Key takeaways

  • Perfumer’s Ruins stands in the Altus Plateau, north-west of the Abandoned Coffin Site of Grace.
  • There is no Site of Grace or boss inside the ruins.
  • The main rewards are Perfumer’s Cookbook [1], Perfume Bottles, Perfumer’s Talisman and the Omenkiller Set.
  • The Omenkiller’s armour drop is fixed, but the location is not a conventional boss fight.
  • The nearby Unsightly Catacombs are a separate dungeon and should be explored independently.
  • The ruins are a useful early source of perfume-related equipment once the player reaches Altus Plateau.

About this guide

Scope: Elden Ring base game, including the post-release base-game map revisions. Status: Researched guide. Perfumer’s Ruins is a small open-world ruin site, not a legacy dungeon, cave, catacomb or boss arena.

Overview

Perfumer’s Ruins is a compact ruin complex in the south-western Altus Plateau. It is occupied by hostile Perfumers, Miranda plants and an Omenkiller, and contains several items connected with Elden Ring’s perfume-crafting system. The site has no Site of Grace, no dungeon entrance, no named boss and no NPC quest encounter. Its importance comes from the concentration of useful perfume equipment and from the Omenkiller’s fixed armour drop.

The ruins are easy to mistake for part of the nearby Unsightly Catacombs, but they are separate locations. The catacombs lie nearby and have their own entrance, dungeon layout and boss encounter. They should not be counted as subareas of Perfumer’s Ruins.

Location and boundaries

Perfumer’s Ruins is a small cluster of broken stone buildings and courtyards in the southern part of the Altus Plateau. The most reliable approach is from the Abandoned Coffin Site of Grace. Travel north-west through the surrounding valley and look for the ruined buildings and Miranda growth.

The site’s practical boundary is the ruin cluster itself:

The nearby Unsightly Catacombs should not be included within this boundary. They are a separate underground dungeon located close to the ruins, with their own entrance and boss. The Ruin-Strewn Precipice is also a distinct dungeon, although later map revisions added an exit route that leads towards the Perfumer’s Ruins area.

Named places within or directly relevant to the site

The last three are neighbouring or connected locations, not subareas of the ruins.

Geography and layout

The ruins are built on uneven ground, with collapsed walls creating several sightlines between the lower approach, the central courtyard and the upper rubble. Miranda plants occupy parts of the site, while the Omenkiller is positioned in the principal combat area.

The layout is small enough to clear quickly, but its verticality makes a straight run unreliable. Some of the most valuable items are not in the first room encountered. A thorough search should include:

The northern cellar is especially easy to overlook. Break the wooden covering, descend the steps and open the chest inside to obtain the Perfumer’s Talisman.

Access and routes

From Abandoned Coffin

This is the simplest route for most characters.

The site is close enough to the Abandoned Coffin that it can be treated as a short optional detour during a normal Altus Plateau exploration route. Game8 identifies the ruins as lying north-west of Abandoned Coffin, while the Japanese location guide likewise places them north-west of that grace.

From Ruin-Strewn Precipice

Players reaching the Altus Plateau through the Ruin-Strewn Precipice may encounter a route leading towards the ruins. A later map revision added an elevator exit associated with this connection. This is a regional connection rather than an internal entrance to Perfumer’s Ruins, and the Precipice remains a separate dungeon.

Residents and enemies

Perfumer’s Ruins has no friendly residents, merchants or named NPCs. Its occupants are hostile enemies associated with the Perfumer tradition and the Miranda plant family.

Enemy directory

The location is described as being occupied by Perfumers, an Omenkiller and numerous Miranda plants.

Perfumers

The Perfumers use aromatic attacks rather than conventional melee weapons. Their most recognisable attack sends a combustible powder or spark across the ground or through the air. They can also use an aromatic buff that strengthens nearby allies and creates a protective effect.

In this location they are ordinary enemies, not a named encounter. Their possible drops include parts of the Perfumer clothing set, Altus Bloom, Miranda Powder and other enemy-associated materials. Drop rates and exact quantities are not guaranteed, so these should be treated as random enemy drops rather than fixed loot.

Miranda plants

Miranda plants create area denial through poison or explosive floral attacks. Their attacks are particularly dangerous when the player is also fighting the Omenkiller, since the plants can interrupt healing or force the player into the Omenkiller’s range.

Clear the plants from the approach where possible. Ranged attacks, jump attacks and attacks with broad arcs are useful for removing them without standing directly in their effect zones.

Omenkiller

The Omenkiller is the most dangerous enemy in the ruins. It fights with paired cleavers and can apply heavy pressure at close range. Its attacks are capable of staggering an incautious player, while the surrounding plants can make retreat difficult.

The Omenkiller is not presented as a named boss here. There is no boss fog, arena title or remembrance reward. Nevertheless, killing it is worthwhile because it provides the location’s principal armour reward.

Loot and collectibles

Fixed loot directory

The confirmed notable loot includes the cookbook, perfume bottles, Perfumer’s Talisman and Omenkiller Set. The location guide specifically identifies a Perfume Bottle in the central room and the talisman in the northern cellar. The Japanese guide also places a Perfume Bottle and Perfumer’s Cookbook [1] near the Omenkiller, with another Perfume Bottle in the upper ruins.

Perfumer’s Cookbook [1]

The cookbook is found in the central ruin area, near the Omenkiller and the main group of enemies. It expands the player’s perfume-crafting options, including the recipe associated with Spark Aromatic.

Because perfume recipes require reusable Perfume Bottles, collecting the bottles in the same location makes the ruins particularly useful for players beginning to experiment with the crafting system. The bottles are reusable containers rather than single-use consumables, so obtaining them increases the number of perfume items that can be carried and prepared.

Perfume Bottles

Two Perfume Bottles are associated with the ruins:

The central bottle is easy to collect during the first fight, but the upper bottle requires a more deliberate vertical search. Do not leave after collecting the cookbook and defeating the Omenkiller without checking the raised ruins.

Perfumer’s Talisman

The Perfumer’s Talisman is in a chest inside the northern cellar. The cellar is concealed beneath wooden planks, so it is not immediately visible as a normal doorway.

The talisman increases the effectiveness of perfume items, making it one of the most relevant rewards for a build that uses Spark Aromatic, Uplifting Aromatic or other perfume consumables.

Omenkiller Set

The Omenkiller drops the Omenkiller Set. The set consists of:

The Japanese guide records the Omenkiller in the ruins as a source of the robe, long gloves and boots, while the broader item and enemy references associate the Omenkiller Set with this encounter. The drop is a fixed encounter reward rather than a random clothing drop from ordinary Perfumers.

Crafting materials and random drops

The ruins also contain or can yield materials connected with its enemies and vegetation:

These should be separated from the named fixed loot. Some are environmental pickups, while others can come from enemy drops. Their presence and quantity may differ depending on the individual enemy or plant defeated, and they are not substitutes for the fixed cookbook, talisman or bottle placements.

Perfumer’s Talisman: To acquire it

  1. 01
Reach the northernmost part of the ruin complex.
  2. 02
Look for the wooden covering over the cellar.
  3. 03
    Break the planks.
  4. 04
    Descend the steps.
  5. 05
    Open the chest.

Combat walkthrough

Before entering

The ruins do not require a key, seal or quest state. A character capable of surviving ordinary Altus Plateau enemies can enter freely. Consider carrying:

There is no Site of Grace inside, so rest at Abandoned Coffin before beginning if your flasks or spell charges are depleted.

Clearing the central ruin

Approach from outside and identify the Miranda plants first. If you rush directly towards the item, the Omenkiller and plants can attack together. Pulling enemies out one at a time is safer than fighting in the centre of the ruin.

Once the area is secure, collect the item by the table and search the central room for the cookbook and first Perfume Bottle.

Searching the upper ruins

The upper section is not a separate dungeon level. It is part of the same open ruin complex, reached by climbing broken masonry and using the uneven terrain. Search the roofline and raised rubble rather than assuming all loot is on ground level.

The second Perfume Bottle is found in this higher section. Its position is one reason the ruins are worth revisiting after the initial fight, particularly if the player is following a checklist and has found only one bottle.

Northern cellar

The cellar is the final essential stop. Wooden planks conceal its opening, and striking them reveals the descent. The chest at the bottom contains the Perfumer’s Talisman. This is the most easily missed fixed item in the location.

Nearby connections

Unsightly Catacombs

The Unsightly Catacombs are the nearest major point of interest. They are located close to the ruins but are not part of them. The catacombs have their own underground layout and a boss encounter involving Perfumer Tricia and a Misbegotten Warrior.

This distinction matters because Perfumer’s Ruins has no boss, while Unsightly Catacombs does. A route guide that describes the two as one continuous location is combining separate map entries.

Abandoned Coffin

Abandoned Coffin is the nearest convenient Site of Grace and the standard staging point for visiting the ruins. It is also useful for resetting the area when farming Perfumer equipment or replenishing resources.

Ruin-Strewn Precipice

Ruin-Strewn Precipice is a separate dungeon and an alternative regional route into Altus Plateau. Its later exit connection can make the ruins appear to be part of the Precipice’s exterior route, but the two remain distinct locations.

Perfumer’s Grotto

Perfumer’s Grotto is another separate Perfumer-related location in Altus Plateau. It should not be merged with Perfumer’s Ruins simply because both contain Perfumers. Location names in Elden Ring can indicate a shared theme or occupation without defining one continuous subarea.

Lore and significance

The ruins illustrate the transformation of the Perfumers from respected apothecaries into armed participants in the wars of the Shattering. Perfumer descriptions connect them with Leyndell and with the production of aromatic mixtures, poisons and combat-enhancing compounds. Their equipment presents perfuming as both medicine and weaponcraft.

The presence of an Omenkiller alongside Perfumers is also thematically significant. Omenkillers are associated with the persecution of Omen, while Perfumer lore includes figures who attempted to treat those regarded as impure. The ruins therefore show two very different responses to bodily difference and social exclusion placed in the same hostile encampment, although the game does not explicitly identify the relationship between this particular Omenkiller and the resident Perfumers. The connection is suggestive, not a confirmed character-specific story.

The site’s vegetation reinforces the contrast between cultivated aromatic practice and uncontrolled plant growth. Miranda plants appear throughout areas associated with perfuming, and their materials feed into the same broader crafting ecosystem as Perfume Bottles and cookbooks.
