully. The black space limits visibility, but backing towards an edge can reduce the chance of being surrounded.
  3. 03
Separate the twins. Move laterally and keep one enemy between you and the other where possible.
  4. 04
Prioritise the more aggressive target. If one twin is already in melee range, create distance before committing to a long attack.
  5. 05
Use Spirit Ashes if needed. A summon can occupy one twin and make the fight substantially more manageable.
  6. 06
Prefer attacks that control space. Wide weapon swings, throwable items and area spells are useful when both enemies overlap.
  7. 07
Heal only after creating distance. The twins can punish a panic heal if both remain active nearby.

Morgott’s Great Rune

Morgott’s Great Rune is obtained from Morgott, the Omen King. Bring it to the summit of the Divine Tower of East Altus and interact with the corresponding glowing Rune before the Two Fingers.

Morgott’s Great Rune increases maximum HP when active. It is not enough merely to restore the Rune at the tower. Restoration makes it usable, while equipping it and consuming a Rune Arc activates its benefit.

After restoration

  1. 01
Rest at any Site of Grace.
  2. 02
    Choose Great Runes.
  3. 03
    Equip Morgott’s Great Rune.
  4. 04
Use a Rune Arc to activate its effect.

Mohg’s Great Rune

Mohg’s Great Rune is obtained by defeating Mohg, Lord of Blood in Mohgwyn Palace. It is restored at the same summit as Morgott’s Rune.

The identical destination can cause confusion, particularly if the player has already restored Morgott’s Rune and assumes the tower is finished. Return to the summit with Mohg’s Great Rune in your inventory and interact with the other available Rune symbol.

Mohg’s Great Rune has a specialised effect connected with summoned spirits and invasion play. Its activation is separate from Morgott’s Rune, so restoring one does not automatically restore or equip the other.

Services

The Divine Tower of East Altus has no known:

Its facilities are limited to Sites of Grace, the lift and the Great Rune restoration interaction.

Divine Towers are monumental structures connected with the restoration of Great Runes. The East Altus tower’s unusual association with both Morgott and Mohg reflects their relationship as twin Omen brothers, even though their paths and ambitions diverge sharply.

Morgott remains tied to Leyndell and the Golden Order despite being an Omen rejected by much of that order. Mohg instead seeks to establish the Mohgwyn Dynasty under the influence of the Formless Mother. Their Great Runes are nevertheless restored at the same tower, making the site a rare mechanical and thematic link between the two brothers.

The tower’s position beyond Leyndell’s eastern ward is also reflected in Morgott’s Great Rune description, which directs the player towards the Divine Tower standing beyond the great bridge from Leyndell’s eastern side.

Mistaking the tower for West Altus

The Divine Tower of West Altus is not the correct destination for Morgott or Mohg. West Altus is associated with Rykard’s Great Rune and is reached through the Sealed Tunnel. If the tower door does not respond to Morgott’s or Mohg’s Rune, check that you are at East Altus rather than West Altus.

Assuming Morgott’s Rune is active immediately

Defeating Morgott gives you the Rune, but it remains inactive until restored at the Divine Tower. Even after restoration, it must be equipped at a Site of Grace and powered with a Rune Arc.

Thinking the tower only serves Morgott

The tower also restores Mohg’s Great Rune. If you first visit after defeating Morgott, the second function may be easy to overlook.

Losing track of the route

The descent towards the Forbidden Lands is close to the tower approach. If you are following the main story path, you can pass the correct bridge without recognising that it leads to a separate optional destination.

Before leaving the area, confirm that you have:

Where is the Divine Tower of East Altus?

It is on the elevated route east of Leyndell, beyond the capital’s eastern side and near the road leading towards the Forbidden Lands.

Which Great Runes are restored there?

Both Morgott’s Great Rune and Mohg’s Great Rune.

Do I need to defeat Morgott before entering?

Morgott must be defeated to obtain Morgott’s Rune, but the tower’s approach and boss encounter should be distinguished from the Rune restoration itself. The practical requirement for restoration is possession of the relevant Great Rune.

Why is the tower door closed?

The most common causes are being at the wrong Divine Tower or not possessing the Great Rune associated with the tower. For Morgott and Mohg, use East Altus, not West Altus.

What do the Fell Twins drop?

They reward Omenkiller Rollo, a Spirit Ash.

Is there anything else to find inside?

The tower is deliberately compact. Its important contents are the two Rune restoration interactions, the Sites of Grace and the route-clearing Fell Twins reward. It does not contain a shop, quest settlement or large collection of hidden rooms.

Can I restore both Great Runes?

Yes. Morgott’s and Mohg’s Great Runes can both be restored at the summit of the Divine Tower of East Altus. They are restored separately and must also be equipped and activated separately.

The location’s primary boundaries, boss, Sites of Grace and Great Rune functions are consistently reported across the consulted sources. The exact trigger conditions for when the blacked-out Fell Twins encounter becomes available are described inconsistently in secondary guides, so this guide avoids claiming that a particular story flag, beyond access to the route and the relevant game progression, is the sole trigger.

Enemy listings for the approach are also not exhaustive in every source. The directory therefore records the named encounter and the specifically listed Leyndell Soldier without claiming that this is a complete catalogue of every ordinary enemy that may appear along the connecting route.
