Note
Base game guide. This page covers the Forlorn Hound Evergaol itself and its immediate connections in southern Limgrave. It does not fold in the wider Limgrave region, the Weeping Peninsula, Mistwood Ruins, or the separate Lakeside Crystal Cave.
Overview
Forlorn Hound Evergaol is an optional Evergaol in southern Limgrave, close to the boundary between the main Limgrave landmass and the route towards the Weeping Peninsula. Its entire active content is concentrated around a single blue stone prison platform. When activated, the platform transports the player into an isolated arena where Bloodhound Knight Darriwil is fought as a solo boss encounter.
The Evergaol is easy to overlook because it has no dungeon entrance, Site of Grace, conventional rooms or ordinary enemies outside the boss encounter. Its importance comes from three things: Darriwil’s early-game difficulty, the unique Bloodhound’s Fang reward, and its connection to Blaidd the Half-Wolf’s early quest dialogue.
Scope and boundaries
Forlorn Hound Evergaol is a single-point location, rather than a broad subregion. The named location refers primarily to the circular stone platform in the overworld and the enclosed arena entered from it. The surrounding grassland, roads and nearby ruins belong to southern Limgrave and should not be treated as internal parts of the Evergaol.
The following places are nearby or connected, but separate:
The presence of another Bloodhound Knight in Lakeside Crystal Cave does not make that cave a subarea of Forlorn Hound Evergaol. The two encounters are separate map locations with separate rewards.
Location and access
The Evergaol lies in southern Limgrave on elevated ground away from the main road. It is commonly approached from Agheel Lake South or from the road running towards the Bridge of Sacrifice. Guides generally place it south of the central Limgrave road and north-west of the bridge route.
On the world map, the Evergaol is represented by a distinctive circular blue marker. Once found, approach the centre of the stone platform and interact with it. The player is then taken into the isolated arena. Interacting with the same central point after victory allows the player to leave.
Recommended approach
The fight can be attempted very early, but the boss is deliberately aggressive and can punish an underprepared character. Some guides suggest roughly level 15 as an early recommendation, although weapon upgrades, player familiarity and build choice matter more than level alone.
Recommended approach
- 01Travel to Agheel Lake South if it is available.
- 02Ride south or south-west across the open ground, keeping clear of unnecessary encounters.
- 03Look for the circular blue Evergaol platform on raised terrain.
- 04Activate the platform.
- 05Before entering, check that your weapon is upgraded as far as your current resources allow and that you have enough healing charges.
- 06Enter the arena and defeat Darriwil.
- 07Collect the reward and use the central exit point to return to Limgrave.

Reward
There are no verified shops, businesses, ordinary residents, decorative storefronts, roads within the Evergaol, or separate internal buildings. The surrounding roads and ruins are part of Limgrave, not internal components of the Evergaol.

The Evergaol platform
The overworld platform is a circular stone structure marked by a blue, shimmering surface. It functions as both entrance and exit. Unlike a cave or catacomb entrance, it does not lead to a conventional dungeon layout. There are no branching corridors, treasure rooms or alternate routes.
The platform itself is also a useful landmark when travelling through the southern Limgrave uplands. It is visually distinct from ordinary ruins and does not require a key or consumable to activate.
This makes the location structurally simple
- 01Find the platform.
- 02Activate it.
- 03Fight the boss.
- 04Leave through the central point.
Boss: Bloodhound Knight Darriwil
Bloodhound Knight Darriwil is the sole boss of Forlorn Hound Evergaol. He uses a curved greatsword and fights with rapid movement, delayed attacks, lunges and slashing combinations. His movement is designed to make early dodges unreliable. A delayed attack or dragging slash can catch a player who rolls as soon as Darriwil begins moving.
The arena is open and contains no environmental hazards or interactive objects. Darriwil can disappear briefly during certain movements and re-enter with a fast attack, so maintaining distance is not always safe. A cautious fight should focus on recognising the end of his attack strings rather than trying to interrupt every approach.
Blaidd’s summon
Blaidd can be summoned inside the Evergaol if the player has completed the relevant early step involving him at Mistwood Ruins. The usual sequence is:
The sign is a special NPC interaction, not a normal Spirit Ash summon. Blaidd can draw attention and create openings, but Darriwil remains dangerous if the player assumes the NPC will defeat him without support.
Blaidd’s summon
- 01Hear the wolf howl at Mistwood Ruins.
- 02Speak to Merchant Kalé at the Church of Elleh.
- 03Obtain the Finger Snap gesture.
- 04Return to Mistwood Ruins and use the gesture when Blaidd is present.
- 05Speak with Blaidd and learn that he is searching for Darriwil.
- 06Enter Forlorn Hound Evergaol and look for Blaidd’s summon sign.
Walkthrough
Before entering
Prepare in the overworld because there is no internal Site of Grace.
Inside the arena
- 01Activate the central Evergaol point.
- 02Move immediately after entering so that Darriwil’s opening movement does not catch you standing still.
- 03Watch his first attack rather than attacking immediately.
- 04Circle at a comfortable distance and wait for a completed sequence.
- 05Punish short openings with one or two attacks.
- 06Retreat after your attack rather than attempting a long chain.
- 07When Darriwil is defeated, collect Bloodhound’s Fang and the rune reward.
- 08Return to the central point to leave the arena.
Rewards
Bloodhound’s Fang
Bloodhound’s Fang is a unique curved greatsword dropped by Darriwil. It is the defining reward of the Evergaol and one of the strongest reasons to visit the location early. Its requirements favour Strength and Dexterity, and its weapon skill gives it a mobile, high-impact attack pattern. The weapon also inflicts blood loss.
The weapon is especially valuable because it can be obtained before entering a major legacy dungeon. It remains useful well beyond the early game if the player continues investing in the attributes and upgrade materials it requires.
Runes
Darriwil also grants a rune reward. Published guides do not agree consistently on the exact figure, with some listing 1,400 and others listing 1,900. The reward can also be affected by game cycle or source conventions. For that reason, the important fixed reward for route planning is Bloodhound’s Fang rather than a single universally reported rune number.
Blaidd and progression
Forlorn Hound Evergaol forms an early link in Blaidd’s wider character and quest material. Blaidd identifies Darriwil as a target, and defeating the boss can lead to additional dialogue depending on the order in which the player handles the encounter and speaks to him.
Later progression can change where Blaidd is found and what dialogue is available. In particular, Blaidd’s appearances connected with Ranni’s storyline are separate progression states and should not be confused with the initial Darriwil encounter. The Evergaol itself remains a boss location, but the NPC presence associated with it is not necessarily identical throughout the whole game.
Progression checklist
This is optional content. Defeating Darriwil does not unlock the region, open a new dungeon or act as a required gate for Stormveil Castle.
Hazards and secrets
The main hazard is the boss’s attack timing rather than environmental danger. There are no traps, poison pools, hidden walls, side rooms or separate collectible routes within the Evergaol arena.
The most easily missed element is Blaidd’s summon. It depends on the prior Mistwood interaction, so entering the Evergaol without first progressing that conversation may leave the summon sign unavailable. This is not a missing item or random encounter. It is a progression-dependent NPC assist.
A second common mistake is confusing the Evergaol with other Bloodhound Knight locations. Lakeside Crystal Cave contains a different Bloodhound Knight and a different reward, the Cerulean Amber Medallion. That encounter is not part of Forlorn Hound Evergaol.
Route from central Limgrave
- 01Start at the Church of Elleh or another central Limgrave Site of Grace.
- 02Travel towards the Limgrave roads and then south-east towards the Agheel Lake area.
- 03Activate Agheel Lake South if it is not already available.
- 04Ride towards the elevated ground where the Evergaol platform stands.
- 05Complete the encounter before continuing towards the Bridge of Sacrifice.
Route as part of Blaidd’s early storyline
- 01Visit Mistwood Ruins and investigate the howl.
- 02Speak with Merchant Kalé at the Church of Elleh.
- 03Return to Mistwood Ruins after learning Finger Snap.
- 04Speak to Blaidd.
- 05Ride to Forlorn Hound Evergaol.
- 06Use Blaidd’s summon sign if present.
- 07Defeat Darriwil and collect Bloodhound’s Fang.
- 08Continue south towards the Weeping Peninsula or return north to continue Limgrave exploration.
