Key takeaways
- Enir-Ilim is a separate legacy dungeon and sub-region, not simply part of Belurat.
- It is unlocked by burning the Sealing Tree at the Church of the Bud after defeating Romina.
- The dungeon’s structure is primarily vertical and spiral, with courtyards, rooftops, towers and internal staircases connecting its sections.
- The main route includes five named Sites of Grace Enir-Ilim: Outer Wall, First Rise, Spiral Rise, Cleansing Chamber Anteroom and Divine Gate Front Staircase.
- The area contains the late-game Miquella follower battle, whose available combatants and rewards depend on earlier quest progress.
- The final encounter is Promised Consort Radahn, followed by the conclusion of Miquella’s story and the memory associated with the battle.
About this guide
Scope: Shadow of the Erdtree, the official expansion for Elden Ring. Spoilers: This guide contains major story, NPC quest and final-boss spoilers.
Overview
Enir-Ilim is the final major area of Elden Ring: Shadow of the Erdtree. It is both a sub-region of the Land of the Tower and a legacy dungeon, although it does not behave like a conventional ground-level fortress. The area is a sacred Hornsent tower suspended above the Realm of Shadow, built around immense spiral structures, ritual courtyards and the Gate of Divinity.
The dungeon is closely connected to Belurat, Tower Settlement. Belurat is the lower settlement, while Enir-Ilim is the elevated sacred tower that gives the settlement and its former Tower Festival their names. It should therefore be treated as a separate location with a direct structural relationship to Belurat, not as a renamed upper section of the settlement.
Enir-Ilim becomes accessible only after the story reaches its endgame state. The Tarnished must defeat Messmer the Impaler, obtain Messmer’s Kindling, defeat Romina, Saint of the Bud, and use the Kindling to burn the Sealing Tree in the Ancient Ruins of Rauh. The resulting cutscene transports the player to the newly unsealed tower.
The area contains the expansion’s concluding NPC confrontation and the final boss, Promised Consort Radahn. It also holds some of the DLC’s most important late-game rewards, including the Spira incantation, Horned Warrior Ashes, a Scadutree Fragment and several rewards connected with the followers of Miquella.

Neighbouring but separate locations
Unlocking Enir-Ilim
Enir-Ilim cannot be reached by ordinary exploration at the beginning of the DLC. The required sequence is:
The area is therefore a late-game location rather than an optional detour. The player cannot reach its main entrance by finding a hidden path in the overworld.
Important progression warning
Burning the Sealing Tree changes the state of the Realm of Shadow and begins the final approach to the DLC’s conclusion. Before doing so, complete any NPC steps you still want to perform, especially those connected with:
The precise effects of earlier quest decisions vary, but the late-game faction battle is strongly affected by which characters have survived, which summon signs are available and whether their dialogue and invasion steps have been completed.
---
Enir-Ilim is best understood as a vertical ritual tower rather than a conventional castle.
The lower approaches contain broad stairs, exterior walls and guarded courtyards. Higher sections become increasingly ceremonial, with spiral staircases, roof routes and enclosed chambers leading towards the Gate of Divinity. The dungeon repeatedly asks the player to look above and below the obvious route. A staircase that appears to be a dead end may lead to a lift, a rooftop jump or a collectible reached from another elevation.
The area’s visual language is shared with Belurat. Both locations use Hornsent architectural motifs, large stonework, spiralling forms and religious sculpture. Enir-Ilim, however, is much more overtly sacred. Belurat feels like a settlement organised around a tower, while Enir-Ilim is the tower’s ritual and political summit.
The tower’s height also reinforces the Hornsent idea of ascent. Stairs, spirals and raised platforms repeatedly direct the player upwards towards the Divine Gate. This is not merely a navigational gimmick. It reflects the tower’s role as the location where Miquella intends to guide Radahn towards godhood.

Important progression warning
Enir-Ilim: Outer Wall
This is the player’s arrival point after the Sealing Tree cutscene. It provides the first opportunity to rest and marks the beginning of the main ascent.
The route ahead leads through heavily guarded exterior spaces. The first enemies include powerful golden-armoured warriors and other late-game Hornsent defenders. The area is a useful place to establish a cautious rhythm because enemies are positioned to punish rushing up the central stairs.
First Rise
First Rise is reached after ascending from the Outer Wall and entering the first major interior section. Several routes branch from here:
The lift is particularly useful for revisiting the lower sections without repeating the whole opening route.
Golden-tree courtyard
This broad exterior section contains a chapel, a fountain and several elevation changes. It is one of the dungeon’s most useful exploration spaces because it contains multiple rewards spread over different levels.
The large enemy near the fountain should be approached carefully. It can control the space around the statue and punish players who fight while surrounded by other enemies.
Spiral Rise
After dealing with the upper courtyard route, the player reaches Spiral Rise. This is one of the area’s most recognisable internal landmarks, with a twisting staircase and a further vertical route towards the rooftops.
Rooftops and upper tower
The rooftops provide one of Enir-Ilim’s major changes of pace. Rather than moving through corridors, the player crosses exposed roof sections and jumps between structures.
The large birds here can be more dangerous than their ordinary appearance suggests, particularly when they attack together. Explore the side route before continuing upwards, as one branch leads to a Revered Spirit Ash and another drops into the room containing Horned Warrior Ashes.
Cleansing Chamber Anteroom
This is the staging area for the Miquella follower confrontation. The player reaches it after climbing through the upper tower and activating the Site of Grace.
The red invasion sign begins the encounter with Leda and her allies. This battle is one of the most state-dependent events in the DLC. The opponents and allied summons depend on earlier quest progression.
Divine Gate Front Staircase
This Site of Grace is the final checkpoint before the fog door leading to Promised Consort Radahn. It is positioned on the great approach to the Gate of Divinity.
Rest here before attempting the boss. The final fight is long, has two phases and is substantially easier when the player has already completed the relevant NPC quest steps and collected enough Scadutree Blessings.
Gate of Divinity
The Gate of Divinity is the climax of the tower’s architecture and the setting for the final boss. It is the structure associated with Miquella’s attempt to enter godhood with Radahn as his consort.
Named Site of Grace directory
---
Enir-Ilim has no ordinary civilian population, no shops and no permanent merchant settlement. Its inhabitants are overwhelmingly hostile defenders, ritual attendants and story-linked combatants.
Hornsent
The Hornsent are the historical people associated with Enir-Ilim and the wider Land of the Tower. Their religious culture is represented through the tower’s architecture, statues and ritual spaces.
At the time of the game, the area is not a functioning city. The player encounters remnants of its former population, hostile warriors and religious figures rather than a living civilian community.
Miquella’s followers
The main story faction present in Enir-Ilim is Miquella’s group. The player encounters them in the Cleansing Chamber Anteroom during the large NPC battle.
The exact lineup is progression-dependent. This is why two players may describe different versions of the same fight.
The event may include
Named characters associated with Enir-Ilim
Needle Knight Leda
Leda leads Miquella’s followers and initiates the invasion battle in the Cleansing Chamber Anteroom. Her actions represent the final collapse of the group’s unity and trust.
Sir Ansbach
Ansbach may appear as a summon during the follower battle if his questline has been advanced correctly. He later appears in the upper route after the confrontation. His dialogue provides important context for the relationship between Miquella, Mohg and the events taking place at the Divine Gate.
Redmane Freyja
Freyja may appear as one of Leda’s opponents during the group battle. Her participation and equipment rewards depend on the progression of her questline.
Hornsent
Hornsent may appear during the battle depending on whether his quest has reached the relevant state. His presence reflects his personal revenge against the people associated with Messmer’s crusade.
Dryleaf Dane
Dryleaf Dane can appear in the confrontation. His inclusion depends on earlier events involving the Dryleaf sect and the NPC quest state.
Moore
Moore is associated with Leda’s faction and may be present depending on earlier progression. His appearance in the battle is not guaranteed in every playthrough.
Named character directory
The last entry is a story presence rather than a conventional NPC who can be spoken to in the dungeon.

Named character directory
1. Secure the Outer Wall and First Rise
From Enir-Ilim: Outer Wall, activate the Site of Grace and move up the first staircase. Deal with the golden-armoured warrior before advancing into the tower.
Continue upwards until reaching First Rise. Search the side routes before committing to the main ascent. The upper staircase contains a Somber Smithing Stone [5], while the lift provides a shortcut towards Belurat.
Take the exterior route from the same level as First Rise to reach the courtyard.
2. Search the courtyard before climbing
In the courtyard, first enter the small chapel. Follow the route through the building and jump out of the window to reach a Rune Arc.
Return to the courtyard and deal with the large enemy near the fountain. Search the nearby area for a Revered Spirit Ash. Then descend to the lower level and collect the second Revered Spirit Ash near the statue where enemies are praying.
From the courtyard, climb towards the powerful Divine Bird Warrior. Lightning resistance is useful here, particularly the Boltdrake Talisman +3. The enemy is dangerous in close quarters and can punish healing attempts.
After defeating it, use the tree behind the encounter to cross to a ledge containing Spira.
3. Reach Spiral Rise
Return to the main courtyard route and climb the long staircase. Open the large stone doors at the top to find Spiral Rise.
Activate the Site of Grace, then collect the nearby Scadutree Fragment and interact with Miquella’s Cross.
Continue up the twisting staircase. Before following the obvious route, check the rooftop exits carefully. The path now moves outdoors.
4. Cross the rooftops
Several large birds guard the rooftops. Avoid fighting all of them at once if possible. Pull them towards safer sections of roof or use ranged attacks to separate them.
At the staircase reached after the roof jumps, turn left first to collect a Revered Spirit Ash. Then drop to the lower staircase and enter the room containing Horned Warrior Ashes.
Use the two ladders inside the tower to climb back up. Cross the rooftops and re-enter the Spiral Rise structure. Continue through the upper staircase until reaching the Cleansing Chamber Anteroom.
5. Complete the Miquella follower battle
Rest at the Site of Grace before activating the red invasion sign. The battle unfolds in stages, with additional characters joining as the fight continues.
The exact sequence and combatants can change with quest progression. If available, summon Ansbach using the gold sign. He is a particularly valuable ally because he can occupy several enemies and help prevent the fight from becoming an uncontrolled group attack.
After winning, collect the available weapons and armour from the defeated characters. The rewards are tied to the NPCs who actually appear, so do not assume that every listed piece will be present in every playthrough.
A typical progression involves
- 01Redmane Freyja entering the battle.
- 02Hornsent joining later.
- 03Dryleaf Dane arriving after that.
- 04Needle Knight Leda becoming the final major opponent.
6. Speak to Ansbach and climb to the final checkpoint
Continue beyond the battle and take the lift to the upper section. Speak with Ansbach if he is present.
Climb the following staircase and activate Divine Gate Front Staircase. Prepare for the final boss before entering the fog.
---
Divine Bird Warrior
This is a powerful named enemy encounter in the courtyard rather than the area’s main boss. It uses lightning-based attacks and can be difficult to fight safely around the fountain and nearby enemies.
The encounter is associated with the route to Spira and should be treated as a serious elite fight.
Miquella’s followers
This is a multi-NPC battle in the Cleansing Chamber Anteroom. It is not a conventional boss with a fog door, but it functions as one of the dungeon’s major set-piece encounters.
The difficulty depends heavily on the player’s quest state. Completing NPC quests before entering Enir-Ilim can provide allied summons and remove or alter hostile combatants.
After the fight, the player can obtain several unique weapons and armour pieces, including rewards associated with Leda, Freyja, Hornsent and Dryleaf Dane.
Promised Consort Radahn
Promised Consort Radahn is the principal boss of Enir-Ilim and the final boss of the DLC.
Preparation
The second phase is especially punishing because many attacks cover the entire area. Staying close can sometimes be safer than retreating, since several long-range attacks are designed to catch players who roll away repeatedly.
Rewards
Defeating Promised Consort Radahn grants the boss Remembrance and advances the DLC’s ending sequence. The player can later exchange the Remembrance for unique rewards through the usual remembrance system.
---
The following named rewards and collectible types are documented for Enir-Ilim. Some are fixed pickups, while others are tied to enemies or NPC outcomes.
The fight has two phases
| Name | Details |
|---|---|
| Phase one | Radahn uses enormous physical attacks, gravity techniques and rapid sword combinations. |
| Phase two | Miquella joins him, adding holy attacks, beams, area explosions and wider arena coverage. |
Fixed and semi-fixed rewards
The exact placement of several ordinary crafting and upgrade items is less important than the route order: search the courtyard’s lower levels, the upper staircase, the rooftops and the side rooms before moving to the Cleansing Chamber.
Enemy and NPC-linked equipment
The availability of NPC equipment depends on who participates in the follower battle and how the associated questlines have been handled. The Divine Bird Warrior Greaves are an enemy drop rather than a guaranteed chest reward.
Enemy and NPC-linked equipment
Collectible and reward checklist
Before entering the final boss arena, check that you have searched:
---
Enir-Ilim’s regular enemies are among the most dangerous in the DLC. The area combines aggressive melee fighters with enemies capable of lightning, ranged pressure or sudden ambushes.
Verified enemy directory
The area’s most characteristic opponents are the Horned Warriors, who use swift, highly damaging attacks and can carry different elemental weapons. The Inquisitors reinforce the religious character of the tower, while the Sages of Enir-Ilim act as distinctive spellcasting defenders.
The enemy list above describes ordinary and elite enemies associated with the location. It should not be confused with the named NPCs who appear during the follower battle or with bosses located in neighbouring areas.
---
Vertical navigation
The most common mistake is assuming that the highest visible staircase is always the intended route. Enir-Ilim regularly hides rewards below the main path or behind rooftop drops.
If a route appears to terminate
- 01inspect the surrounding windows
- 02look for a lower roof or balcony
- 03check whether a tree provides a crossing
- 04search for a ladder behind the structure
- 05revisit the area from a different elevation
Group fights
The courtyard and rooftop sections are built to punish fighting multiple enemies in open space. Separate enemies with ranged attacks, use corners to block line of sight and do not allow Divine Bird Warriors or Horned Warriors to combine their attack patterns.
Quest-state changes
The Miquella follower battle is the main missability issue within Enir-Ilim. The player may lose access to some summon signs, opponents or rewards by advancing quests incorrectly or by entering the final sequence before completing desired NPC steps.
Because the battle is state-dependent, the safest approach is to finish all available DLC NPC dialogue and invasion events before burning the Sealing Tree.
No merchant hub
There are no verified shops, businesses, purchasable properties or ordinary services in Enir-Ilim. The tower contains no merchant settlement equivalent to the Roundtable Hold, Church of Elleh or the various DLC camps. Its facilities are Sites of Grace, lifts, quest encounters and the final boss route.
---
Enir-Ilim is the Hornsent’s sacred tower and the location of the Gate of Divinity. The tower represents an attempt to reach or interact with the divine through monumental architecture and ritual ascent.
Its connection with Belurat is especially important. Belurat is a settlement organised around the tower, while Enir-Ilim is the elevated sacred centre. The relationship explains why Belurat is associated with the Tower Festival and why both places share such strong architectural motifs.
The tower also exposes the conflict between the Hornsent past and Miquella’s future. Miquella uses this ancient sacred site for his own apotheosis, but the ritual requires Radahn as his consort and depends on the corpse of Mohg. The player arrives after Messmer’s crusade has already devastated the old order, leaving Enir-Ilim as a surviving but sealed monument.
The final ascent therefore has three simultaneous meanings:
The game’s environmental design supports this reading without requiring Enir-Ilim to be treated as a separate world or a post-game mode. It is part of the ordinary Shadow of the Erdtree continuity and is reached during the DLC’s final progression.

No. Enir-Ilim and Belurat, Tower Settlement are separate named locations and separate legacy dungeons. They are directly connected by architecture and a shortcut lift, but they should not be merged into one area.
Can I reach Enir-Ilim early?
No. It becomes available only after the Sealing Tree is burned with Messmer’s Kindling following the defeat of Romina.
Is the Church of the Bud inside Enir-Ilim?
No. The Church of the Bud is in the Ancient Ruins of Rauh. It is part of the access sequence, not part of the tower.
Are all of Leda’s opponents guaranteed to appear?
No. The Miquella follower battle changes according to NPC quest progression. Freyja, Hornsent, Dryleaf Dane, Moore and Ansbach are not all guaranteed to appear in the same role in every playthrough.
Does Enir-Ilim contain a merchant?
No verified merchant, shop or business operates in the area. The tower contains Sites of Grace, shortcuts, collectible rewards and story encounters.
Is Promised Consort Radahn optional?
No. He is the principal boss of Enir-Ilim and the final boss of the DLC’s main story.
