- The area’s history is tied to the Cuckoo Knights’ assault on Carian territory during the conflict between Raya Lucaria and the Carian royal family.
Note
Base game guide. This page covers the Kingsrealm Ruins location in Liurnia of the Lakes, including its hidden cellar and the route through the illusory wall to the Road to the Manor Site of Grace. Caria Manor, the Three Sisters and War Counselor Iji’s smithing area are treated as neighbouring locations rather than parts of the ruins themselves.
Overview
Kingsrealm Ruins is a small but important ruined settlement on the western road through Liurnia of the Lakes. It stands immediately south of Caria Manor and marks the approach to the former Carian royal estate. The ruins are occupied by concealed Noble Sorcerers and wolves, while an illusory wall hides the road north and a second secret area conceals a Royal Revenant guarding the Frozen Needle thrusting sword.
The location is easy to mistake for a simple collection of broken buildings. In practice, it serves three purposes:
The ruins themselves are not a legacy dungeon and do not contain a large internal network. Their significance comes from what they connect: the lakeside road to Caria Manor, Iji’s smithing post, and the wider Carian royal storyline.
Introduction
- 01It is a compact optional dungeon with a difficult hidden boss.
- 02It is the approach to War Counselor Iji, one of the key supporting characters in Ranni’s storyline.
- 03It provides the western Liurnia route towards Caria Manor, the Three Sisters and the wider Carian quest chain.

Nearby places, not part of the ruins
---
The ruins occupy a relatively narrow stretch of high ground beside the road. Their broken stone walls and collapsed buildings form a loose settlement rather than a conventional enclosed dungeon. Several structures appear to have been levelled or abandoned, leaving open courtyards where enemies can be difficult to spot.
The area’s most noticeable feature is the presence of invisible or flickering sorcerers. The Noble Sorcerers blend into the ruin’s background and can remain difficult to identify until they begin casting. This makes the location more dangerous when approached at speed, particularly if the player is also being attacked by wolves.
A small southern ruin and a separate north-eastern structure were altered between early versions of the game and the later release layout. This is relevant mainly to archival map comparisons rather than ordinary gameplay.

Architectural and historical reading
The ruins are presented as former Carian territory. Iji’s dialogue identifies the area as land belonging to the Carian royal family and describes the Cuckoo Knights’ assault after Raya Lucaria turned against the Carians. According to his account, the Knights of the Cuckoo levelled the tract before continuing towards Caria Manor, where the Carians repelled them with an enchanted snare.
The location therefore functions as a destroyed outer district of the Carian estate. It is not merely an unrelated ruin placed near the manor. The Noble Sorcerers and the hidden royal weapon reinforce the impression that this was once connected to Carian lands and their magical aristocracy.

From the southern Liurnia road
The simplest route is to travel north along the western Liurnia road from the Northern Liurnia Lake Shore area. The Map: Liurnia, West is found on this general route, south of Kingsrealm Ruins, beside a map stele.
From the map stele
- 01Continue north along the road.
- 02Watch for the broken buildings of Kingsrealm Ruins on the western side of the approach.
- 03Enter the ruins on foot or on Torrent.
- 04Dismount if you want to search carefully, since the concealed sorcerers are easier to detect at ground level.
- 05Search the ruin walls for the hidden cellar and the illusory wall leading onwards.
From the Road to the Manor Site of Grace
If you have already discovered the Road to the Manor grace, ride or walk south from the grace to enter the ruins. This is the easiest route for repeated attempts against the Royal Revenant.
After defeating the Revenant, you can return to the grace to replenish healing and reset the ordinary enemies. The grace is also the best starting point for speaking with Iji and continuing towards Caria Manor.
From the Four Belfries
The Four Belfries is west of this part of Liurnia. From there, travel east and then north-east across the western uplands until you join the road leading towards the ruins. This route is less direct than approaching from the southern road, but it can be useful if you are already exploring the western ridge.
Recommended first visit
---
A practical first visit is
- 01Collect the Liurnia, West map fragment if you have not already done so.
- 02Enter Kingsrealm Ruins and clear the visible Noble Sorcerers.
- 03Locate the cellar and decide whether to fight the Royal Revenant immediately.
- 04Search for the illusory wall.
- 05Activate Road to the Manor.
- 06Speak with Iji.
- 07Continue to Caria Manor only when prepared for its magical hazards.
Main ruin
The main ruin is an open collection of collapsed buildings and broken walls. It contains the ordinary enemies and the entrances to both secret areas.
There is no Site of Grace inside the central ruin. If you die before activating Road to the Manor, the run back can be inconvenient, particularly if you are attempting the Royal Revenant for the first time.
Main ruin directory
Hidden cellar
The cellar is concealed beneath the ruin and contains the Royal Revenant. The room is cramped, which makes the encounter more dangerous than an ordinary Revenant encounter in open terrain. The boss can attack almost immediately, leaving little time to establish distance.
The reward chest becomes available after the Royal Revenant is defeated. It contains the Frozen Needle.
Illusory wall and Road to the Manor
A false wall in the northern part of the ruins conceals a passage towards the Road to the Manor. Strike or roll into suspicious stonework until the wall disappears.
The hidden route is one of the location’s most important discoveries because it reveals that the ruins are part of the approach to Caria Manor rather than a dead-end settlement. Once through, you can reach:
The grace and Iji’s position are adjacent to the ruins rather than internal subareas.

War Counselor Iji
War Counselor Iji is the principal named character associated with Kingsrealm Ruins, although he stands beyond the ruins beside the Road to the Manor grace.
Iji is a large troll who served the Carian royal family as a blacksmith and now acts as Ranni’s war counsellor. He provides smithing services, sells Somber Smithing Stones and can eventually offer the Carian Filigreed Crest under the correct progression condition.
Iji’s services
His ordinary weapon-strengthening service is particularly useful before entering Caria Manor, where the player may encounter several enemies capable of dealing heavy magic damage or punishing slow attacks.
Iji’s dialogue and quest relevance
Speak with Iji before entering Caria Manor if possible. He warns the player about the manor’s enchanted defences and explains the area’s connection to the Cuckoo Knights and the Carian royal family.
If the player has helped Blaidd defeat Bloodhound Knight Darriwil and selects the relevant dialogue option, Iji can add the Carian Filigreed Crest to his shop. Later visits can provide dialogue about Blaidd, Jerren, Radahn and the progress of Ranni’s storyline.
Ordinary inhabitants
The actual ruin is occupied by hostile remnants rather than friendly residents.
The Noble Sorcerers are associated with the ruins’ magical and aristocratic atmosphere, but the game does not establish that every sorcerer here was a named member of the Carian royal household. Avoid treating their presence as proof of a specific faction membership beyond their connection to the area’s magical culture.
---
Noble Sorcerers
Noble Sorcerers are the most characteristic ordinary enemies in the ruins. They can flicker in and out of visibility, making them easy to overlook among the collapsed walls. Their sorceries are more dangerous than their physical appearance suggests, especially when several enemies attack from different angles.
Wolves
Wolves patrol portions of the ruins and can draw the player into open ground, where concealed sorcerers may gain time to cast. They are not individually exceptional, but their movement makes them effective distractions.
A quick weapon or sweeping attack can deal with a pack more safely than slow single-target attacks. Alternatively, lure them away from the buildings before searching for the sorcerers.
Royal Revenant
The Royal Revenant is the optional boss of Kingsrealm Ruins. It is found in the hidden cellar and is a separate encounter from the Royal Revenants found elsewhere in the game.
The boss has very high mobility, attacks rapidly with its many limbs and can inflict Poison. Its confined room removes much of the space normally used to avoid its lunges and teleport-like movements. The Revenant’s location and reward are documented as Kingsrealm Ruins, with the Frozen Needle in the chest behind the encounter.
Recommended tactics
The boss is optional. You do not need to defeat it to reach the Road to the Manor, speak with Iji or enter Caria Manor.
Boss directory
---
Recommended tactics
- 01Enter with enough healing to survive an immediate rush.
- 02Keep moving rather than standing directly in front of the boss.
- 03Roll towards or past its lunges instead of retreating in a straight line.
- 04Attack during the recovery after a leap or extended flurry.
- 05Use a summon if you want to create space in the small room.
- 06Healing incantations are especially effective against Revenants. Incantations such as Heal, Great Heal, Lord’s Heal and Erdtree Heal can damage and stagger them, making Faith-based characters unusually well suited to this encounter.
Frozen Needle
The Frozen Needle is the principal fixed reward in Kingsrealm Ruins. It is found in a chest in the hidden cellar after defeating the Royal Revenant.
It is a thrusting sword with frost-related properties and a distinctive heavy attack that fires the blade forward rather than simply performing a conventional thrust. Its unique weapon skill is Impaling Thrust, and the weapon cannot have its Ash of War or affinity changed.
Crafting materials
The location can also contain ordinary gathering materials in and around the ruins. These are not the main reason to visit, and their availability should be treated separately from the fixed Frozen Needle reward.
The exact placement of gathering materials is less important than the distinction between fixed treasure and environmental pickups. They may be collected during exploration and can be replenished after the relevant respawn conditions, unlike the unique weapon chest.

Short completion route
- 01Approach from the southern Liurnia road.
- 02Activate the Road to the Manor grace if it is already accessible.
- 03Enter the ruins and search the open buildings.
- 04Kill or bypass the Noble Sorcerers.
- 05Deal with the wolves before searching the more enclosed structures.
- 06Find the hidden cellar.
- 07Prepare for the Royal Revenant before dropping or entering the boss room.
- 08Defeat the Revenant and collect the Frozen Needle.
- 09Return to the main ruin.
- 10Strike the northern illusory wall.
- 11Pass through to the Road to the Manor grace.
- 12Speak with Iji and use his services if required.
- 13Continue north towards Caria Manor.
For a cautious first visit
- 01Ride around the outer edge of the ruins and locate the Road to the Manor route.
- 02Activate the grace before attempting the cellar.
- 03Return on foot and clear only enemies that obstruct the cellar.
- 04Use a summon or ranged weapon for the Royal Revenant.
- 05Collect the Frozen Needle.
- 06Search the remaining buildings afterwards, when death will not erase a long approach.
- 07Speak with Iji before proceeding to the manor.
If you are not ready for the Revenant
You can leave the cellar alone. The Royal Revenant is not required for:
Return later with stronger equipment, more healing, a spirit summon or a healing incantation.
---
Kingsrealm Ruins itself has no known permanent state change comparable to a legacy dungeon’s major progression switch. The enemies and Frozen Needle remain available as ordinary fixed content.
The nearby Iji encounter does change with character progression:
For this reason, speak with Iji whenever the Ranni or Blaidd storyline reaches a major milestone. Do not assume that every line of his dialogue is available on the first visit.
---
Kingsrealm Ruins represents the damage done to the Carian royal family during the conflict with Raya Lucaria and the Cuckoo Knights. Iji’s account places the ruins within former Carian territory and describes the Cuckoo assault as a failed attempt to advance on Caria Manor.
The area’s enemies and rewards support that history without fully explaining it. The Noble Sorcerers evoke Liurnia’s aristocratic magical culture, while the Frozen Needle is described through its association with the Carians and its unusual frost-based design. The Royal Revenant below the ruins adds a supernatural remnant of royal territory rather than a conventional military guard.
The road’s visual arrangement is also significant. The player moves from the wreckage of the outer estate towards the still-active Caria Manor, then onwards to the Three Sisters where Ranni, Iji, Blaidd and Seluvis become central to one of Elden Ring’s longest optional questlines.

Before leaving Kingsrealm Ruins, confirm that you have:
---
Is Road to the Manor part of Kingsrealm Ruins?
No. It is the grace immediately beyond the ruins and is reached through an illusory wall in the ruin area. It is best treated as a neighbouring checkpoint and route connection.
Is War Counselor Iji inside the ruins?
No. Iji stands just beyond the ruins beside the Road to the Manor Site of Grace, although many guides group him with Kingsrealm Ruins because the location is his nearest landmark.
Is the Royal Revenant required?
No. It is an optional boss in the hidden cellar. Defeating it is required only if you want the Frozen Needle.
What is the main reward?
The main fixed reward is the Frozen Needle, found in the chest after defeating the Royal Revenant.
Can I reach Caria Manor without defeating the boss?
Yes. Use the illusory wall, activate Road to the Manor and continue north. The Royal Revenant is not a progression gate.
Is the Frozen Needle missable?
There is no verified ordinary progression trigger that permanently removes the chest from the cellar. It is still sensible to collect it before moving on because it is the location’s unique reward.
Are Caria Manor and the Three Sisters included in this location?
No. They are separate named locations with their own enemies, bosses, NPCs and progression. Kingsrealm Ruins is the southern approach and gateway to them.
