Key takeaways

  • Location A lift structure southwest of the First Mt. Gelmir Campsite Site of Grace, near the upper mountain route.
  • Main hazard Chariots patrol the lava slope and can kill or displace you. Treat the alcoves and wooden rafters as the real route, not merely hiding places.
  • Important optional loot The Ringed Finger is in a chest at the lower end of the first lava route.
  • Hidden combat reward A Bloodhound Knight in a side chamber drops the complete Bloodhound Knight Set.
  • Major collection reward The Gelmir Knight Set is found on a corpse in the lower Chariot section, while the Mantis Blade comes from a respawning Cemetery Shade.
  • Boss rewards The Red Wolf of the Champion gives 21,000 runes and the Bloodhound Knight Floh ashes. A chest beyond the boss contains Deathroot.

Note

Base game guide. This guide covers the dungeon named Gelmir Hero’s Grave itself, not the wider Mt. Gelmir region, Volcano Manor, Hermit Village, or the nearby First Mt. Gelmir Campsite. Those neighbouring locations have their own enemies, characters, loot and routes.

Overview

Gelmir Hero’s Grave is an optional Hero’s Grave dungeon in the highlands of Mt. Gelmir, within the Altus Plateau progression band. Its entrance lies close to the First Mt. Gelmir Campsite Site of Grace, on the mountain’s western route towards Volcano Manor. The dungeon is built around two hazards: a long lava-lined slope and the armoured Chariots that repeatedly patrol it. Unlike a conventional catacomb, much of the challenge comes from learning the movement pattern of the machinery, choosing the correct alcoves and recognising when the apparent dead ends are actually drops onto lower routes.

The dungeon culminates in the Red Wolf of the Champion, an optional boss. Completion rewards the Bloodhound Knight Floh spirit ash, while a chest in the boss arena contains Deathroot. Thorough exploration also yields two complete armour sets, the unusual Ringed Finger hammer, the Mantis Blade, a Stonesword Key and several spirit-upgrade materials.

Boundaries and neighbouring locations

What is included

This guide includes the dungeon entered through the stone structure near the First Mt. Gelmir Campsite, including:

What is not included

The First Mt. Gelmir Campsite is the most useful approach point, but it is not part of the Hero’s Grave. The wider Mt. Gelmir route has separate merchants, enemies, quests and landmarks.

What is not included: The following are nearby but separate

Geography and dungeon layout

Gelmir Hero’s Grave is a stone burial complex built into the volcanic mountainside. Its defining visual feature is the long central ramp, with lava flowing along either side. Chariots move up and down this ramp on a fixed patrol path. The dungeon is therefore less about fighting through every room and more about moving between safe spaces while the machinery passes.

The layout can be understood as five connected sections:

Some of the apparent branches are not traditional corridors. They are drops from ledges, rafters or the side of a moving Chariot. This is why the dungeon can seem to end abruptly if you only follow the obvious floor-level route.

Fixed layout, not procedural content

The dungeon’s architecture, item placements, Chariot routes and boss are fixed. Enemy drops such as armour pieces and the Mantis Blade are not random in the usual sense: they come from specific named enemies and are obtained in set locations. Ordinary crafting materials and some minor corpse loot are fixed pickups, although their importance is lower than the major equipment rewards.

Access and approach

From First Mt. Gelmir Campsite

The entrance is deliberately close to the campsite, but it is easy to mistake the surrounding mountain paths for part of the dungeon. The First Mt. Gelmir Campsite is the reliable navigation landmark.

There is no mandatory stat, key or quest requirement to enter. However, the following make the dungeon considerably safer:

Do not assume that high fire resistance makes the lava harmless. It gives you more time, but the lava remains a movement hazard and can trap you against a Chariot.

---

From First Mt. Gelmir Campsite

  1. 01
Travel to the First Mt. Gelmir Campsite Site of Grace.
  2. 02
Follow the mountain path west and slightly south-west.
  3. 03
Look for a stone building set into the mountainside.
  4. 04
Enter the structure and use the lift.
  5. 05
Activate the Gelmir Hero’s Grave Site of Grace at the bottom.

1. The entrance and first Chariot slope

After resting at the Site of Grace, proceed into the large sloping chamber. The first Chariot appears near the lower portion of the ramp. Skeletons occupy some of the side alcoves and may rush you as you move past.

The skeletons are often less dangerous than the Chariot itself. If one follows you into an alcove, finish it quickly, but do not remain outside simply to recover every dropped item. Some skeletons will be crushed by the Chariot if you lead them into its path.

First major branch

At the bottom of the first slope, look for side openings beside the lava route.

The Ringed Finger chest is easy to miss because the safest-looking response to the first Chariot is usually to keep moving onwards. The hammer is found in a side room at the bottom of the lava-lined section.

The safest general method is

  1. 01
    Watch the Chariot’s direction.
  2. 02
    Sprint to the nearest alcove.
  3. 03
    Let it pass.
  4. 04
Move to the next safe recess rather than trying to fight in the open.
  5. 05
Use the alcoves to break the skeletons’ line of attack.

2. Ringed Finger side room

At the bottom of the first lava route, enter the side room and open the chest to obtain Ringed Finger.

This is a unique hammer with the skill Claw Flick, which causes the enormous finger weapon to swell before striking forward. It requires 15 Strength and 9 Dexterity. The weapon is not required for dungeon progression, but it is one of Gelmir Hero’s Grave’s most distinctive rewards.

The side room is also useful as a temporary safe point. If you are collecting every item, search the nearby corpse and walls carefully, but do not confuse minor crafting materials with the major chest reward.

3. Fire-pillar and Page section

Continue through the stone passage until you reach a chamber with a fire pillar trap. The pillar can be disabled by striking it. Use a ranged attack if you prefer not to approach it directly.

This section contains undead enemies and Pages. Pages are dangerous at close range because they combine rapid attacks, ranged crossbow fire and sudden movement. Pull them into a doorway or deal with the ranged attacker first.

The route continues through the chamber and eventually brings you back towards another Chariot approach. Wait for the machinery to pass before leaving cover. A common mistake is to disable the fire pillar and immediately run forwards, only to be struck by the next Chariot in the adjoining passage.

4. The lower Chariot route

The dungeon’s most important secret route begins around the lower part of the lava section. Look for the wooden rafters and ledges above or beside the Chariot path.

There are two related ways to reach the lower area:

The Chariot in this section has a relatively flat rear platform. If you land on it, remain calm and avoid moving too early. Let it carry you along the route, then jump off at the appropriate lower section. This is risky, but it bypasses much of the exposed lava path.

Do not blindly jump from the first visible height. The useful drop is onto the Chariot or onto a lower platform, not directly into the lava.

5. Gelmir Knight Set

The Gelmir Knight Set is found on a corpse in the lower Chariot section. The set consists of:

The corpse is positioned along the lower route reached through the rafters and Chariot navigation. It is not obtained from a named NPC, merchant or boss. The set is one of the dungeon’s two complete armour collections.

6. Bloodhound Knight

A Bloodhound Knight guards a separate room below the Chariot route. This enemy is fast, aggressive and capable of closing distance rapidly. It uses attacks associated with the Bloodhound fighting style, including evasive movement and sweeping strikes.

Defeating this Bloodhound Knight gives the complete Bloodhound Knight Set:

This is a fixed reward associated with the Gelmir Hero’s Grave variant of the enemy. The knight is not the boss of the dungeon.

7. Cemetery Shade and Mantis Blade

Further through the lower section, you can encounter a Cemetery Shade. This enemy is associated with the grave’s undead and burial imagery, but it is not the final boss.

The Cemetery Shade can reappear after resting. Its first relevant defeat in this dungeon awards the Mantis Blade, a curved sword. The weapon is a fixed drop rather than a random treasure chest item. The Shade’s high mobility and ability to obscure itself can make the encounter awkward in the narrow passage, so use quick attacks, holy damage or strong stagger pressure where available.

The surrounding section also contains Grave Glovewort and additional minor loot.

8. Red Wolf of the Champion

The final mist gate leads to the optional boss, Red Wolf of the Champion.

This is a variant of the Red Wolf enemy encountered elsewhere in the game. It is highly mobile, uses magical projectiles and can create a sword for close-range attacks. The arena is more open than the dungeon’s corridors, giving you room to circle, sprint and reposition.

Practical boss advice

The Red Wolf of the Champion has 3,162 HP and awards 21,000 runes. Defeating it gives Bloodhound Knight Floh.

After the fight, search the rear of the arena for a chest containing Deathroot. This is one of the fixed Deathroot placements in the base game and can be given to Gurranq, Beast Clergyman at the Bestial Sanctum.

---

The following names are the verified major pickups and equipment associated with the dungeon. Minor materials are listed separately because guides vary in whether they count every corpse pickup, plant and crafting item in their headline totals.

Equipment and unique rewards

Spirit-upgrade materials

Published item directories differ in how they count the repeated Grave Glovewort pickups. The broader directory records two Grave Glovewort [6] pickups, several Grave Glovewort [7] pickups and one Ghost Glovewort [7], while route guides commonly describe the plants by the order in which they are encountered.

Other fixed loot

These are secondary to the equipment rewards, but they are useful to collect if you are completing the dungeon rather than rushing to the boss.

---

Ordinary enemies

The Chariots are environmental enemies with fixed patrol behaviour rather than ordinary combat encounters. Skeletons can be permanently defeated only after striking their remains again when they fall, unless you use suitable holy damage or another effect that prevents revival.

The dungeon’s confirmed enemy types include

Named enemies and bosses

The Bloodhound Knight’s reward is not the Bloodhound Claws. That weapon belongs to a different Bloodhound Knight encounter in Volcano Manor. The Gelmir Hero’s Grave enemy instead provides the armour set.

Gelmir Hero’s Grave Site of Grace

The dungeon has one Site of Grace, located immediately after the entrance lift. It is the primary checkpoint for the entire area.

The boss arena is not a separate Site of Grace. Once the boss is defeated, you can teleport from the area normally, making it practical to leave side items until after the fight if the Chariot sections are proving costly.

---

Hero’s Graves are burial dungeons associated with notable warriors and champions. Gelmir Hero’s Grave reflects the identity of Mt. Gelmir through its combination of volcanic terrain, Gelmir military equipment and beast-like guardians.

The Gelmir Knight Set links the dungeon to knights who served in the region, while the Bloodhound Knight represents the independent hunter-warrior tradition associated with Bloodhound Knights. The spirit ash description of Floh calls him the “Rabid Stray”, a knight who vowed to serve a true king but never found one. That description gives the reward a stronger narrative identity than a generic spirit summon.

The presence of the Red Wolf is also thematically consistent with the game’s wider use of wolves as guardians, companions and champions’ beasts. The boss is not the Red Wolf of Radagon, and the two encounters should not be treated as the same named character or story event.

The dungeon’s lava is not simply scenery. It turns the Hero’s Grave into a test of movement, patience and route recognition. In practical terms, it is a volcanic variation on the Chariot-based design seen in other Hero’s Graves, but with a more dangerous floor layout.

For a first complete clear, use this order:

This route avoids treating the dungeon as a straight corridor. The most valuable rewards are deliberately placed away from the obvious boss path.

Is Gelmir Hero’s Grave required to reach Volcano Manor?

No. It is an optional dungeon. It is located near the route to Volcano Manor, but completing it is not required for the Volcano Manor questline or for reaching the manor.

Do I need a Stonesword Key to enter?

No. The entrance is open and the lift takes you directly to the Site of Grace. A Stonesword Key is found as loot inside the dungeon.

Can the Chariots be destroyed?

The Chariots in Gelmir Hero’s Grave are treated as hazards to evade. The special Chariot-destruction reward associated with Holy Ground belongs to Auriza Hero’s Grave, not Gelmir Hero’s Grave.

Where is the Ringed Finger?

It is in a chest in a side room at the bottom of the first lava-lined ramp. Follow the lower route rather than continuing directly towards the fire-pillar section.

Where is the Bloodhound Knight Set?

A Bloodhound Knight guards the set in a lower side room reached through the rafters and Chariot section. Defeating that enemy gives the set.

Is the Red Wolf of the Champion the same as the Red Wolf of Radagon?

No. They are separate encounters. The Gelmir boss is an optional Red Wolf variant with its own location and reward.

What do I do with Deathroot?

Give it to Gurranq at the Bestial Sanctum. Deathroot is part of the Bestial Clergyman’s reward sequence and can be collected from several fixed locations, including the chest after this boss.
