Key takeaways
- The dungeon is reached from the Church of Repose area by following the cliff and jumping across to a separate rock shelf. It is not directly accessible from the Zamor Ruins side of the map.
- The first Site of Grace is at the bottom of the entrance lift.
- Several enemies appear as dark, apparently invulnerable shadows Lead them into the dungeon’s golden light circles before attacking.
- One Stonesword Key opens the room containing Flame, Protect Me.
- A second important lift must be sent upwards so that its light shines on the floor below. This reveals the correct solution for the shadowed Troll and opens the route to the boss.
- The Ancient Hero of Zamor drops the Zamor Curved Sword, Zamor Mask, Zamor Armor, Zamor Bracelets and Zamor Legwraps.
Note
Base game location guide. This article covers the dungeon named Giant-Conquering Hero’s Grave in the Mountaintops of the Giants. It does not include the nearby Giant’s Mountaintop Catacombs, Zamor Ruins, Church of Repose, Guardians’ Garrison or Forge of the Giants, although those locations form the surrounding travel route.
Overview
Giant-Conquering Hero’s Grave is an optional Hero’s Grave dungeon in the south-western Mountaintops of the Giants, in the area commonly associated with Flame Peak. Its entrance is positioned on a high, isolated shelf beyond the main land route, so reaching it requires a deliberate jump across a gap rather than simply riding to a visible doorway.
The dungeon is built around two recurring ideas: Fire Monk hazards and shadowed enemies that become vulnerable only inside golden light. Its layout is compact but vertically layered, with lifts, hidden passages, an imp-sealed side room, a lower treasure route and a boss door opened by defeating a shadowed Troll.
The final encounter is the optional Ancient Hero of Zamor. Defeating the boss awards the complete Zamor equipment set and the Zamor Curved Sword. The dungeon also contains several high-level Grave Glovewort pickups, the Giant’s Seal, Cranial Vessel Candlestand and the Flame, Protect Me incantation.
Location and boundaries
Giant-Conquering Hero’s Grave belongs to the Mountaintops of the Giants, not to the Consecrated Snowfield or the nearby Zamor ruins. The dungeon entrance stands on an elevated rock platform beyond the cliffs south-west of the main Mountaintops route. Map guides place it close to the Church of Repose and the southern approach to the Flame Peak section.
The name refers to the interior dungeon and its entrance building. The following nearby places are separate locations:
In particular, Giant’s Mountaintop Catacombs is not a subarea of Giant-Conquering Hero’s Grave. It is a different catacomb dungeon with its own entrance, enemies and rewards. Confusing the two is easy because both are in the Mountaintops of the Giants and both contain burial-dungeon architecture.
Location and boundaries
Access and route
Recommended approach from the Church of Repose
The entrance jump is the main difficulty. It is possible to approach the area from different angles after exploring the Mountaintops, but the dungeon itself is not reached by following a normal road. The Church of Repose is therefore the clearest route for a first visit.
Access checklist
The area is optional and can be completed after reaching the Mountaintops of the Giants. It is not tied to a questline and does not have a progression state that changes after defeating the Fire Giant. The dungeon remains available later in the game.
---
Giant-Conquering Hero’s Grave is arranged as a descending burial complex.
The entrance lift leads to the Site of Grace and an upper corridor patrolled by a Fire Monk. From there, the dungeon branches into an imp-sealed room, a hidden side passage, a series of light-based shadow encounters and a second lift. The lower part contains the main progression route, additional upgrade materials and the mechanism that opens the boss door.
Its design relies less on a conventional locked-door puzzle and more on recognising the relationship between:
The first shadow encounters teach the mechanic in a relatively safe setting. Later, the player must deliberately manipulate the lift so that the light reaches a lower section. This exposes the shadowed Troll and allows it to be damaged.
---
Recommended approach from the Church of Repose
- 01Travel to the Church of Repose Site of Grace.
- 02Ride north along the high ground.
- 03Continue towards the cliff edge, then follow the edge westwards and down around the rock.
- 04Look for the projecting rock shelf that forms a natural jumping point.
- 05Jump across the gap to the isolated platform.
- 06Enter the stone building and use the lift.
- 07At the bottom, activate the Giant-Conquering Hero’s Grave Site of Grace.
1. Site of Grace and the imp-sealed room
From the entrance lift, activate the Giant-Conquering Hero’s Grave Site of Grace.
Near the grace is a room sealed by an imp statue. Spend one Stonesword Key to open it. Inside is the Flame, Protect Me incantation. This spell belongs to the Fire Monk tradition and provides fire protection, making it thematically appropriate for the dungeon’s Fire Monk enemies and fire traps.
The room is optional, but the incantation is one of the dungeon’s most important unique rewards.
2. Fire Monk corridor and hidden passage
Take the main route away from the Site of Grace. A Fire Monk waits at the bottom of the stairs. Defeat it carefully, since the confined corridor makes its fire attacks difficult to avoid.
After dealing with the monk, investigate the wall on the western side of the corridor. A section is an illusory wall. Strike it to reveal a concealed passage and a corpse carrying Golden Rune [11]. The hidden route is easy to miss if you run directly towards the next room.
Continue through the exposed route and drop down to the lower part of the chamber. The fall is safe when taken from the intended window ledge.
3. The first shadowed enemies
The next room introduces the dungeon’s signature enemies. These creatures look like dark or incomplete versions of ordinary enemies and cannot be damaged normally while they remain in their shadowed state.
A golden circle of light is projected onto the floor. Lure the shadowed enemy into this circle. Once it enters the light, its protection is removed and it can be attacked.
You do not always need to kill every shadowed enemy. Running past is a valid strategy, especially if you are carrying a large number of runes or have already collected the nearby items. However, defeating them makes the route safer and helps you learn the mechanic before the later Troll encounter.
Items in the first light section
The Glovewort is found by exploring the lower and side passages rather than staying on the central route. Search the room below and the stairway before advancing through the fire-trap corridor.
4. Fire-breathing pillar and Freezing Grease
The forward corridor contains a fire-breathing pillar or statue. Time your movement between bursts, or disable the trap by striking or activating the mechanism as appropriate from close range.
Beyond it is another room containing Freezing Grease. This is a fixed pickup, not a random enemy drop. It is particularly fitting for the area because the boss uses frost-based attacks, although it is not required for the fight.
The corridor and adjacent rooms also contain further shadowed enemies. Use the golden light rather than wasting attacks against enemies that are still protected.
5. The second light mechanism
Further on, an imp-sealed route provides access to a room connected to the dungeon’s light puzzle. Open the seal if you want the optional treasure and to understand the layout.
The important mechanism is the second lift. Ride it down, then step off and activate it again so that the platform travels back upwards without you. When the lift rises, its movement reveals or exposes a golden light source that illuminates the floor below. This is the light needed for the shadowed Troll.
This lift manipulation is the dungeon’s central puzzle. If the floor remains dark, the Troll will appear invulnerable and the boss route will not open.
6. The shadowed Troll and the boss door
Once the light is active, approach the large gate and draw the shadowed Troll towards the illuminated area. Keep close enough to maintain its attention, but avoid being trapped against the walls.
When the Troll enters the golden light, it becomes vulnerable. Attack it while it is exposed, then retreat back into the light whenever it returns to its shadowed state. Defeating it triggers the opening of the heavy door leading towards the boss.
The Troll is not the final boss, but it is the dungeon’s progression guardian. If the door remains closed, check that:
6. The shadowed Troll and the boss door: steps
- 01The lift has been sent back up.
- 02The light is visible on the lower floor.
- 03The Troll has been fully lured into the illuminated area.
- 04You have defeated the Troll rather than merely passing it.
7. Lower treasure route
Before entering the boss fog, explore the lower sections around the lift and the Troll’s room.
A route below the bridge leads to additional enemies and high-level upgrade materials. Depending on the direction from which you enter, you may need to ride the lift again or drop from the bridge to reach the lower passages.
The notable items in this lower section include:
The Giant’s Seal is found in a room associated with a Fire Prelate and the lower treasure route. The Great Grave Glovewort is nearby. These are among the best reasons to explore the dungeon fully even if you are not interested in the boss rewards.
The lower area also contains a Cranial Vessel Candlestand, a colossal weapon with a distinctive skull-and-flame design. Its position is easy to overlook because the room is more concerned with the lift and light puzzle than with a conventional chest reward.
7. Lower treasure route
8. Boss route
After killing the shadowed Troll and opening the heavy door, follow the newly accessible corridor down to the boss fog.
The route is linear from this point. There are no NPC summons or quest-related interactions specific to the dungeon. Spirit Ashes can be used in the boss arena, as with other suitable open boss encounters.
---
The Ancient Hero of Zamor is an optional boss at the end of Giant-Conquering Hero’s Grave. The encounter is a faster, more mobile version of the Zamor warrior archetype encountered elsewhere in the game.
The boss fights with a curved sword and frost-based attacks. Its most recognisable ranged attack releases a wedge or cone of freezing air across the arena. In the second phase, it coats its weapon with frost, increasing the danger of its close-range attacks and frost build-up.
Practical strategy
Melee characters
Stay close enough to punish the boss after its longer frost attacks, but do not remain directly in front of it during the freezing breath. Roll sideways rather than backwards when possible, since retreating in a straight line can leave you inside the attack’s spread.
The boss is mobile but not heavily armoured. Short, disciplined attacks are safer than long combos. Bleed, poison and other status strategies may work depending on the weapon and build, but the reliable approach is to avoid the frost cone and punish recovery animations.
Ranged characters
Keep moving around the arena rather than standing at maximum distance. The boss closes ground quickly and can cover the arena with frost. Cast or fire after its lunges, sword chains or breath attack.
Spirit Ashes
A Spirit Ash can draw the boss’s attention and create openings, especially during the second phase. Use the distraction to attack from the side rather than standing directly behind the boss at all times, since it can turn rapidly.
Boss rewards
The full Zamor set is awarded as a group from the boss encounter rather than being scattered through the dungeon.

The dungeon’s ordinary enemies are thematically divided between Fire Monk occupants, burial guardians and shadowed creatures.
Boss directory
Enemy directory
The exact appearance of an enemy depends on whether it is encountered in its normal form or within the dungeon’s golden-light mechanic. The shadow effect is not a random modifier or an invasion state. It is a fixed part of the dungeon’s design.
The Fire Prelate is a particularly dangerous ordinary enemy because of its bulk, reach and fire attacks. It is possible to avoid committing to a full fight while collecting the nearby treasure, although clearing the room makes the return route safer.
The Burial Watchdog enemies are found in the lower sections and are associated with the upgrade-material route. They can be fought normally after being exposed to the golden light.

Unique and notable rewards
The item lists reported by several location guides agree on the main equipment and spell rewards, including Flame, Protect Me, Cranial Vessel Candlestand, Giant’s Seal and the Zamor equipment.
Unique and notable rewards

|---|---|---|
| Flame, Protect Me | Imp-sealed room near the Site of Grace | Requires one Stonesword Key |
| Golden Rune [11] | Hidden passage near the early Fire Monk | Behind an illusory wall |
| Freezing Grease | Fire-trap section | Fixed pickup |
| Cranial Vessel Candlestand | Lower treasure route | Colossal weapon |
| Giant’s Seal | Lower room near the Fire Prelate | Sacred Seal |
| Zamor Curved Sword | Ancient Hero of Zamor | Boss reward |
| Zamor Mask | Ancient Hero of Zamor | Boss reward |
| Zamor Armor | Ancient Hero of Zamor | Boss reward |
| Zamor Bracelets | Ancient Hero of Zamor | Boss reward |

Upgrade materials
These are fixed pickups placed through the dungeon. They are not random drops and do not depend on the player’s level or item discovery.
Crafting and gathering materials
These materials are secondary rewards compared with the weapon, seal, spell and Glovewort pickups.

Golden light
The golden light is the most important mechanic in the dungeon. Shadowed enemies cannot be harmed reliably until they enter one of the illuminated circles on the floor.
This applies most importantly to the shadowed Troll that guards the boss route.
A simple method is
- 01Enter the enemy’s room without attacking immediately.
- 02Move near enough to attract its attention.
- 03Retreat towards the golden circle.
- 04Wait until the enemy is fully inside the light.
- 05Attack during the brief vulnerable window.
- 06Repeat if it leaves the illuminated area.
Fire traps
The fire-breathing pillar is placed in a narrow corridor where careless sprinting can cause repeated hits. Wait for one burst to finish, move through the safe interval and disable the trap if possible.
The Fire Monks and Fire Prelate create a similar hazard through enemy attacks rather than environmental traps. Fire resistance is useful but not essential.
Vertical drops
Several routes involve jumping from windows, bridges or lift shafts. The intended early drop is safe, but not every visible ledge is. Do not assume that an item below a railing is reachable by simply dropping straight down.
Missable items
The dungeon does not appear to contain a major quest item that disappears after a world-state change. The optional Flame, Protect Me room remains available as long as the player has a Stonesword Key.
The practical missable is therefore player-driven: it is easy to finish the boss route without collecting the hidden Golden Rune, side-room equipment or high-level Glovewort.
---
---
The dungeon is associated with the war against the Giants and with the remains of warriors preserved in a monumental burial complex. Its use of Troll bodies, Fire Monk presence and giant-themed relics supports the idea that this is not an ordinary catacomb but a commemorative grave built around the history of the giant conflict.
The presence of Fire Monks is also significant. Their order is closely tied to the Flame of Ruin and to the religious and military forces surrounding the Mountaintops of the Giants. The Flame, Protect Me incantation, the Fire Monk enemies and the fiery traps give the dungeon a consistent visual and mechanical identity.
The Ancient Hero of Zamor is the final expression of the grave’s theme. The boss is not a Giant, but a Zamor warrior preserved among the remains of the old conflict. The Zamor equipment obtained after the fight makes the connection explicit.

The following are separate places and should not be counted as internal sections of Giant-Conquering Hero’s Grave:
The Mountaintops of the Giants itself is commonly divided into western and eastern sections, with the Consecrated Snowfield treated separately. Giant-Conquering Hero’s Grave sits within the Mountaintops proper and is not part of the Consecrated Snowfield.
