  • The cave contains one Site of Grace and one main boss, the Bloodhound Knight.
  • The main boss rewards the Cerulean Amber Medallion, which raises maximum FP.
  • The Spear Talisman is found in a chest in a side area guarded by Demi-Humans It strengthens counterattacks made with piercing attacks.

About this guide

Scope: Base game Elden Ring Location: Southern Liurnia of the Lakes Type: Cave dungeon Main boss: Bloodhound Knight Associated exterior area: Slumbering Wolf’s Shack Primary reward: Cerulean Amber Medallion Other notable reward: Spear Talisman

Overview

Lakeside Crystal Cave is a compact but deceptively layered cave dungeon on the southern side of Liurnia of the Lakes. Its entrance is cut into the low cliff beside the lake, almost directly south of the Scenic Isle Site of Grace. The dungeon is inhabited mainly by Demi-Humans, with crystal snails occupying its deeper passages. At the far end, a boss arena contains a Bloodhound Knight, while a rear exit leads to the separate outdoor location called Slumbering Wolf’s Shack, where the Albinauric woman Latenna can be found.

The cave is optional, but it is worth completing for its talismans, its Site of Grace, and its connection to Latenna’s quest and Spirit Ash. It is also an excellent early-to-mid Liurnia dungeon for players who want a straightforward combat challenge without the larger scale of Raya Lucaria Academy or the region’s major legacy areas.

Boundaries and included areas

Lakeside Crystal Cave should be treated as a small dungeon with one associated but separate exterior location.

Outside the cave

The cave’s rear exit opens into the area surrounding:

Slumbering Wolf’s Shack is not part of the cave’s interior directory. It is included here because the cave is its access route and because the two locations are directly connected in progression. The wider southern Liurnia region, including Scenic Isle, Laskyar Ruins, the Liurnia Lake Shore and the Village of the Albinaurics, remains outside the dungeon’s boundaries.

The cave should also not be confused with Academy Crystal Cave. Both are in Liurnia and use crystal-themed names, but Academy Crystal Cave is a separate dungeon beneath the Academy of Raya Lucaria and has different enemies, rewards and a different boss encounter.

Geography and setting

The entrance is on the western side of the Liurnia lake basin, set into the cliff face close to the water. The position is easy to misread from the map because the map marker appears near the upper cliff line, while the actual entrance is reached from the lower lake shore. From Scenic Isle, travel almost due south along the water and look for a dark opening in the rock wall.

Inside, the cave is a natural, irregular network rather than a constructed fortification. The opening sections are dominated by dirt slopes, low rock shelves and vegetation. Deeper areas become wetter and more enclosed, with small falls, pools and crystal growth. The dungeon’s layout is not large, but it is vertically uneven. Several paths appear to be dead ends until the player climbs a ledge, drops to a lower shelf or circles around a chamber.

The visual contrast between the damp cave and the bright crystal deposits helps distinguish the main route from the optional side passages. It also encourages players to explore beyond the first obvious descent, since the most useful treasure is not directly on the route to the boss.

Access and routes

From Scenic Isle

This is the most direct route.

A ghostly guidance figure near Scenic Isle can also point towards the cave, but it is not necessary to follow it. The important navigation detail is that the entrance is at the same general elevation as the lake, not on top of the cliff.

From Liurnia Lake Shore

From the Liurnia Lake Shore Site of Grace, travel north-west along the southern waterline and then continue towards the western cliff. This route is useful if the player has only just entered Liurnia and has not yet reached Scenic Isle. A Nomadic Merchant near Liurnia Lake Shore can sell a Lantern, which is helpful but not mandatory for the dungeon.

From Laskyar Ruins

Lakeside Crystal Cave lies west of the Laskyar Ruins area. Players exploring the ruins can ride around the southern or western edge of the lake and follow the cliff line towards the cave entrance. The route is safer on horseback in the open lake, although Torrent cannot be used after entering the dungeon.

No special key item or quest state is required to enter. Before going inside, consider bringing:

The cave does not require Stonesword Keys. It is accessible as soon as the player can reach southern Liurnia.

From Scenic Isle

  1. 01
Fast-travel to the Scenic Isle Site of Grace.
  2. 02
Ride south across the shallow lake.
  3. 03
Keep the cliff wall close on your right or left depending on your approach, and search the lower rock face rather than the upper plateau.
  4. 04
Enter the cave and activate the Lakeside Crystal Cave Site of Grace.

Checkpoints and facilities

Lakeside Crystal Cave Site of Grace

The Site of Grace is just inside the entrance. It provides the usual rest, fast travel, level-up and flask-management functions. A Summoning Pool is also present near the entrance, making the cave suitable for cooperative play.

A chest near the grace contains an Arteria Leaf. This is a fixed pickup rather than a random drop.

Slumbering Wolf’s Shack Site of Grace

The rear exit eventually leads outside to the Slumbering Wolf’s Shack area. Its Site of Grace becomes available only after reaching the exterior. This grace is useful for returning to Latenna, exploring the surrounding cliffs and continuing the Albinauric-related storyline.

There are no merchants, smiths, upgrade facilities or permanent shops inside Lakeside Crystal Cave.

---

Residents, characters and factions

Latenna the Albinauric

Latenna is not inside the cave. She is found at the Slumbering Wolf’s Shack, reached by leaving through the dungeon’s rear exit. She is associated with the Haligtree Secret Medallion questline and can eventually become the source of the Latenna the Albinauric Spirit Ashes.

Her availability depends on the player’s progression through the Albinauric storyline. The important sequence is:

Guides commonly identify clearing Lakeside Crystal Cave as the route needed to reach Latenna’s shack.

Latenna is a story-associated visitor rather than a resident of the cave. She does not patrol the dungeon, assist with the Bloodhound Knight encounter or provide a shop service.

Ordinary inhabitants

The cave’s living inhabitants are hostile rather than neutral:

There are no friendly ordinary NPCs, guards, faction leaders or law-enforcement characters within the cave.

Factions

No formal faction controls Lakeside Crystal Cave. The Demi-Humans are inhabitants of convenience rather than members of a named organisation. The Bloodhound Knight represents the wider class of Bloodhound Knights seen elsewhere in the Lands Between, but the game does not identify a local faction or employer for this particular encounter.

Latenna the Albinauric

  1. 01
Find Albus at the Village of the Albinaurics and obtain the right half of the Haligtree Secret Medallion.
  2. 02
Travel through Lakeside Crystal Cave and defeat the Bloodhound Knight.
  3. 03
    Exit to Slumbering Wolf’s Shack.
  4. 04
Speak to Latenna and exhaust her dialogue.
  5. 05
Accept her request concerning the medallion and her journey.

Enemies and hazards

Demi-Humans

Demi-Humans form the bulk of the dungeon’s opposition. They are dangerous mainly because they attack from concealment and in groups. Several wait beside the route rather than standing in the centre of the passage. Others emerge from bushes, ledges or side chambers after the first enemy is engaged.

Crystal Snails

Crystal Snails inhabit the darker lower sections. They are slow, but their concealment and ranged crystal attacks make them easy to overlook. Use the glow of the crystals and the sound of their attacks to locate them. If a chamber appears empty but crystal projectiles begin striking you, search the edges and upper surfaces rather than charging straight ahead.

Bloodhound Knight

The Bloodhound Knight is the dungeon boss. This is a fast, aggressive humanoid enemy using a curved greatsword and Bloodhound-style movement. It can close distance quickly, chain slashes together and use evasive movement that makes careless ranged attacks unreliable.

The arena is comparatively contained, so excessive rolling can carry the player into a wall or corner. Staying near the boss while watching its attack rhythm is often safer than repeatedly retreating.

The Bloodhound Knight drops the Cerulean Amber Medallion.

Walkthrough

1. Activate the grace and collect the entrance chest

Enter the cave and rest at the Lakeside Crystal Cave Site of Grace. Open the nearby chest for an Arteria Leaf. This is a safe opportunity to establish the checkpoint before beginning the descent.

If you lack a permanent light source, equip a torch or Lantern now.

2. Clear the first Demi-Human ambush

Follow the slope down carefully. Demi-Humans wait around the first bend and can surround you if you rush towards the lower passage. Pull them back towards the entrance, where there is more room to dodge.

Search the nearby side path for cave materials before continuing. The cave’s early branches are short, so it is difficult to become permanently lost, but it is easy to walk past a corpse or moss patch while concentrating on the enemies.

3. Explore the upper side route

From the early descent, look for the path that rises towards a more open chamber. This route contains additional Demi-Humans and a chest holding the Spear Talisman.

The chest is in a small campsite reached by following the path without immediately dropping to the lower level. It is guarded by Demi-Humans, so kill the group before opening it. The Spear Talisman strengthens counterattacks from piercing attacks. Its effect applies to the counter-hit portion of a qualifying attack, not simply to every attack made with a weapon that looks like a spear.

This is the cave’s most easily missed major reward. If you are following a boss-only route, you can finish the dungeon without finding it.

4. Descend towards the lower chambers

Return to the main route and continue down. Collect the visible cave materials, but keep your weapon ready. Demi-Humans can be positioned beyond the next corner, and the cave’s uneven ground makes lock-on movement less reliable than usual.

The lower sections include damp chambers and crystal deposits. Crystal Snails are less aggressive than the Demi-Humans but should still be killed rather than ignored, especially if you need time to explore the room.

5. Prepare for the boss

Continue through the lower route until you reach the fog door. Before entering, make sure you have collected any nearby corpses and crafting materials. There is no second Site of Grace immediately before the boss, so a death returns you to the entrance grace.

If you are using a summon, place it before entering the fog. The Bloodhound Knight’s speed makes a distraction particularly useful for characters with slow spells, charged attacks or large weapons.

6. Defeat the Bloodhound Knight

The safest general approach is to stay composed and punish the end of its attack strings. Avoid panic-rolling through every movement. The knight’s mobility is designed to make players waste stamina, and running out of stamina is more dangerous than taking a measured hit.

Once defeated, you receive the Cerulean Amber Medallion. This talisman increases maximum FP, making it especially useful for sorcerers, incantation users and builds that rely heavily on weapon skills.

7. Leave through the rear exit

After the boss, continue through the passage behind the arena rather than immediately fast-travelling away. The route exits to the Slumbering Wolf’s Shack area.

Activate the exterior grace, inspect the shack and speak to Latenna if her quest conditions have been met. This rear route is the main reason the cave matters beyond its rewards.

Items and collectibles

The following items are verified as part of the cave or its immediately associated route. Crafting materials can appear in several placements, so the table separates fixed rewards from gatherable resources.

Fixed items

The precise placement of minor corpse pickups is easy to obscure in the dark and may be described differently by route guides, but the item set is consistently associated with Lakeside Crystal Cave.

Gatherable materials

These are environmental or enemy-area pickups rather than unique rewards. Their value depends on the player’s crafting habits, and some may be more useful to collect on a first visit than to farm repeatedly.

Outside the cave

The following rewards belong to the connected Slumbering Wolf’s Shack and Latenna progression, not to the cave interior:

Do not list these as cave loot when documenting the dungeon itself. They are accessed through the cave, but they are obtained in the separate exterior area.

Progression and missability

Lakeside Crystal Cave is not locked behind a main-story boss, Great Rune or academy access requirement. It can be completed as soon as the player reaches southern Liurnia.

The cave’s boss reward remains available throughout the normal base-game progression. There is no known ordinary story transition that removes the Bloodhound Knight or permanently prevents the player from collecting the Cerulean Amber Medallion.

For safety, speak to Albus, obtain the right medallion half, clear the cave, activate the shack grace and speak to Latenna before making major progress in the later northern areas.

Lore and design notes

The cave’s most important narrative function is its connection between the southern Liurnia lake and Latenna’s secluded refuge. The dungeon’s hostile Demi-Humans and Bloodhound Knight contrast with the quiet shack outside, creating a small transition from danger to one of the game’s more personal NPC encounters.

Its crystal deposits are primarily environmental rather than evidence of an Academy-controlled mining operation. This distinguishes it from Academy Crystal Cave, where scholars, sorcerers and Crystalians occupy a site more directly tied to Raya Lucaria. Academy Crystal Cave is a separate Liurnia dungeon with a Crystalian duo and a different reward set, including Crystal Release and the Crystal Staff.

Lakeside Crystal Cave first appears in the base game of Elden Ring. It is not a location from Shadow of the Erdtree, and it should not be conflated with similarly named crystal caves elsewhere in the Lands Between.
