Note
Base-game guide. This page covers the surface ruins themselves. Yelough Anix Tunnel, the mine directly beneath or just south of the settlement, is a separate dungeon and is not included in the ruins’ item, enemy or boss lists. The two locations are closely connected geographically, but they have different boundaries, rewards and progression.
Overview
Yelough Anix Ruins is a small but unusually hostile landmark in the western Consecrated Snowfield, an endgame subregion of the Mountaintops of the Giants. The settlement is a half-buried ruin occupied by people and creatures consumed by the Flame of Frenzy. Its main reward is Unendurable Frenzy, a powerful Frenzied Flame incantation hidden in an underground treasure room.
The ruins are easy to mistake for a simple collection of broken walls. Their important content is concentrated in three features:
The area has no Site of Grace, NPC quest step, merchant or named boss of its own. It is primarily an exploration stop for players interested in Frenzied Flame incantations, late-game crafting materials and the environmental story of madness in the Snowfield.
Introduction
- 01A surface settlement filled with Frenzied commoners, trolls and rats.
- 02A hidden basement or treasure room containing Unendurable Frenzy.
- 03A nearby entrance to Yelough Anix Tunnel, a separate mine ending in Astel, Stars of Darkness.

Reaching the Consecrated Snowfield
The standard route requires the Haligtree Secret Medallion:
The ruins cannot normally be reached from the ordinary Mountaintops route without first opening this concealed section of the map. The location is therefore an optional late-game destination rather than part of the required route to the Fire Giant.
Reaching the Consecrated Snowfield: steps
- 01Obtain the right half from Albus in the Village of the Albinaurics.
- 02Obtain the left half in Castle Sol after progressing through the northern Mountaintops.
- 03Use the medallion at the Grand Lift of Rold.
- 04Choose the option to hoist the secret medallion.
- 05Travel through the Hidden Path to the Consecrated Snowfield.
Route from Inner Consecrated Snowfield
The snowfield’s poor visibility can make the ruins difficult to spot. The site is easier to find by using the Inner Consecrated Snowfield grace as a fixed starting point and maintaining a westward heading.
From Inner Consecrated Snowfield
- 01Mount Torrent and travel west.
- 02Continue through the sparse forest of pale trees.
- 03Watch for the settlement’s broken walls and the large trolls.
- 04Enter from the southern or eastern side rather than riding directly into the central structures.
- 05Circle the ruins first to identify the enemies and exposed pickups.
- 06Search the central and western buildings for the concealed descent to the treasure room.
Route from Yelough Anix Tunnel
If you have already found Yelough Anix Tunnel, the ruins are on the surface above or near its entrance. Do not assume that clearing the tunnel completes the ruins. The two locations retain separate loot tables and separate enemy encounters.
---
The ruins are a compact settlement of roofless or partially buried stone buildings. Snow has filled much of the interior space, and the remaining inhabitants occupy the open lanes between the walls. The layout is not a conventional dungeon with a linear doorway and a fog gate. Instead, the player explores a loose cluster of ruined structures while avoiding large enemies in exposed areas.
The most important architectural feature is the concealed underground room. Its access point is easy to miss because the approach is obstructed or visually disguised by the surrounding broken masonry. Guides variously describe the entrance as a stairway below the central ruins, a hidden cellar and a room reached through a broken structure. These descriptions refer to the same treasure area.
The central ruins
The central part of the settlement contains the most dangerous concentration of enemies, including trolls and Frenzied commoners. It also provides the visual landmark used to locate the hidden cellar.
This area is best explored from horseback. Torrent allows you to cross the open ground quickly, disengage from madness attacks and reposition around the trolls.
The western or rear structure
The hidden entrance is associated with a ruined building on the western side of the settlement or behind the central structure, depending on the direction from which the player approaches. The exact visual approach can be confusing because the stairway is not presented as an obvious entrance.
Some guides report using a troll to break a blocking wall, while others describe reaching the opening with Torrent. The reliable point is that the room is accessible from the ruins and does not require a Stonesword Key.
---
The settlement’s inhabitants are not neutral villagers. They are afflicted by the Flame of Frenzy and attack on sight. The area’s enemy composition supports the impression that the ruin was not merely abandoned, but overtaken by madness.
Frenzied Commoners
Frenzied Commoners occupy the ruined buildings and open ground. They are individually weak compared with the trolls, but their numbers make them dangerous when they are allowed to surround the player or build up madness while the player is fighting something larger.
Their attacks and behaviour are consistent with the wider Frenzied Flame theme: they use close-range attacks and madness-inducing abilities rather than functioning as ordinary passive villagers.
Frenzied Trolls
The trolls are the most conspicuous threats on the surface. They have much greater reach and durability than the commoners, and their attacks can punish players who become trapped between walls.
It is often better to avoid fighting every troll immediately. Ride around the outside of the settlement, collect the accessible loot and identify the cellar entrance first. If you do fight them, use the open snow around the ruins rather than the cramped gaps between buildings.
Trolls can also be useful indirectly. Some guides report luring one towards a damaged or obstructed wall to clear access to the underground room. This is an environmental workaround rather than a required mechanic, so the player should first try the surrounding route and Torrent’s jump.
Frenzied Rats and Giant Rat
Rats occupy the lower and enclosed parts of the ruins. They are easy to overlook while concentrating on the trolls, but they can interrupt looting and add further madness pressure.
The larger rat should be treated as a distinct enemy type rather than merged into the ordinary rat encounters.
Enemy directory
Surface enemies
The available location references agree on the principal enemy types, although published guides do not consistently provide an authoritative encounter-by-encounter count. This guide therefore avoids presenting an exact total as definitive.
---
Madness
Madness is the defining hazard of Yelough Anix Ruins. Frenzy attacks fill the player’s madness meter, and a full meter causes a damaging burst that can kill an already wounded character.
Do not treat the ruins as a safe item-collection stop. A player who dismounts in the middle of the settlement can quickly be attacked from several directions.
Visibility and navigation
The snowy landscape makes it easy to ride past the ruins. Once inside, the broken buildings also make the cellar entrance hard to identify. Mark the location on the map if you intend to return, especially if you plan to clear Yelough Anix Tunnel later.
Mounted combat
The underground treasure room itself is a confined area, so expect to fight or loot on foot after reaching it.

Main loot directory
The first four are the notable fixed rewards commonly listed for the ruins. Eye of Yelough and Yellow Ember are crafting materials associated with the Frenzied settlement and its surroundings. Published databases differ in how they classify individual material pickups, so the safest distinction is between the fixed named rewards and the harvestable or scattered crafting materials.
Unendurable Frenzy
Unendurable Frenzy is the principal reward. It is found in a chest inside the hidden underground treasure room beneath the ruins. The incantation requires 31 Faith and produces a sustained burst of the yellow Flame of Frenzy from the caster’s eyes. It can be held to continue the attack and can be used while moving.
Acquisition steps
The spell is not obtained from a boss, NPC or quest. It is a fixed chest reward and remains available whenever the location is visited.
Acquisition steps
- 01Enter Yelough Anix Ruins from the Snowfield.
- 02Avoid or defeat the first surface enemies.
- 03Move towards the central and western ruined buildings.
- 04Search for the concealed opening or stairway leading below the ruins.
- 05Use Torrent’s double jump if the entrance is just beyond a broken wall.
- 06If necessary, lure a troll towards the obstructing masonry.
- 07Descend into the underground room.
- 08Open the chest to obtain Unendurable Frenzy.
Golden Rune [13]
The Golden Rune [13] is a fixed pickup in the surface ruins. Its value is modest compared with the spell, but it is worth collecting during the first sweep because returning through the enemy-filled settlement adds unnecessary risk.
Stonesword Key
The Stonesword Key is another surface collectible. It is not the key used to open the Unendurable Frenzy room. The hidden cellar is reached through exploration and positioning, not by inserting a Stonesword Key into an Imp Statue.
Rimed Rowa
Rimed Rowa grows in the snowy environment around the ruins and is also listed among the location’s loot. It is a crafting material rather than a unique reward.
Eye of Yelough and Yellow Ember
These materials reinforce the area’s connection to Frenzy. Eye of Yelough is associated with lands afflicted by the Flame of Frenzy, while Yellow Ember is another regional crafting material found in the Snowfield’s Frenzied areas. Their presence is environmental and crafting-related rather than part of a dedicated quest.

Safe collection route
- 01Approach from Inner Consecrated Snowfield. Travel west on Torrent and avoid stopping in the open until the ruins are visible.
Safe collection route
- 01Circle the outer edge. Identify the trolls before entering the central buildings. Pick up any exposed materials from the perimeter.
Safe collection route
- 01Remove isolated commoners first. They are easier to defeat away from the trolls and reduce the chance of being interrupted while searching.
Safe collection route
- 01Collect the Golden Rune [13] and Stonesword Key. Take these during the first circuit if the route is clear.
Safe collection route
- 01Locate the hidden cellar. Search the central and western ruined buildings. The entrance may appear as a stairway or opening below the broken walls rather than a normal door.
Safe collection route
- 01Use Torrent to reach the opening. Try a double jump before attempting to manipulate the environment. If the wall remains inaccessible, lure a nearby troll towards it.
Safe collection route
- 01Enter the underground room. Be prepared for rats or close-range attacks in the confined space.
Safe collection route
- 01Open the chest. Take Unendurable Frenzy.
Safe collection route
- 01Leave before overextending. If the surface trolls are still alive, mount Torrent immediately and ride clear of the settlement.
Safe collection route
- 01Decide whether to continue to Yelough Anix Tunnel. Treat the tunnel as a separate optional dungeon with its own Site of Grace and boss.
Combat route
Players who want to clear the ruins rather than loot them quickly should use this order:
This avoids fighting a troll while several commoners are applying madness from different angles.
---
Combat route: steps
- 01Kill isolated commoners around the outside.
- 02Remove rats from enclosed structures.
- 03Fight each troll separately in open snow.
- 04Search the central buildings after the major enemies are gone.
- 05Enter the cellar and collect the spell.
- 06Return to the surface and check the perimeter for materials.
Inner Consecrated Snowfield
This is the most useful starting point for reaching the ruins. The route is a short westward ride through pale trees and snow.
Yelough Anix Tunnel
The tunnel is the most important neighbouring location. It is a separate mine beneath or south of the ruins, with its own Site of Grace and a final encounter against Astel, Stars of Darkness. Its loot includes high-level Smithing Stones, Somber Smithing Stones, a Rune Arc, Hero’s Rune [5], Ancient Dragon Smithing Stone and Meteorite of Astel, but none of these rewards belong to the surface ruins.
Apostate Derelict
The Apostate Derelict lies in the northern part of the Consecrated Snowfield and is associated with Latenna’s quest. It is not connected to the ruins’ Frenzied inhabitants or reward structure.
Ordina, Liturgical Town
Ordina is another major optional Snowfield landmark, but it has a different puzzle, progression gate and route to the Haligtree. It is not a subarea of Yelough Anix Ruins.
Mohgwyn Palace waygate
A western waygate in the Consecrated Snowfield leads to Mohgwyn Palace. It is a separate traversal connection and should not be confused with the entrance to Yelough Anix Tunnel.
---
The ruins are one of the clearest surface demonstrations of the Flame of Frenzy’s effects outside the Frenzied Flame Village and the Subterranean Shunning-Grounds. The area’s inhabitants have not simply disappeared. They remain in the settlement as hostile, madness-afflicted figures, while the yellow-themed crafting materials and the Unendurable Frenzy incantation reinforce the same visual and mechanical language.
The name Yelough Anix also appears in the name of the nearby tunnel and in Eye of Yelough, suggesting that the ruin, mine and regional plant belong to a shared local identity. The game does not provide a confirmed biography of a person named Yelough Anix, so claims that the name identifies a historical founder, saint or specific Frenzied Flame prophet should be treated as speculation rather than established lore.
The spell description is the strongest direct lore evidence in the location: Unendurable Frenzy is presented as the pain and unstoppable tears of those afflicted by the Flame of Frenzy. Its placement in a chest beneath a settlement full of Frenzied inhabitants makes the ruins a thematic counterpart to the more explicit Frenzied Flame locations elsewhere in the Lands Between.
---
No known quest-state transformation
Yelough Anix Ruins does not have a documented NPC quest phase, invasion trigger, boss rematch state or ending-dependent version in the base game. The enemies and fixed rewards are available as part of ordinary exploration.
No known missable reward trigger
Unendurable Frenzy, the Golden Rune [13] and the Stonesword Key are not reported as disappearing because of a main-story progression choice. The main practical risk is simply overlooking the underground room.
Separate tunnel progression
Killing Astel, Stars of Darkness in Yelough Anix Tunnel does not replace the surface ruins’ content. Likewise, collecting Unendurable Frenzy does not clear or complete the tunnel. Keep the two checklists separate.
---
Do not count these as ruins completion
Those belong to Yelough Anix Tunnel, not the surface landmark.
---
Is Yelough Anix Ruins the same place as Yelough Anix Tunnel?
No. The tunnel is a separate underground dungeon near the ruins. It has its own Site of Grace, enemies, materials and Astel boss encounter.
Is there a boss in Yelough Anix Ruins?
No boss is assigned to the surface ruins. The major boss associated with the name, Astel, Stars of Darkness, is at the end of Yelough Anix Tunnel.
Where is Unendurable Frenzy?
It is in a chest inside a hidden underground treasure room beneath the ruins. Search the central and western structures, then use the broken masonry and Torrent’s double jump to reach the entrance.
Do I need a Stonesword Key to enter the spell room?
No. The Stonesword Key is a separate collectible. The route to Unendurable Frenzy is concealed by the ruined architecture and may require careful positioning or a troll’s attack to clear an obstruction.
What is the easiest way to survive the ruins?
Ride Torrent, circle the settlement, kill isolated commoners first and avoid fighting trolls in narrow gaps. Carry madness resistance or Clarifying Boluses if you intend to clear every enemy.
Is Yelough Anix Ruins part of the Haligtree?
It is in the Consecrated Snowfield, the optional subregion that leads towards the Haligtree, but the ruins themselves are not part of Elphael or Miquella’s Haligtree.
