Note
Base game location guide. This page covers the Divine Tower of Liurnia itself and the route required to reach it through the Carian Study Hall. The Study Hall is treated as the access dungeon rather than silently being merged into the tower’s boundaries.
Overview
The Divine Tower of Liurnia is an optional landmark on the eastern edge of Liurnia of the Lakes. It stands beyond the Carian Study Hall, connected to that building by a long bridge. Unlike the other Divine Towers, it does not restore a Great Rune. Instead, its summit contains the original body of Ranni the Witch, along with the Cursemark of Death and the Stargazer Heirloom talisman.
Reaching the tower is part of the middle section of Ranni’s questline. The necessary key item, the Carian Inverted Statue, is obtained after giving Ranni the Fingerslayer Blade from Nokron, Eternal City. Placing the statue in the Carian Study Hall changes that building into its inverted form and opens the route to the tower bridge.
The tower is also important to Fia’s questline. The Cursemark of Death is needed to advance Fia’s story in Deeproot Depths and is associated with the Age of the Duskborn ending route. It is not necessary to visit the tower to finish the main story, and the tower is not required to activate Rennala’s Great Rune.
Boundaries and included areas
The name Divine Tower of Liurnia is used for the tower complex east of the Carian Study Hall, but the practical route includes several distinct spaces:
The Carian Study Hall is a separate dungeon in the game’s location structure, even though it is indispensable to reaching the tower. It has its own Site of Grace, enemies and rewards. The tower should therefore not be described as containing all Study Hall loot.

Geography and visual design
The tower stands on a rocky projection on Liurnia’s eastern coast, north of Jarburg and beyond the Study Hall. Its bridge gives a broad view back towards the lake and the surrounding cliffs. The building’s scale and isolated position make it visible from parts of eastern Liurnia, although its entrance is not available from the overworld.
The tower’s architecture follows the wider Divine Tower design: a massive, ancient stone structure with a tall central shaft, exterior ledges and a large lift. Unlike the towers linked to Godrick, Radahn, Morgott, Rykard and Malenia, Liurnia’s tower has no pair of Two Fingers waiting to receive a Great Rune. Its summit instead presents a dead, burned figure connected to Ranni’s discarded flesh.
Access requirements
The tower cannot be reached by riding around the eastern coast, jumping from the cliffs or approaching the bridge from the lake. The bridge is opened from inside the inverted Carian Study Hall.
The route is therefore not available at the beginning of the game, even if the player can reach eastern Liurnia early. The statue is the progression lock.

Route walkthrough
1. Reach the Carian Study Hall
The Study Hall is on the eastern side of Liurnia, north of Jarburg. The entrance is a large white building set against the cliffs. Its initial Site of Grace is Study Hall Entrance.
In its normal form, the hall contains the first confrontation with Preceptor Miriam. This encounter is not strictly required for opening the tower route, but the area must be revisited after the statue is obtained.
2. Invert the Study Hall
Return to the entrance hall and use the Carian Inverted Statue on the pedestal beside the celestial globe. A short transformation sequence changes the building’s layout and opens a new path through the structure.
The inverted Study Hall is not merely a visual alteration. It has different traversal routes, enemies and loot. The player moves across rafters, ledges and inverted architectural features before reaching the tower-side lift.
3. Deal with Preceptor Miriam
Preceptor Miriam appears again in the inverted version of the Study Hall. She uses long-range sorceries, teleports around the room and is supported by hostile spectral or puppet enemies. Her attacks are particularly dangerous because the arena encourages movement along narrow beams and platforms.
A reliable approach is to take the route slowly, remove nearby supporting enemies where possible and attack Miriam while she is committed to a spell. Ranged weapons and spells can reduce the risk of chasing her across the rafters, but melee characters can also force the encounter by using cover, ladders and the arena’s lower platforms.
Defeating her in the inverted Study Hall grants Lucidity. This is separate from the reward for defeating her in the standard version, which is Magic Downpour.
4. Reach the lift to the bridge
Continue through the inverted building, dropping carefully between the rafters and lower platforms. The route includes small Fingercreepers, giant rats and puppet soldiers depending on the section being crossed. The most dangerous combination is often not one individual enemy but the pressure created by ranged attacks while the player is balancing on narrow walkways.
At the lower section, enter the lift and descend towards the door leading to the tower bridge. This doorway is the practical boundary between the Study Hall and the Divine Tower route.
5. Cross Liurnia Tower Bridge
The bridge is long, exposed and comparatively simple to navigate. Its major threat is the Godskin Noble. The player can fight it or run past it towards the tower entrance. The bridge Site of Grace, Liurnia Tower Bridge, becomes available after reaching this section and provides a useful recovery point before attempting the tower.
If you are under-levelled or poorly equipped for the Godskin Noble, sprinting past is a valid option. The encounter is not required to obtain the tower’s summit rewards, although defeating the Noble makes future crossings safer.
6. Enter the tower and use the lift
Enter the tower at the far end of the bridge. The main entrance contains a large lift. Ride it upwards, then follow the interior stairs and platforms until you reach the tower’s upper chamber. The Divine Tower of Liurnia Site of Grace is found after using the tower’s lift.
The tower’s interior is less labyrinthine than the inverted Study Hall. Its danger comes from the Godskin Noble encounter and the possibility of falling while moving around the upper structure.
7. Search the summit
At the top, inspect the body associated with Ranni. The two key rewards are obtained in this summit area:
The Cursemark is a key item, while the Stargazer Heirloom is a talisman that raises Intelligence. The tower’s summit has no Great Rune restoration interaction.
Residents, characters and factions
The tower is not a settlement and has no ordinary residents, merchants or service providers. Its occupants are connected to Carian history, the Two Fingers and the consequences of the Night of Black Knives.
Ranni the Witch
Ranni is not encountered alive at the tower. The summit contains her original body, which bears the evidence of the ritual involving the stolen Rune of Death. The discovery helps explain the separation between Ranni’s spirit and her discarded flesh.
Ranni’s quest is the access route, but visiting the tower is not the final step of that quest. It is one of the locations that reveals her history and links her actions to the wider Death-related plot.
Preceptor Miriam
Miriam belongs to the Carian Study Hall rather than the Divine Tower proper. She is included here because defeating her in the inverted Study Hall is part of the practical route to the tower and rewards Lucidity.
She is not a conventional field NPC. Once hostile, she functions as a magical invader-style encounter, repeatedly teleporting and attacking from a distance.
Godskin Noble
The Godskin Noble guards the tower bridge. It is the major combat encounter immediately before the tower. The fight is optional in the sense that the player can run around it, but it is the principal enemy associated with the tower’s access route.
Named directory: characters and enemies
The Study Hall’s standard and inverted forms do not contain exactly the same enemy groups. The standard form includes puppet nobles, while the inverted form includes Cuckoo Soldier puppets and small Fingercreepers.
Items and collectibles
Cursemark of Death
The Cursemark of Death is the tower’s most important item. It is found at the summit on Ranni’s original body. It is required for the relevant portion of Fia’s questline and contributes to the route leading towards the Age of the Duskborn ending.
To use it in that storyline, progress Fia’s quest until she is in Deeproot Depths, then give her the Cursemark when the dialogue option becomes available. The tower itself does not award an ending, but the item found here is a necessary part of that ending route.
Stargazer Heirloom
The Stargazer Heirloom is a talisman found at the same summit. It raises Intelligence and is particularly useful for early and mid-game Intelligence builds, although its value depends on the player’s existing talisman slots and attribute spread.
Access-route rewards
Some rewards belong to the Carian Study Hall and should not be counted as tower loot:
The distinction matters because the tower itself has a short reward list, while the route through the Study Hall has several additional items.

Checkpoints and facilities
The first is positioned on the bridge route before the tower. The second is inside the tower after the lift. Neither Site of Grace provides a unique service. They function as respawn, healing, fast-travel and progression checkpoints.
There are no merchants, smithing tables, cooking vendors, summoning pools or other shops within the tower complex. The Carian Study Hall likewise has no shop or resident service provider. Its value is entirely in its enemies, loot and access function.

Hazards and practical advice
Ranged pressure in the Study Hall
Preceptor Miriam’s sorceries are the main reason the Study Hall feels more dangerous than its enemy count suggests. Do not sprint blindly across the rafters while she has line of sight. Use pillars, walls and changes in elevation to break her attacks.
Magic resistance can help, especially for characters who are not comfortable fighting from a distance. The Study Hall’s enemy placements and spell pressure are documented as the area’s defining hazards.
Narrow platforms and fall damage
The inverted Study Hall uses thin beams, hanging structures and steep drops. Camera movement can make it difficult to judge a landing, particularly when an enemy is attacking from outside the player’s view. Clear an area before attempting a difficult drop whenever possible.
Godskin Noble
The Godskin Noble has strong close-range pressure, wide attacks and a rolling attack that can cover much of the bridge. If you fight it, leave enough room to manoeuvre and avoid being trapped against the tower entrance.
If the aim is simply to collect the tower’s items, run past the Noble, activate the tower’s Site of Grace and return later. The bridge remains accessible, and the reward at the summit does not depend on defeating the Noble.
Optional Miriam rewards
The two versions of Preceptor Miriam award different items. If you defeat her only in the standard Study Hall, you will not receive Lucidity. If you want both rewards, defeat her in the standard form before or after obtaining the statue, then defeat her again in the inverted form.
Lore and progression
The Divine Tower of Liurnia is unusual among the Divine Towers because its narrative function outweighs its mechanical one. Divine Towers normally restore the power of Great Runes taken from major shardbearers. Liurnia’s tower has no such restoration interaction. Instead, it exposes the physical evidence of Ranni’s plan and the Night of Black Knives.
Ranni’s discarded body and the Cursemark connect several story threads:
The tower is therefore best understood as a quest-lore landmark, not as a conventional reward dungeon. Its apparent similarity to the other Divine Towers is deliberate, but its contents reveal that it serves a different story purpose.
