This guide covers the base game of Elden Ring, not Shadow of the Erdtree or Elden Ring Nightreign. It treats Dragon-Burnt Ruins as the named ruin location itself, while separating nearby Agheel Lake and the Sellia Crystal Tunnel destination reached through its transporter trap.
Introduction
Dragon-Burnt Ruins is a small but unusually important ruin complex in central Agheel Lake, Limgrave. At first glance it appears to be little more than a scorched settlement occupied by Wandering Nobles, rats and stray dogs. In practice, it contains one of Elden Ring’s earliest useful weapons, a Stonesword Key, crafting materials, and a transporter trap that can unexpectedly send a new character across the map to Sellia Crystal Tunnel in Caelid.
The ruins are also closely associated with Flying Dragon Agheel, but Agheel’s boss arena is the open lake around the settlement rather than a separate interior dungeon beneath the ruins. The dragon’s arrival is triggered in the wider Agheel Lake area, and it should not be confused with the ordinary enemies that permanently inhabit Dragon-Burnt Ruins itself.
Location and boundaries
Dragon-Burnt Ruins occupies a cluster of collapsed stone buildings and courtyards on the lakebed of Agheel Lake. It is in the central part of Limgrave, east of the Stranded Graveyard and south-east of the early-game route through Gatefront. The lake is shallow enough to cross on foot or with Torrent, so no key, quest or dungeon entrance is needed to reach the ruin.
For the purposes of this guide, the location includes:
It does not include every point of interest around Agheel Lake. The following are neighbouring or connected places rather than subareas of Dragon-Burnt Ruins:
This distinction matters because some walkthroughs fold the dragon fight and Yura’s summon sign into their Dragon-Burnt Ruins coverage even though neither is physically located inside the ruin complex. Yura’s summon sign is associated with the Agheel encounter and is found under a ruin south of the lake, not in Dragon-Burnt Ruins itself.
Nearby or connected places, outside the strict boundary
The two cellars are functional subareas, but the game does not give them separate canonical names. They are best identified by position and purpose rather than by invented labels.

Geography and appearance
The ruins are the remains of a settlement destroyed by dragonfire. Their broken walls and blackened masonry stand in stark contrast to the shallow water and reeds of Agheel Lake. The location’s visual identity comes from its combination of open exposure and cramped underground chambers: the surface is easy to enter from all sides, while the important loot is hidden below ground.
Wandering Nobles gather among the ruins and repeatedly chant the name of Agheel. Their presence provides the clearest environmental link between the ruin and the dragon. The chanting suggests that the settlement’s surviving or undead inhabitants have turned the dragon’s destruction into an object of fearful devotion, hoping that its flame will consume them. The association is reinforced by the item and enemy descriptions connected with Agheel and the Wandering Nobles.
There are no intact homes, functional shops or inhabited buildings. The visible structures are scenery and combat spaces, while the two underground rooms are the only places where the player can obtain fixed rewards.

Access and recommended routes
From the early Limgrave route
The simplest route is to travel south-east from the Gatefront area towards Agheel Lake. Once the lake comes into view, ride into the shallow water and look for the ruined buildings around the lake’s centre. Dragon-Burnt Ruins can be entered from any side, so there is no correct gate or required approach.
From the lake
If the player has already reached the Lake Agheel South Site of Grace, ride north or north-west into the lake. The ruins are easy to recognise from their blackened walls and scattered foundations.
From the Stranded Graveyard
The ruins are east of the Stranded Graveyard. This is a practical early-game route after leaving the tutorial area, although players should be aware that Flying Dragon Agheel may appear in the wider lake.
Torrent
Torrent is useful but not required. The water around the ruins is shallow, and the player can cross it on foot. Torrent makes it easier to avoid the dragon, circle the surface enemies and leave quickly after opening the trapped chest.

Subareas and landmarks
Surface ruins
The surface consists of collapsed buildings, low walls and open spaces patrolled by Wandering Nobles. Rats and a Stray occupy parts of the ruin. The surface is not a dungeon with a fog gate or boss door, and there is no Site of Grace inside it.
Search the walls and enclosed corners rather than simply following the largest road through the lake. The important entrances are low, partially concealed stairways leading below the surface.
Southern cellar
The southern cellar contains the Twinblade. It is reached through a basement entrance and does not require a Stonesword Key. The weapon is on a corpse in the underground room, making this one of the most valuable early detours for players who meet the Twinblade’s attributes.
The southern cellar is separate from the trapped chest room. Players can collect the Twinblade first and leave without activating the transporter trap.
Northern cellar
The northern cellar contains a chest affected by a transporter trap. Opening it sends the player to Sellia Crystal Tunnel in Caelid. This is not a normal reward chest and does not simply contain an item. The trap is one of the game’s earliest examples of a chest that changes the player’s location and can strand an inexperienced character in a much more dangerous region.
The chamber also contains the route associated with the ruin’s hidden connection to Caelid. The destination is fixed rather than random: the chest transports the player to Sellia Crystal Tunnel.

Residents and enemies
Dragon-Burnt Ruins has no named resident NPC and no merchant. Its inhabitants are hostile or non-interactive enemies.
Wandering Nobles
Wandering Nobles are found throughout the surface ruins. Some chant about Agheel, making them part of the area’s environmental storytelling rather than merely generic enemies. They are generally manageable at the beginning of the game, but fighting too many at once can still interrupt attacks and overwhelm a low-level character.
Stray
A Stray occupies the ruin grounds. It is fast and can punish players who focus on the Nobles without checking nearby corners.
Rat
Rats occupy the enclosed parts of the ruin, including areas near the underground loot. Their small size and tendency to attack from cluttered spaces make them more dangerous in the cellars than on the open surface.
Some third-party walkthroughs list additional enemies such as Giant Rats, Rotten Strays, dogs, giant crabs, dragonflies or undead soldiers in connection with the wider lake or with inaccurate area summaries. The conservative location-specific directory supported by the location listing is:
No ordinary NPCs, merchants, soldiers, invaders or allied summon signs are located inside Dragon-Burnt Ruins itself.
---
Loot and collectibles
The following fixed items are associated with the ruin complex.
The Twinblade and Stonesword Key are the most important permanent acquisitions. The Twinblade is particularly valuable for players who want an early multi-hit weapon, while the Stonesword Key can be saved for one of the many imp-sealed entrances elsewhere in Limgrave.
Loot directory
The last two are crafting materials rather than unique collectibles. Their appearance and availability should not be confused with enemy drops or procedural loot. The Twinblade, key, rune and cookbook are fixed placements.

Walkthrough
Escaping the Sellia Crystal Tunnel trap
After the trap activates, the player appears in a shack in Sellia Crystal Tunnel. The mine contains dangerous enemies for a new character, including Glintstone Miners and other hostile creatures. The immediate objective is not to clear the tunnel but to reach its Site of Grace.
Running, crouching and avoiding unnecessary combat are usually safer than attempting to defeat every miner and creature at a low level. Guides differ in the precise visual directions because the tunnel is easy to misread, but they agree on the essential solution: reach the Site of Grace before trying to travel elsewhere.

Recommended safe route
- 01Approach the ruins from the lake. Enter from whichever side is safest. There is no required entrance.
Recommended safe route
- 01Clear or avoid the surface enemies. Wandering Nobles are spread across the ruin. If you are only collecting loot, riding through on Torrent is sufficient.
Recommended safe route
- 01Search the southern half first. Find the basement entrance leading to the southern cellar.
Recommended safe route
- 01Collect the Twinblade. Take the weapon from the corpse in the cellar. Leave the room and return to the surface.
Recommended safe route
- 01Search the enclosed surface sections. Look for the corpse containing the Stonesword Key and collect the Golden Rune [2]. Deal with the Rat guarding the enclosed section if necessary.
Recommended safe route
- 01Collect the Deserter’s Cookbook [2] and materials. Check the ruin’s corners, broken walls and bodies rather than assuming the visible central courtyard contains everything.
Recommended safe route
- 01Decide whether to open the northern chest. If you are not prepared for Caelid, leave the chest unopened for now. There is no penalty for returning later.
Recommended safe route
- 01If you activate the transporter trap, do not panic. You will arrive in Sellia Crystal Tunnel, not die or lose your equipment. Fast travel is unavailable until you reach a Site of Grace.
Escaping the Sellia Crystal Tunnel trap
- 01Leave the shack.
- 02Turn right and follow the route around the outside of the structure.
- 03Continue down and around the tunnel.
- 04Look for the path leading to a lower ladder.
- 05Descend and proceed through the mine.
- 06Touch the Sellia Crystal Tunnel Site of Grace.
- 07Once the Site of Grace has been activated, fast travel becomes available again.
- 08Leave through the southern route when ready.
Flying Dragon Agheel and the lake
Flying Dragon Agheel is the major encounter associated with Dragon-Burnt Ruins, but it is important to define the boundary correctly. Agheel is fought in the open waters and shores of Agheel Lake. The dragon may descend as the player explores the lake, and its battle space extends well beyond the walls of the ruin.
The dragon is an optional boss. Defeating it awards a Dragon Heart, and its defeat unlocks the ability to obtain Agheel’s Flame at the Cathedral of Dragon Communion in Caelid, in exchange for Dragon Hearts. The location listing and dragon references identify Agheel’s Flame as the relevant post-boss unlock.

Hazards and secrets
Transporter trap
The northern chest is the location’s defining hazard. Its purpose is to transport the player rather than provide ordinary treasure. New characters may arrive in Caelid without the equipment, level or map knowledge normally expected there.
The trap is not a permanent lockout. The player can escape Sellia Crystal Tunnel without defeating its boss, provided they reach the Site of Grace. The tunnel can also be revisited later through ordinary exploration of Caelid.
Agheel’s fire
The lake is open terrain, but Agheel’s fire attacks cover a wide area. If the dragon appears while you are collecting the surface loot, mount Torrent and leave the ruin rather than trying to fight beside walls and broken foundations.
Confined cellars
The underground rooms are small enough for rats to attack from behind or around the player. Enter with enough stamina to retreat and avoid committing to a slow attack near a doorway.
No Site of Grace
There is no Site of Grace at Dragon-Burnt Ruins. The nearest convenient checkpoints are around Agheel Lake and the surrounding Limgrave roads. This makes it sensible to activate a nearby grace before investigating the transporter chest.

Lore
The ruin’s name records its destruction: it is a settlement burned by dragonfire. The chanting Wandering Nobles explicitly invoke Agheel, and the dragon is encountered in the same lake. Together, these details establish that the ruins are not merely old masonry with a coincidental dragon nearby. The area presents a community that has been physically destroyed and spiritually defined by the dragon responsible.
The Wandering Nobles’ chant is especially significant because it frames Agheel’s fire as something they desire or fearfully revere. Their words connect the location’s inhabitants to the dragon’s flame even before the boss appears. This is one of the base game’s early examples of environmental narrative being delivered through enemy behaviour and short spoken lines rather than a conventional cutscene.
The underground transporter trap adds a second layer to the location’s design. On the surface, the ruins point towards the lake and Agheel. Beneath them, a chest abruptly points east towards Caelid. The player therefore discovers both a local history and a mechanical link between two distant regions in a single small location.
---
Progression and missability
Dragon-Burnt Ruins is available very early and is not locked behind story progression. Its fixed loot remains obtainable during normal play, and there is no known main-story state that removes the Twinblade, Stonesword Key or transporter chest from the ruin.
The main progression-dependent distinction concerns the Flying Dragon Agheel encounter and related character interactions around Agheel Lake. The dragon can be fought as an optional boss, while Yura’s nearby involvement belongs to the wider lake area rather than to the ruins themselves.
