About this guide
Scope: Base game Elden Ring. This guide uses East Limgrave as the eastern and south-eastern portion of the Limgrave overworld, including Mistwood, the Fort Haight area, the Third Church of Marika area, Summonwater’s eastern approaches and the Siofra River Well entrance. It does not treat Caelid, Weeping Peninsula, Stormhill, Stormveil Castle or the underground Siofra River as part of East Limgrave itself, although it explains their connections. Spoilers: This guide contains location, quest, boss and progression spoilers.
Overview
East Limgrave is more than the woodland around Mistwood. It is a broad transition zone between Limgrave’s safer western plains, the dangerous red lands of Caelid and the subterranean Siofra River. The area contains one of the game’s most important early quest clusters, a major underground entrance, a Great Rune-related route, several early Evergaol and field-boss encounters, and the opening stages of Blaidd, Kenneth Haight, Ranni and Fia-associated storylines.
The region initially appears to be a quiet forest and a few ruined roads. In practice, it is one of the base game’s most interconnected early areas. A player can use it to obtain a powerful Flask upgrade, begin the route towards Nokron, collect half of the Dectus Medallion, meet several major characters, find an early staff and sorcery vendor, and open routes towards both Caelid and Siofra.
Named East Limgrave overworld locations
Some maps and guides draw the border differently around Waypoint Ruins, Summonwater Village and the north-western roads. Those locations are included here when they form part of the eastern exploration route, but they should not be confused with Mistwood proper.
---
East Limgrave has three contrasting landscapes.
The western approach is open and navigable, with roads, low ruins and scattered camps. The central area becomes more heavily wooded around Mistwood. Visibility is reduced by trees, mist and uneven ground, while bears and demi-humans make careless mounted travel dangerous. The southern and eastern edges become more broken, with cliffs, ravines and roads leading towards Caelid.
The region’s most important landmark is the Minor Erdtree. Like other Minor Erdtrees, it marks an open-world combat arena and contains Crystal Tears for the Flask of Wondrous Physick. The Erdtree Avatar is optional, but defeating it is a useful early goal for players who want to improve their flask mixture.
The Third Church of Marika is the area’s main early utility landmark. It contains the Flask of Wondrous Physick and a Sacred Tear, and it provides a convenient Site of Grace. A concealed teleporter nearby can transport the player to northern Caelid, beside the Bestial Sanctum. This is a shortcut, not evidence that the Bestial Sanctum belongs to East Limgrave.
The Siofra River Well is visually conspicuous because of its large circular lift structure. It leads down into a separate underground map. The lower chamber contains ancient architecture, spectral enemies and the route towards Hallowhorn Grounds. The Siofra River itself is associated with ancient civilisations, the Ancestral Followers and later Nokron-related events.

First visit route
For a new character, the most useful route is:
This order gives the player the region’s key facilities before committing to its more dangerous encounters. The official-style walkthrough route similarly places Kenneth Haight, Fort Haight, Mistwood and the Siofra route in a connected sequence.
First visit route: steps
- 01Travel from the central Limgrave roads towards the Third Church of Marika.
- 02Collect the Flask of Wondrous Physick and Sacred Tear.
- 03Follow the road south-east towards Mistwood.
- 04Activate Mistwood Outskirts.
- 05Visit Mistwood Ruins, but be prepared for the Runebear inside.
- 06Speak with Kenneth Haight on the ruined structure near the road.
- 07Continue south to Fort Haight West.
- 08Clear Fort Haight when prepared.
- 09Return to Kenneth.
- 10Visit the Minor Erdtree and defeat or bypass the Erdtree Avatar.
- 11Enter the Siofra River Well when you are ready for a separate underground area.
Alternative early route
If the player wants the Flask of Wondrous Physick first, ride directly to the Third Church of Marika. If the player wants early sorcery support, go to Waypoint Ruins and reach the cellar beneath it. If the player wants the Dectus Medallion half, proceed to Fort Haight.
The region can be explored on horseback, but the dense forest is often safer on foot. Torrent can outrun most enemies, but large bears and mounted enemies can punish careless turns.
Connections
---
Connections
| Destination | Connection |
|---|---|
| Central Limgrave | Roads west of Mistwood and the lake |
| Northern Limgrave | Roads towards Summonwater and the northern bridges |
| Caelid | Eastern road and the teleporter near the Third Church |
| Weeping Peninsula | Southern road towards the Bridge of Sacrifice |
| Siofra River | Lift inside Siofra River Well |
| Nokron | Crater near Fort Haight after defeating Radahn |
| Deep Siofra Well | Underground route from Siofra, requiring two Stonesword Keys |
Sites of Grace
The precise treatment of some peripheral Sites of Grace differs between map divisions. The important practical distinction is that the overworld sites belong to Limgrave, while the sites below the lift belong to Siofra River.
The most relevant Sites of Grace are
Flask of Wondrous Physick
The Flask of Wondrous Physick is found at the Third Church of Marika. It is filled using Crystal Tears, including those found near Minor Erdtrees. The flask can be configured at a Site of Grace and is particularly valuable for early builds because it can restore health, boost attributes or provide defensive and offensive effects depending on the Tears used.
Map fragment
Map: Limgrave, East is found beside the road in Mistwood, near the map pillar. It is north-east of Mistwood Ruins and near the Minor Erdtree route. The map fragment is a fixed pickup, not a random discovery.
Shops and services
Decorative or non-functional places
The region contains ruined structures, fort buildings, village remains and collapsed roadside buildings. A building’s appearance does not guarantee that it contains a merchant, usable crafting service or purchasable property. Fort Haight is a combat location and quest destination, not a player-owned stronghold.
---
Functional services
| Name | Details |
|---|---|
| Nomadic Merchant in eastern Limgrave | sells a selection of early supplies. The exact inventory should be checked directly because merchant inventories are distinct. |
| Sorceress Sellen | found beneath Waypoint Ruins. She provides sorcery-related services and becomes important to several questlines. |
| Church of Elleh services | technically in western Limgrave, not East Limgrave, but it remains the nearest early smithing and merchant facility for many players. |
| Sites of Grace | flask allocation, levelling once Melina has offered the ability, time adjustment and fast travel when permitted. |
Residents and ordinary NPCs
Kenneth Haight
Kenneth is found on a ruined structure east of the Artist’s Shack and north-west of Fort Haight. He claims to be the rightful ruler of Limgrave and asks the player to reclaim his fort from the forces occupying it. His quest is one of the clearest introductions to East Limgrave’s political condition.
After the fort is cleared, return to Kenneth to receive the Erdsteel Dagger and continue his dialogue. His story later intersects with Nepheli Loux and the post-Godrick state of Stormveil. Kenneth’s location and quest stages are documented as moving from the roadside ruin to Fort Haight and eventually to Stormveil’s throne area.
Blaidd the Half-Wolf
Blaidd can be heard howling from Mistwood Ruins. To begin his early interaction:
Blaidd’s Mistwood appearance is part of a larger storyline connected to Ranni, Seluvis, Nokron and Radahn. The Mistwood encounter is easy to overlook because Blaidd does not automatically approach the player.
Sorceress Sellen
Sellen is located in the cellar beneath Waypoint Ruins. She serves as an early sorcery teacher and merchant. Her role extends well beyond East Limgrave, but Waypoint Ruins is one of the earliest places where an intelligence-focused character can expand their spell selection.
D, Hunter of the Dead
D may be encountered near Summonwater Village during the Tibia Mariner-related sequence. His dialogue connects the village’s undead problem with the wider death-related storyline.
Nomadic Merchant
A Nomadic Merchant is found in the eastern Limgrave area, around the road between Mistwood landmarks and Fort Haight. His exact stock should be checked in-game. The existence of a merchant does not mean that every nearby ruined stall is a shop.
Other associated characters
The broader Limgrave NPC list includes these characters, but their exact locations must be kept separate rather than treating all Limgrave NPCs as East Limgrave residents.
Blaidd the Half-Wolf
- 01Hear the howl at Mistwood Ruins.
- 02Speak to Merchant Kalé at the Church of Elleh.
- 03Learn the Fingersnap gesture.
- 04Return to Mistwood Ruins and use Fingersnap.
- 05Speak to Blaidd.
- 06Follow the related route towards Forlorn Hound Evergaol if pursuing his early quest.
Factions and hostile groups
Fort Haight demonstrates that “security” in East Limgrave is fragmented. There is no stable regional guard force. Godrick’s soldiers, fort garrisons, demi-human occupants and undead groups each control isolated spaces, while the roads remain exposed.

East Limgrave overworld encounters
The following encounters are associated with the East Limgrave overworld or its immediate approach routes:
The Limgrave field-boss category includes Erdtree Avatar, Tibia Mariner, Night’s Cavalry and Deathbird among the region’s major optional encounters.
East Limgrave overworld encounters
| Encounter | Area | Notes |
|---|---|---|
| Erdtree Avatar | Minor Erdtree | Optional field boss; rewards Crystal Tears and runes |
| Tibia Mariner | Summonwater Village | Optional undead-related boss |
| Night’s Cavalry | Road encounter, at night | Mounted field boss; location is time-sensitive |
| Deathbird | Open overworld, at night | Appears only at night in a fixed encounter area |
| Runebear | Mistwood Ruins | Large hostile bear; not a conventional boss-bar encounter in the same way as the field bosses |
| Godrick Knight | Fort Haight | Fort commander; drops Ash of War: Bloody Slash |
| Lesser enemies | Roads and woods | Soldiers, demi-humans, wolves, bears, trolls and wildlife |
Connected dungeon bosses
Depending on how the regional boundary is drawn, the following are often grouped into broader Limgrave guides but should be treated as separate dungeon content:
The Siofra bosses are not East Limgrave overworld bosses. They belong to the underground region reached from East Limgrave.
Practical boss order
A reasonable order for a new player is:
The order is advisory rather than mandatory. Several fights can be skipped indefinitely.
---
Practical boss order: steps
- 01Mistwood wildlife and ordinary enemies
- 02Fort Haight’s soldiers and demi-humans
- 03Tibia Mariner
- 04Minor Erdtree and Erdtree Avatar
- 05Night’s Cavalry and Deathbird
- 06Siofra River’s early enemies
- 07Ancestor Spirit
- 08Nokron encounters after Radahn
Third Church of Marika
The church is one of the best first destinations in East Limgrave. Collect the Flask of Wondrous Physick and Sacred Tear, activate the Site of Grace and inspect the nearby area for the concealed route to Caelid.
The church also helps establish the religious landscape of Limgrave. Marika’s churches are practical exploration sites, but they also communicate the decline of the Golden Order’s ordinary institutions.
Mistwood Ruins
Mistwood Ruins contains the early Blaidd encounter and a dangerous Runebear. The ruins are not merely scenery. They are a quest trigger, a combat challenge and a lesson in the region’s stealth mechanics.
Do not rush into the centre without listening for the howl. If Blaidd is present, speak with Kalé first if you want to progress the intended early sequence.
Fort Haight
Fort Haight is a small occupied fort south of Mistwood. Its courtyard and upper levels contain demi-humans, soldiers and a Godrick-affiliated knight. The top of the fort contains part of the Dectus Medallion, making this one of the most useful early clearable locations in Limgrave.
Kenneth’s quest directs the player here, but the fort can be visited independently. The fort’s leader is the most dangerous ordinary combatant inside, and players can sprint past much of the garrison if they only want the key items.
Minor Erdtree
The Minor Erdtree is an optional combat arena. Its Erdtree Avatar uses large area attacks and can punish players who fight directly beneath it. Mounted combat is possible, but foot combat gives greater control in the uneven terrain.
After defeating the Avatar, search the arena for Crystal Tears. These rewards are fixed and are more important than the rune payout for most early characters.
Summonwater Village
Summonwater Village is a ruined settlement occupied by undead. The Tibia Mariner encounter is tied to the area, and D may appear in connection with it. The village is a useful early introduction to skeleton enemies, which must be struck again after being knocked down unless their reanimation source is interrupted.
Waypoint Ruins
Waypoint Ruins lies near the western edge of this guide’s East Limgrave route. Its cellar contains Mad Pumpkin Head and Sorceress Sellen. Defeating the boss opens access to Sellen’s chamber.
The location is particularly valuable for sorcery users, but the boss can be unpleasant for lightly armoured characters because of the enclosed room and Pumpkin Head’s resistance to ordinary head strikes.
---
Major fixed rewards
The Dectus Medallion is not necessary to reach Altus Plateau because other routes exist, but it is the most straightforward lift route once both halves are collected.
Major fixed rewards
| Item or reward | Location | Importance |
|---|---|---|
| Flask of Wondrous Physick | Third Church of Marika | Enables custom flask mixtures |
| Sacred Tear | Third Church of Marika | Improves flask restoration |
| Map: Limgrave, East | Mistwood roadside map pillar | Reveals the eastern map |
| Dectus Medallion, left half | Fort Haight | Used at the Grand Lift of Dectus |
| Ash of War: Bloody Slash | Fort Haight knight | Bleed-oriented weapon skill |
| Crystal Tears | Minor Erdtree | Flask mixture effects |
| Erdsteel Dagger | Kenneth Haight’s quest | Quest reward after reclaiming Fort Haight |
| Nomadic Warrior’s Cookbook | Fort Haight | Unlocks additional crafting recipes |
| Golden Seed | Kenneth-related reward | Increases flask charges |
Collectible categories
East Limgrave contains fixed pickups and repeatable materials, including:
Some materials respawn after resting, while boss rewards and chest contents are fixed. Enemy drops are random or chance-based and should not be presented as guaranteed regional rewards.
---
Kenneth Haight
His quest can remain available for a considerable time, but later world-state changes can move or alter NPCs. If you intend to complete it, speak to Kenneth after clearing the fort rather than leaving the area permanently.
Kenneth’s quest has a clear local sequence
- 01Find Kenneth on the ruined structure.
- 02Agree to reclaim Fort Haight.
- 03Defeat the fort’s commander.
- 04Return to Kenneth.
- 05Receive the Erdsteel Dagger.
- 06Speak to Kenneth at Fort Haight.
- 07Continue the wider quest through Nepheli and Stormveil.
Blaidd and Ranni
The Mistwood howl is an early doorway into Blaidd’s storyline. The early steps lead towards Darriwil’s Evergaol and eventually to Ranni’s wider quest. The important distinction is that East Limgrave contains only the opening portion. Blaidd’s complete story continues through Liurnia, Caelid, Nokron and later areas.
Radahn and the crater
Before Starscourge Radahn is defeated, the region near Fort Haight does not contain the large crater route into Nokron. After Radahn’s defeat, a star falls into Limgrave, creating a crater and opening access to the upper Siofra/Nokron route. This is one of the most important progression changes in the entire region.
The crater is not an alternative entrance to ordinary Siofra River. It leads towards Nokron, Eternal City, which is a separate upper section of the underground world.
Night-time encounters
Rest at a Site of Grace and select “Pass time” if an encounter is not present.

Second pass
---
The Runebear trap
Mistwood Ruins appears to be a small abandoned ruin, but the Runebear inside can kill an under-levelled character quickly. Use the surrounding walls, stealth and mounted movement rather than assuming that every ruin can be safely entered at walking speed.
The Caelid teleporter
The teleporter near the Third Church of Marika leads to the Bestial Sanctum area in northern Caelid. It is useful for reaching a distant part of the map early, but the enemies there are much stronger than East Limgrave’s ordinary opponents. Treat it as a travel shortcut, not a recommended combat route for a new character.
The Siofra lift
The lift is safe to activate, but the underground area is not a simple extension of the overworld. Its enemies, distances and boss routes are more demanding. Activate the first Site of Grace before exploring deeply and remember that the Siofra map fragment is found underground, near the Hallowhorn Grounds.
Fort Haight’s upper level
The fort’s commander uses a powerful bleed-oriented Ash of War. Avoid trading repeated close-range blows if your character has low vitality. Ranged attacks, jumping attacks and short punish windows are safer than standing directly in front of him.
---
East Limgrave presents Limgrave as a land whose old institutions have failed.
Fort Haight is held by hostile forces, Kenneth claims that the proper rulership has been displaced, and Godrick’s authority is represented mostly by scattered soldiers and decaying garrisons. The ruined villages and neglected roads reinforce the idea that Limgrave is no longer a functioning kingdom.
Mistwood provides a different kind of historical clue. Its relationship with Blaidd and the underground Siofra route links the surface woodland to older civilisations beneath the Lands Between. Siofra is described as the grave of civilisations that flourished before the Erdtree, while the Ancestral Followers preserve a culture centred on nature, horns and the remains of ancient beasts.
The Third Church of Marika, Minor Erdtree and Siofra Well therefore form a useful thematic sequence:
---
Is East Limgrave a formal game region?
Not in the same way as Limgrave or Caelid. It is a practical map division used by guides and players. The game’s formal overworld region is Limgrave, which includes several distinct areas and dungeon groups.
Is Siofra River part of East Limgrave?
No. The entrance is in East Limgrave, but Siofra River is a separate underground region with its own map and Sites of Grace.
Is Fort Haight in Caelid?
No. Fort Haight is in Limgrave. It is close to the Caelid direction and its eastern setting can make the boundary seem ambiguous.
Can I reach Nokron immediately?
No. The crater route opens after Starscourge Radahn is defeated. Before then, use the Siofra River Well to access the lower underground region.
Do I need to clear Fort Haight to progress?
No. It is optional, but it is highly worthwhile because of Kenneth’s quest, the Dectus Medallion half and the Ash of War.
What level should I be for East Limgrave?
There is no fixed requirement. Around level 15–35 is a comfortable range for the overworld, but experienced players can clear it earlier and new players may reasonably return later. The Siofra River and post-Radahn Nokron routes are separate difficulty steps.
Can I miss Blaidd?
The Mistwood meeting is easy to overlook, but the wider quest can often be continued through later encounters. If you want the intended early sequence, listen for the howl, speak with Kalé and use Fingersnap at the ruins.
