About this guide
Scope: Elden Ring base game, excluding Shadow of the Erdtree and the separate surrounding locations of the Three Sisters plateau. Spoiler warning: This guide discusses Ranni’s quest, Nokron, the fate of Blaidd and Iji, the Lake of Rot, Astel and the Age of Stars ending.
Overview
Ranni’s Rise is a small but exceptionally important location in north-western Liurnia of the Lakes. It is the central tower of the Three Sisters, a high plateau reached only after passing through Caria Manor. The tower serves as Ranni the Witch’s residence, the opening hub for one of Elden Ring’s longest character quests and, briefly, the home of several major figures connected to Carian royalty, the underground cities and the Night of the Black Knives.
The name can be confusing because players often use “Ranni’s Rise” to mean the entire area behind Caria Manor. Strictly speaking, Ranni’s Rise is the tower and its immediate grounds. The broader plateau is called the Three Sisters, and it also contains Renna’s Rise and Seluvis’s Rise. Caria Manor, the road outside it and the later underground areas connected to Ranni’s quest are separate locations.
Ranni’s Rise contains little conventional loot and no shop or dungeon in the usual sense. Its importance comes from dialogue, quest progression, a key item received from Ranni and several progression changes that open routes across the Lands Between. It is also one of the game’s clearest examples of a location whose function changes as the player advances a quest.
Ranni’s Rise proper
Ranni’s Rise consists of the tall tower, its interior stairway and upper chamber, the approach immediately around the building and the nearby open ground where the dragon encounter can occur. Ranni is found at the top of the tower after the player reaches the Three Sisters.
The tower is an inhabited quest location rather than a conventional dungeon. There are no puzzle rooms, hidden catacomb branches or sizeable treasure route inside. Most of the meaningful content is attached to conversations and progression conditions.
The Three Sisters
The Three Sisters is the broader plateau behind Caria Manor. It contains three named rises:
Ranni’s Rise is the middle tower. Renna’s Rise is the eastern tower and is initially inaccessible. Seluvis’s Rise is the southern tower and is associated with Preceptor Seluvis.
The plateau also contains the approach roads, the tower grounds and the dragon encounter. It should not be treated as part of Ranni’s Rise itself when cataloguing locations.
Separate neighbouring locations
The following places are nearby or connected to Ranni’s Rise but are not subareas of it:
Ranni’s Rise is reached from the area behind Caria Manor, but the manor remains a distinct legacy-dungeon location. Likewise, Cathedral of Manus Celes is part of the later Moonlight Altar section of Ranni’s quest, not part of the Three Sisters.
---
Ranni’s Rise stands on elevated ground north-west of the Academy of Raya Lucaria. Its position gives a clear view over the surrounding Liurnian landscape, although the tower itself is partly concealed by the plateau and surrounding structures until the player has crossed Caria Manor.
Ranni’s Rise is the middle tower once the player enters the plateau. Ranni is located at the top, reached by climbing the internal staircase and lift route.
Caria Manor must normally be cleared far enough to defeat Royal Knight Loretta before the plateau can be reached. Guides place Ranni’s tower at the top of the middle rise in the garden area beyond the manor.
Separate neighbouring locations
Separate neighbouring locations: The conventional route is
- 01Travel north through western Liurnia.
- 02Enter Caria Manor.
- 03Progress through the manor’s courtyards, walkways and hand-infested sections.
- 04Defeat Royal Knight Loretta.
- 05Leave the manor through the northern exit.
- 06Enter the Three Sisters plateau.
- 07Take the central route to Ranni’s Rise.
Recommended first visit
This order establishes the location as a quest hub and ensures that dialogue is not missed simply because the player leaves immediately after meeting Ranni.
---
A useful first exploration order is
- 01Activate the Ranni’s Rise Site of Grace.
- 02Circle the immediate outside grounds and check the dragon’s location.
- 03Enter the tower and speak to Ranni.
- 04Exhaust Ranni’s dialogue.
- 05Descend and speak with the quest-associated figures who appear below.
- 06Return to the tower after major quest stages rather than assuming the area is finished permanently.
Ranni the Witch
Ranni is the principal resident and the reason for the tower’s name. She is found in the upper chamber, seated above the tower’s main interior space.
Speaking to her begins the central stage of her quest. She asks the player to enter her service and introduces the wider group connected to her plans. Her objectives eventually lead to:
Ranni’s quest is optional for the ordinary completion of the base game, but it is required for access to the Age of Stars ending. It also rewards the Dark Moon Greatsword at the end of the quest.
Ranni’s early visit as “Renna”
Earlier in the game, Ranni may appear at the Church of Elleh under the name Renna and provide the Spirit Calling Bell and Lone Wolf Ashes. That encounter is separate from her later appearance at Ranni’s Rise. The name change is part of the character’s presentation and should not be treated as a different NPC.
Ranni the Witch
Blaidd the Half-Wolf
Blaidd appears in Ranni’s Rise after the player accepts Ranni’s service. He is one of Ranni’s retainers and becomes the main field agent for the search for Nokron.
His immediate role is to investigate the route to Nokron. The quest then moves him to Siofra River, Redmane Castle and later locations. He is not permanently present in the tower throughout the quest, so his absence after the initial meeting is normal.
Blaidd’s story eventually returns to Ranni’s Rise. Returning after completing Ranni’s quest produces one of the location’s most significant progression changes and leads to a confrontation. This is a major spoiler and is best left until the player has completed the wider quest.
War Counsellor Iji
War Counsellor Iji is associated with Ranni’s faction but is not normally a resident standing inside Ranni’s Rise. He is found at Road to the Manor, outside the manor approach.
Iji provides additional context about Ranni, Blaidd and the political situation surrounding Caria. He also offers smithing services at his own location. Those services belong to Road to the Manor and should not be counted as facilities within Ranni’s Rise.
Iji’s dialogue can change as Ranni’s quest progresses. He is therefore worth revisiting after major milestones, especially after Radahn and after the quest’s conclusion.
Preceptor Seluvis
Seluvis is associated with Ranni’s group and appears in the Three Sisters, but his residence is Seluvis’s Rise, not Ranni’s Rise. He is a separate NPC with his own quest and potion-related objectives.
Seluvis’s Rise is a neighbouring tower and should not be merged with Ranni’s Rise in a location directory. His presence in guides to the Three Sisters often causes the two towers to be conflated.
---
Ranni’s Rise has very few conventional facilities.
Site of Grace
The Ranni’s Rise Site of Grace is inside the tower. It functions as the principal checkpoint for the Three Sisters and is the most useful fast-travel point for returning to Ranni.
A second grace, Ranni’s Chamber, becomes available in the upper part of the tower after sufficient quest progression. It is positioned near Ranni’s former place and is associated with the later stages of the quest.
No shop or merchant
There is no merchant, shop, blacksmith, spell vendor, cook, crafting station or purchasable property inside Ranni’s Rise.
A building’s association with a character does not automatically mean that the character provides services there. Ranni’s tower is primarily a meeting and quest-progression space.
Tower interior
It does not contain a conventional loot table comparable to a cave, catacomb or legacy dungeon.
---
Wolves
The ordinary hostile creatures recorded for Ranni’s Rise are wolves in the surrounding grounds. They are encountered outdoors rather than as part of an enclosed dungeon route.
The wolves are useful as a warning that the plateau is not entirely safe immediately after leaving Caria Manor, but they are not the main challenge of the area.
Glintstone Dragon Adula
Glintstone Dragon Adula appears in the open area near Ranni’s Rise. The fight begins as an outdoor dragon encounter. After the player reduces its health to a certain point, Adula retreats rather than dying in the first encounter.
The dragon later reappears at the Moonlight Altar, where it can be fought to completion. The Moonlight Altar encounter is a separate location and should not be listed as a second Ranni’s Rise boss.
Adula is thematically linked to Ranni and the Carian magical tradition. The encounter also teaches players that some overworld bosses are staged encounters whose first appearance is not their final battle.
Boss directory
The Ranni’s Rise location listing identifies Adula as the area’s boss encounter and notes that it retreats during the first battle.
---
Carian Inverted Statue
The principal reward associated with Ranni’s Rise is the Carian Inverted Statue.
Ranni rewards the player with the Carian Inverted Statue. The statue is then used at Carian Study Hall to invert the building and access its hidden progression route.
The statue is not found as a normal pickup inside the tower. It is a quest reward received through an interaction there.
To receive it
- 01Defeat Starscourge Radahn.
- 02Enter Nokron, Eternal City through the crater opened in Limgrave.
- 03Reach Night’s Sacred Ground.
- 04Open the chest containing the Fingerslayer Blade.
- 05Return to Ranni’s Rise.
- 06Give the blade to Ranni.
Other noteworthy rewards connected to the location
These rewards are obtained elsewhere, but Ranni’s Rise is the point from which the associated quest stages begin or advance:
The broad progression from meeting Ranni to obtaining the Fingerslayer Blade, using Renna’s Rise and eventually claiming the Dark Moon Greatsword is outlined in the quest walkthroughs consulted for this guide.
---

| Reward | Where obtained | Connection to Ranni’s Rise |
|---|---|---|
| Carian Inverted Statue | Given by Ranni | Direct reward for delivering the Fingerslayer Blade |
| Miniature Ranni Doll | Ainsel River Main | Reached through Renna’s Rise after Ranni’s quest advances |

| Dark Moon Ring | Raya Lucaria Grand Library | Required for the final Ranni encounter |
| Dark Moon Greatsword | Cathedral of Manus Celes | Final quest reward |
| Age of Stars ending | End-game summon sign | Unlocked by completing Ranni’s quest |
Stage 1: Reach the tower
Defeat Royal Knight Loretta in Caria Manor and leave through the northern exit. Cross the Three Sisters plateau and enter the middle tower.
Speak to Ranni at the top. Choose to enter her service and exhaust the available dialogue. After this, return downstairs and speak with the other figures present.
The opening conversation establishes the immediate objective: find a way into Nokron.
Stage 2: Follow the Nokron investigation
The quest’s next steps take place outside Ranni’s Rise:
The exact dialogue order can vary if the player has already encountered Blaidd, Seluvis, Sellen or Radahn. The important progression gate is Radahn’s defeat, which causes a star to fall and opens the route into Nokron.
Stage 2: Follow the Nokron investigation: steps
- 01Speak with Blaidd in Siofra River.
- 02Speak with Seluvis at Seluvis’s Rise.
- 03Receive Seluvis’s introduction for Sorceress Sellen, if following that branch.
- 04Speak with Sellen at Waypoint Ruins.
- 05Learn that Starscourge Radahn is preventing the stars from moving.
- 06Go to Redmane Castle in Caelid.
- 07Defeat Radahn.
Stage 3: Retrieve the Fingerslayer Blade
After Radahn falls, travel to the crater in eastern Limgrave. Enter Nokron and continue through the city until reaching Night’s Sacred Ground.
The Fingerslayer Blade is inside a chest in the underground city. It is not located anywhere in Ranni’s Rise.
Return to Ranni and give her the blade. The reward is the Carian Inverted Statue. This is the key action that completes the first major phase of the quest and changes the role of the surrounding Three Sisters area.
Stage 4: Use Renna’s Rise
After handing over the blade, Renna’s Rise becomes accessible. This is a separate tower from Ranni’s Rise.
A waygate inside Renna’s Rise transports the player to Ainsel River Main. The player then finds the Miniature Ranni Doll and speaks to it at a Site of Grace until it responds.
From this point, the quest continues through Nokstella, the Baleful Shadows, the Discarded Palace Key, Raya Lucaria Grand Library, the Lake of Rot and Astel.
The relationship between Ranni’s Rise and Renna’s Rise is therefore sequential rather than hierarchical. Renna’s Rise is not a subarea of Ranni’s Rise, but its access is unlocked by progress made through Ranni’s tower.
Stage 5: Complete the quest
The cathedral and Moonlight Altar are not part of Ranni’s Rise, but they complete the quest that begins there.
---
Ranni’s Rise is a state-based location. Its characters and available interactions depend on what the player has already done.
The later route is
- 01Follow the Miniature Ranni Doll’s instructions.
- 02Defeat the Baleful Shadow in the underground route.
- 03Receive the Discarded Palace Key.
- 04Open the chest near Rennala in Raya Lucaria Grand Library.
- 05Obtain the Dark Moon Ring.
- 06Cross the Lake of Rot.
- 07Reach the coffin route.
- 08Defeat Astel, Naturalborn of the Void.
- 09Take the lift to Moonlight Altar.
- 10Enter Cathedral of Manus Celes.
- 11Descend through the hole in the floor.
- 12Use the Dark Moon Ring on Ranni.
- 13Collect the Dark Moon Greatsword.
Before meeting Ranni
The tower can be entered after reaching the Three Sisters, but the full party and quest dialogue are not yet active. The player should speak to Ranni rather than assuming the tower contains no content because it has little loot.
After entering Ranni’s service
Blaidd, Iji and Seluvis become relevant to the quest sequence. Their locations are distributed across Liurnia and the wider map, so not all of them remain inside Ranni’s Rise.
After delivering the Fingerslayer Blade
Ranni leaves the tower and the quest’s focus shifts to Renna’s Rise and the underground regions. The Carian Inverted Statue becomes available at this point.
After completing the quest
Returning to Ranni’s Rise produces additional late-game content involving Blaidd. Iji’s subsequent dialogue also acts as an epilogue to the storyline.
Because these scenes are tied to quest progression, it is sensible to revisit the tower after:
The exact availability of some conversations can depend on the order in which the player meets associated characters and completes their quests. If a dialogue stage does not appear, rest at the Site of Grace and speak to each available character again before moving on.
Interaction with other quests
Ranni’s quest intersects with several other character stories, especially:
The Black Knifeprint investigation involving Rogier and Fia points towards the Black Knife Catacombs and the events surrounding the Night of the Black Knives. The catacombs are in eastern Liurnia and are not part of Ranni’s Rise. They should not be included in the tower’s location directory simply because they provide related lore or quest context.
---
For a first base-game playthrough, the following route keeps the area organised and reduces backtracking:
---
Interaction with other quests
Interaction with other quests: steps
- 01Clear Caria Manor and defeat Royal Knight Loretta.
- 02Enter the Three Sisters and activate the Ranni’s Rise grace.
- 03Make a full circuit of the plateau, identifying Renna’s Rise and Seluvis’s Rise.
- 04Fight or bypass the first Glintstone Dragon Adula encounter.
- 05Enter Ranni’s Rise and speak to Ranni.
- 06Speak with Blaidd and the other associated characters below.
- 07Explore the rest of Liurnia and complete any desired Rogier, Fia, Seluvis or Iji dialogue.
- 08Defeat Radahn.
- 09Retrieve the Fingerslayer Blade from Nokron.
- 10Return to Ranni’s Rise and claim the Carian Inverted Statue.
- 11Move to Renna’s Rise for the next part of the quest.
- 12Return to Ranni’s Rise only after the later quest milestones and after the final battle if you want to see the location’s closing state.
End of quest
---
Ranni’s Rise is a physical expression of Ranni’s break with the Greater Will and the Golden Order. It is a Carian tower occupied by a figure who has rejected the role expected of her as an Empyrean. The tower’s isolation behind Caria Manor suits Ranni’s position: she is still connected to the Carian royal house, but operates apart from the established powers of the Lands Between.
The group gathered around her also explains the location’s narrative importance:
The tower is therefore less a treasure location than a campaign headquarters. It begins as a quiet meeting place, becomes the handover point for the Fingerslayer Blade and later serves as the setting for the consequences of Ranni’s choices.
---
The following entries are the named locations, characters, enemies and key items directly verified as part of Ranni’s Rise or its immediate Three Sisters context. Related places are listed separately to avoid expanding the boundary without evidence.
