Key takeaways

  • The Fourth Church of Marika is in the western Weeping Peninsula, not a separate region from Limgrave.
  • Its principal reward is one Sacred Tear, found at the statue inside the ruined church.
  • The location contains the Fourth Church of Marika Site of Grace.
  • Several Mausoleum Soldiers patrol the area, but there is no boss within the church grounds.
  • The nearby Walking Mausoleum is a separate landmark and should not be counted as part of the church.
  • The church is a convenient stopping point before exploring the Weeping Evergaol, Witchbane Ruins and the peninsula’s western coast.

Note

Base game location guide. This article covers the Fourth Church of Marika itself and its immediate church grounds. Nearby locations such as the Weeping Evergaol, Witchbane Ruins and the Walking Mausoleum are treated as connections rather than as subareas of the church.

Overview

The Fourth Church of Marika is a small ruined church in the far west of the Weeping Peninsula, in southern Limgrave. It is one of the game’s early sources of a Sacred Tear, making it more important mechanically than its modest size suggests. The church also contains a permanent Site of Grace, but no merchant, quest character, boss arena or dungeon entrance.

The building stands on a raised grassy plateau, with the coastline and a Walking Mausoleum nearby. A small group of Mausoleum Soldiers patrol the approach and church grounds, although the player can usually reach the Grace and Sacred Tear without fighting them.

Location and boundaries

The Fourth Church of Marika occupies a high, open stretch of land in the western Weeping Peninsula. It is not a large enclosed area. The location consists primarily of:

The surrounding plateau is visually open, so the church is easy to recognise once the player reaches the western side of the peninsula. A Walking Mausoleum can be seen in the wider area, and the church is also close to the Weeping Evergaol and Witchbane Ruins. These places are nearby connections, not internal sections of the Fourth Church of Marika.

Not included

This distinction matters because the western Weeping Peninsula contains several points of interest close together. A route that begins at the church can easily pass through all of them, but their rewards, enemies and progression states should not be attributed to the church itself.

Reaching the Fourth Church of Marika

The church is most naturally reached while exploring the Weeping Peninsula from the Bridge of Sacrifice.

Route from the north

The Walking Mausoleum is particularly useful as a navigation aid. The church is positioned near it, but the Mausoleum itself is a separate encounter and is not required to enter the church.

Route from the Church of Pilgrimage

A common early-game route is to visit the Church of Pilgrimage first, collect its Sacred Tear, then travel south-west towards the Fourth Church. The two churches are both part of a natural Weeping Peninsula exploration circuit. A guide to the peninsula places the Fourth Church after the Walking Mausoleum on this route.

Movement advice

Torrent is useful because the approach is exposed and the church sits on higher ground. If the player is not trying to clear the patrols, riding directly to the church, activating the Grace and entering the ruins is usually safer than fighting in the open.

There is no locked door, fog wall or access condition. The location can be visited very early, provided the player can reach the peninsula.

Route from the north

  1. 01
Cross the Bridge of Sacrifice into the Weeping Peninsula.
  2. 02
Follow the main road south and explore towards the peninsula’s central and western routes.
  3. 03
Continue towards the western side of the region, using the Walking Mausoleum as a major visual landmark.
  4. 04
Ride uphill towards the church on the plateau.
  5. 05
Activate the Fourth Church of Marika Site of Grace before collecting the Sacred Tear.

Geography and nearby connections

The church’s position gives it a useful role as a western Weeping Peninsula checkpoint.

Walking Mausoleum

A Walking Mausoleum stands in the broader area, south-east of the Fourth Church according to location references. It is a separate moving landmark associated with Mausoleum Soldiers and Remembrance duplication. The soldiers around the church help establish a visual and thematic connection between the church and the Mausoleum, but defeating them is not necessary to claim the church’s reward.

Weeping Evergaol

The Weeping Evergaol lies to the north of the church. It is an independent challenge location with its own entrance, encounter and reward. It should not be included in a list of church subareas.

Witchbane Ruins

Witchbane Ruins are south of the church. The ruins have their own enemies, environmental hazards and underground content. Although they are an obvious next destination after visiting the church, none of those encounters belong to the Fourth Church of Marika.

Isolated Merchant’s Shack

The Isolated Merchant’s Shack lies farther south-west, beyond the western peninsula’s open terrain. It is a separate merchant location. The merchant’s services should not be attributed to the church, even though guides commonly include both places in the same western Weeping Peninsula route.

Church building and landmarks

The Fourth Church of Marika is a roofless or heavily ruined stone church built around the standard Marika-church layout. The principal interior landmark is the statue of Marika.

Statue of Marika

The statue is the focal point of the church and marks the location of the Sacred Tear. It is not a dialogue NPC and does not begin a quest. The player simply collects the item at its base.

The statue also places the church within the wider network of Golden Order religious sites. The First, Second, Third and Fourth Churches of Marika form a numbered group of locations spread across the Lands Between. Their numbering is a game-world feature, but the game does not provide a complete chronological explanation for why each church received its number.

Site of Grace and facilities

Fourth Church of Marika Site of Grace

The Site of Grace is inside the church. It provides the standard Grace functions, including healing, fast travel and access to character and equipment systems available at a Site of Grace.

It is especially useful as a route marker because the western Weeping Peninsula contains several separated points of interest. Once activated, the player can return here before tackling nearby areas or use it as a base for travelling between the Walking Mausoleum, Witchbane Ruins and the southern coast.

No merchant or special service

The existence of a Site of Grace does not mean that every Grace-related service is unique to this location. The church is primarily a rest point and item stop.

---

Enemies and security

Mausoleum Soldiers

Several Mausoleum Soldiers patrol the church’s exterior and surrounding grounds. They are ordinary enemies rather than a named boss or miniboss. Their presence is thematically appropriate because a Walking Mausoleum is nearby, and Mausoleum Soldiers are associated with the soulless demigod remains carried by those structures.

The patrols can be bypassed. A mounted approach allows the player to ride past them, activate the Grace and collect the Sacred Tear. If fighting, watch for attacks from multiple directions rather than treating the area as a single duel.

No named boss is recorded as part of the Fourth Church of Marika itself. The Weeping Evergaol, Witchbane Ruins and Walking Mausoleum each have separate encounters and must be handled independently.

Items and collectibles

Sacred Tear

The Sacred Tear is the church’s principal fixed collectible. It is found at the base of the statue inside the ruins. Sacred Tears increase the potency of the Sacred Flask’s restorative effects when used at a Site of Grace. They do not increase the number of flask charges, and they do not improve the Flask of Wondrous Physick.

How to collect it

The upgrade is permanent for the character and applies to the Sacred Flask’s restorative power. The church’s Tear is fixed content, not a random drop.

Crafting materials

Basic gathering materials can appear around the church grounds, including Rowa Fruit, Erdleaf Flower and Mushroom. These are ordinary overworld materials rather than unique rewards. Their availability is less important than the Sacred Tear, and they should not be confused with fixed key-item placements.

Because overworld resources can be collected and later restored, the exact number and precise placement of individual materials should not be treated as a permanent treasure list.

---

How to collect it

  1. 01
    Enter the ruined church.
  2. 02
    Locate the statue of Marika.
  3. 03
Approach the item at its base.
  4. 04
    Pick up the Sacred Tear.
  5. 05
Rest at the church’s Site of Grace.
  6. 06
Select the flask option to increase the amount replenished by the Sacred Flask.
  7. 07
Confirm the upgrade if the required Sacred Tear level is available.

Walkthrough

Safe collection route

This is the recommended route for a new character because the church reward does not require combat.

Clear-the-area route

If you want to remove the immediate threats:

Clearing the soldiers has no special quest reward. It is an exploration choice rather than a progression requirement.

Use the church walls to limit attacks from behind.
  4. 04
Check the outer grounds for remaining patrols.
  5. 05
Collect the church materials after the patrols are gone.
  6. 06
Rest at the Grace and continue to a neighbouring location.

Progression changes and missability

The Fourth Church of Marika is largely static throughout the base game.

Missability

The Sacred Tear is not permanently missable through ordinary story progression. A player who leaves the peninsula can return later and collect it. It is possible to overlook it, however, especially if the player activates the Grace and leaves without checking the statue.

The nearby Walking Mausoleum and other western peninsula encounters should not be used as evidence that the church itself has changed state. They are separate locations with their own mechanics and progression.

Lore and atmosphere

The Fourth Church of Marika is one of several ruined religious sites that show the reach of Marika’s faith across the Lands Between. Unlike a functioning settlement, it contains no active congregation, priest or resident community. Its broken state reflects the broader condition of the world after the Shattering, where many Golden Order structures remain as abandoned monuments.

Its placement in the Weeping Peninsula is also significant from an exploration perspective. The peninsula is an early region where the player can see religious architecture, military ruins, isolated communities and remnants of older conflicts gathered close together. The church’s quiet plateau contrasts with the more hostile ruins and marshes below.

The exact historical sequence implied by the numbered Marika churches is not fully explained in the base game. It is safer to treat the numbering as an in-game naming convention than to assign a precise founding date to the Fourth Church.
