Key takeaways
- The Second Church of Marika lies in the Altus Plateau, north-west of the Altus Highway Junction Site of Grace.
- The church contains a fixed Sacred Tear, used to improve the amount restored by the Flask of Crimson Tears and Flask of Cerulean Tears.
- If Yura’s quest has reached this stage, speak to the dying Yura inside the church to obtain Nagakiba.
- Shortly afterwards, Eleonora, Violet Bloody Finger invades Defeating her grants Eleonora’s Poleblade and the Purifying Crystal Tear.
- If the relevant Yura progression has not been triggered, a Sanguine Noble can occupy the church instead of the expected Yura event.
- The church has no grace or service facility, so use the Altus Highway Junction Site of Grace as the practical staging point.
Note
Base game location guide. This page covers the Second Church of Marika itself and its immediate churchyard in the Altus Plateau. It does not treat the wider Altus Plateau, Mirage Rise, the Altus Highway Junction, or the Grand Lift of Dectus as subareas of the church. Those are neighbouring locations and route connections only.
Overview
The Second Church of Marika is a small ruined church in the northern-central Altus Plateau. It is easy to mistake it for a simple Sacred Tear stop, but its real importance is tied to Bloody Finger Hunter Yura’s quest, the invasion by Eleonora, Violet Bloody Finger, and the Purifying Crystal Tear, one of the most useful preparation items for Mohg, Lord of Blood.
The church has no Site of Grace, merchant, smithing facility, dungeon entrance or permanent friendly settlement. Its contents are concentrated in a compact area: a Sacred Tear at the statue, quest-state NPC encounters inside the ruin, several minor materials around the churchyard, and a potentially dangerous invasion.
The church is also one of the game’s clearest examples of a location whose occupants depend on progression. The same building can contain Yura, Eleonora’s invasion, or a Sanguine Noble depending on the player’s quest progress and wider advancement.
Location boundaries and neighbouring places
The Second Church of Marika is a discrete landmark rather than a broad region. Its included area consists of:
The following are connected locations, not subareas of the church:
This distinction matters because guides sometimes describe the church as part of a general “northern Altus” route while folding nearby landmarks into the same area. The church itself is much smaller and has no internal dungeon branches.
Reaching the church
From the Grand Lift of Dectus
After using the Grand Lift of Dectus, follow the main Altus road to the Altus Highway Junction Site of Grace. From there, travel north-west along the plateau roads and fields. The church is visible as a ruined stone structure set away from the principal road. Several guides identify it as north-west of the Altus Highway Junction.
This is the most direct route for players who entered Altus Plateau through the lift.
From the Ruin-Strewn Precipice
Players who reached the plateau by climbing through the Ruin-Strewn Precipice can travel across the plateau towards the Altus road network. Once the Altus Highway Junction has been discovered, use it as the reference point rather than trying to navigate directly across the fields.
Recommended approach
The church is open and has no loading-screen transition. Approach on Torrent, circle the outside once, and check for hostile encounters before dismounting. If the Yura event is active, the main danger begins inside or immediately around the building after speaking to him.
Main walkthrough
1. Enter the churchyard
Search the outside perimeter first. The churchyard contains minor materials and may contain a hostile stray. Do not assume that the church is safe simply because it is a religious landmark.
2. Collect the Sacred Tear
Inside the ruin, approach the statue of Marika and collect the Sacred Tear. At any Site of Grace, use Sacred Tears to increase the amount restored by your Crimson and Cerulean Flasks. This item is fixed, not a random drop.
3. Check Yura’s quest state
If you have progressed Yura’s storyline through the earlier encounters, Yura appears inside the church in a dying state. Speak to him and exhaust his dialogue. After the event, his Nagakiba becomes available.
Yura’s earlier storyline involves meeting him in Limgrave, dealing with Bloody Finger Nerijus, and helping him against Bloody Finger Ravenmount Assassin near the Academy of Raya Lucaria. Guides consistently place the Second Church event after those earlier stages.
4. Prepare for Eleonora
After Yura’s death, Eleonora, Violet Bloody Finger invades. She uses fast twinblade attacks, fire and bleed pressure, and can punish healing or slow attacks. Create distance before committing to long animations, and avoid fighting with your back against the church walls.
The Purifying Crystal Tear is mixed into the Flask of Wondrous Physick. Its principal use is to counter the blood-curse ritual used by Mohg, Lord of Blood, greatly reducing the otherwise severe damage and blood-loss effect during that encounter.
5. If Yura is absent
If Yura does not appear, do not immediately conclude that the location is empty or broken. The church’s encounter is progression-sensitive. Depending on the state of the quest and the player’s wider advancement, a Sanguine Noble may appear instead. Eleonora can also be encountered later at her associated location if the normal timing of Yura’s quest has been passed.
Residents, visitors and hostile encounters
Bloody Finger Hunter Yura
Yura is a quest-associated visitor rather than a permanent resident of the church. His appearance here represents the final stage of his own independent storyline before his body is later used by Shabriri.
At the church, Yura is found fatally wounded. Speaking to him is important because:
Named character directory
Eleonora, Violet Bloody Finger
Eleonora is an NPC invader associated with the Bloody Fingers and the conclusion of Yura’s hunt. She does not function as a resident, merchant or normal field enemy. Her appearance is an event encounter that depends on progression.
Eleonora’s invasion can be missed at the church as a timed quest-state event, but the Purifying Crystal Tear remains associated with her later encounter if the quest has advanced beyond the church in the relevant way. The exact trigger can vary according to the order in which the player completes Yura’s encounters and reaches the Mountaintops of the Giants.
Sanguine Noble
The Sanguine Noble is a hostile NPC encounter that can occupy the church when the Yura-related state has not produced the normal sequence. It is not a shopkeeper, faction representative who offers services, or permanent local resident.
Players should distinguish this encounter from Eleonora. The Sanguine Noble does not replace Eleonora’s unique rewards in the normal progression sequence. Community reports and location references repeatedly warn that confusing the two can lead to players believing that the Purifying Crystal Tear has been lost.
Ordinary enemies
The church’s ordinary enemy population is small. The commonly documented entries are:
The Rotten Stray is a normal hostile creature rather than a boss or named NPC. The Sanguine Noble and Eleonora are event-based humanoid encounters.
Eleonora, Violet Bloody Finger: Her rewards are particularly valuable
| Reward | Use |
|---|---|
| Eleonora’s Poleblade | Unique twinblade weapon with bleed-oriented attacks |
| Purifying Crystal Tear | Flask of Wondrous Physick component that counters Mohg’s blood ritual |
Items and collectibles
Fixed items
The Sacred Tear is independent of the invasion and should be available as a standard church collectible. The Nagakiba, Poleblade and Purifying Crystal Tear are tied to quest or invasion states rather than lying in ordinary chests.
Materials
The immediate churchyard is documented as containing minor overworld crafting materials, including:
These are ordinary gathering materials and should not be confused with guaranteed quest rewards. Their availability is separate from the Sacred Tear and NPC events.
Fixed items
| Item | Location | Acquisition | Importance |
|---|---|---|---|
| Sacred Tear | By the statue inside the church | Pick it up directly | Improves Flask healing |
| Nagakiba | Church interior after Yura’s event | Speak to Yura, then collect it after his death | Long katana associated with Yura |
| Eleonora’s Poleblade | Reward from Eleonora | Defeat Eleonora, Violet Bloody Finger | Unique twinblade |
| Purifying Crystal Tear | Reward from Eleonora | Defeat Eleonora | Counters Mohg’s blood ritual |
Buildings, facilities and services
The Second Church of Marika contains only a ruined chapel and statue.
Not present
The church’s name does not imply that it provides a church-specific service beyond the standard Sacred Tear collectible. It is not equivalent to a hub such as Roundtable Hold, nor does it function as a healing or upgrade centre.
Factions and lore context
The building belongs to the group of ruined churches dedicated to Queen Marika. In practical terms, its condition reflects the wider collapse of established order across the Lands Between. It is a religious landmark without clergy, worshippers or functioning administration.
The church’s strongest narrative association is not with a local Altus faction but with the Bloody Fingers and their opponents. Yura’s presence connects the site to his long pursuit of Bloody Finger members, while Eleonora’s arrival turns the ruined chapel into the final confrontation point of that hunt.
This also creates an important thematic contrast. The church is nominally a place dedicated to Marika, yet its central event concerns blood, invasion, failed vengeance and the influence of the Lord of Blood. The location’s gameplay rewards reinforce that connection: Eleonora’s Poleblade uses blood loss, while the Purifying Crystal Tear exists specifically to resist Mohg’s blood ritual.
Missable content and progression states
If you want Nagakiba
Progress Yura’s quest before moving too far into the late game. The commonly documented route is:
If the quest has been advanced or skipped, the weapon can appear at a different associated location rather than being permanently destroyed, but its exact placement depends on the stage reached.
If you want the Purifying Crystal Tear
Defeat Eleonora. The church is the normal location for the invasion during Yura’s quest, but Eleonora’s encounter can move to a later state if the player reaches the Mountaintops of the Giants before completing the church event.
If Eleonora does not appear
Do not treat the absence of Yura as proof that the game has no further event. The Yura sequence is state-based and can be disrupted by completing later progression first.
If you want Nagakiba
- 01Meet Yura in Limgrave.
- 02Deal with Bloody Finger Nerijus.
- 03Assist Yura near the Academy of Raya Lucaria.
- 04Speak to Yura after that encounter.
- 05Visit the Second Church of Marika.
- 06Speak to the dying Yura.
- 07Collect Nagakiba after the event.
Combat advice: Eleonora
Eleonora is dangerous because she combines mobility, rapid attacks and bleed buildup.
The invasion is not a conventional boss fight. Eleonora has the behaviour and limitations of an NPC invader, so spacing, terrain and healing windows matter more than learning a fixed arena sequence.
Suggested exploration route
For a first visit, the following order minimises backtracking:
Suggested exploration route: steps
- 01Start at Altus Highway Junction.
- 02Ride north-west towards the church.
- 03Circle the exterior and collect visible materials.
- 04Enter and take the Sacred Tear.
- 05If Yura is present, restock and prepare before speaking to him.
- 06Speak to Yura and collect Nagakiba after the dialogue event.
- 07Defeat Eleonora when she invades.
- 08Collect Eleonora’s Poleblade and Purifying Crystal Tear.
- 09Return to a Site of Grace to allocate the Sacred Tear and mix the new Crystal Tear into the Flask of Wondrous Physick.
- 10Continue towards the wider northern Altus landmarks, treating Mirage Rise, Windmill Village and Shaded Castle as separate destinations.
